Heya! Just as a tip: the "liquid white" is actually a very thin mix of Titanium White and Linseed Oil. So you will mix a tiny bit of the linseed oil in with a tiny bit of the titanium white and apply it to the canvas AFTER you gesso the canvas. I had a Bob Ross birthday party and had to learn this the hard way too! Otherwise, y'all did great! Love the results

I think traditionally Bob uses Liquid White to prime his canvas which does not dry as fast as gesso. He would do 2 coats of a gray gesso, and then use the liquid white on top to make sure he got everything wet. That is why his canvas is always wet and blends so easily, but I still think yall did a really good job at creating your paintings!

that's correct, you actually can make it by thinning down titanium white with mineral spirits and linseed oil until it reaches the consistency of gravy.

He used pre double primed canvas. He mentions that at the beginning of every show. Another thing he does is focus on the painting instead of himself. You are a freak show. You probably can't help it, but at least quit going out of your way to display it.

You and your brother have such a great sibling dynamic! Did NOT expect his hair. I think your painting turned out great!! I loved the little rapids and extra bits of snow bank you added. I think it framed the scene really well, and the rapids give an extra little bit of visual interest. If you're at all interested in acrylic painting for landscapes (and other scenes), there's a YT channel I've been following for many years now (tho I haven't watched in a hot minute) called "Stay Creative Painting with Ryan O'Rourke." He's done tons of beautiful acrylic paintings on his channel, highly detailed, great instruction; I actually started following him for his 10-minute painting tutorials. You might learn how to hone your skills from him! Also, not bad try for your brother's painting! To me it looks like mountains peaking out of a heavy cloudbank, like when you're flying in an airplane and look out the window and all you see is clouds below you :)

Cool tip! Lmao. From someone with a BFA (I actually don't paint with oils due to health issues with my lungs but I did enjoy it when I chanced it for school). Oils and paint thinners come out with dishsoap or wood-floor-soap. So I used to wipe my brushes with a rag that had a little bit of soap on it when I needed a clean brush to do the next part. (Just adding this comment cause of what Executive Confuser said at 12:45.) Also make sure to get the soap out with the same rag or paper towel. Also your paints are different from Bob Ross' because he didn't have the thinners and minerals we do now. Our oils thin much easier due to just how long it's been since Bob painted for us. A tip for doing the trees and not getting as muddy. Try not to dab like you would with acrylics and use darker colours on wet paint than what Bob is using. That's also why you have a more pastel-based palette. I love both of your mountains. Oh god I turned into one of those: People who actually paint posters. It's been like 10 years since I used oil so I could be wrong with these things above. I just am an acrylic and gouache user so I adapted to oils for school. I so agree with the "After this I'll just go back to Warframe" comment about oil painting.

You've got a very cold, snowy landscape! I wanted some hot chocolate and a blanket just looking at it. I like the airbrushed pink on the water to reflect the sky, and the haze around the stars and moon. Your brother's painting reminds me of some photos I've seen of planes flying over foggy areas with a bit of landscape reaching up through the clouds.

I like both paintings, thought you guys did really good. I'm a Bob Ross certified instructor in Florida, what they all a CRI. One thing I recommend is bigger bristle brushes. Bob Ross brushes are super thick and pick up a good amount of paint to evenly distribute and blend really good. Another thing is he uses liquid white to prime the canvas, liquid white is an oil-based primer that helps blend the other oil colors, hence why it's called wet on wet. Also, if that air brushing is water based, eventually it will crack and fall off the painting because oil based can go on top of dry water based, but not the other way around. Again, I think the paintings came out great.

"You sweet summer child" The wet on wet tecnique Bob uses has a dried gesso base, like most canvas, and liquid white lightly brushed on the canvas; to test, after applying the liquid white touch the canvas and your finger print should be covered in the paint, not your whole finger tip. Touch a finger to four different sections of the canvas to make sure it is all covered properly. It won't take much. If you use too much it'll blend too much or run. The liquid white will stay wet the whole painting time. You can buy liquid clear and add an oil paint to it to color it, 1:! ratio. I think the black canvas, or black and white, he uses he usually puts down liquid clear. However I really like your painting either way! It's very detailed, like you always do, and I love it!

I haven't personally tried oil paints (because I find them intimidating but also painting is messy), but I do think adding a slow drying medium or fluid medium to your acrylics to make them easier to use the wet on wet technique is a good alternative if you don't end up liking oils that much! I was going to say you should check out my favorite oil painter Kelsey Beckett for painting portraits, but she doesn't have many videos up so I'm not sure how much help that would be... Yet again the end product has blown me away though! Adding the rapids was such a nice touch 💛
