I said in Part 2 I wasn't going to deep dive parts cleaning, but I'm making an exception for the bobbin case (and I'll also do the bracket) as I recently deep dove on the 15 class case for Pat's Singer 237.

Talk about “micromanaging”! 😂. Love the continual skill building! In lieu of mechanically cleaning, I use acetone then Evaporust. However, the polishing compound was eye-opening for me. Eye-opening with eye protection. 😊 And, thank you Bob for differentiating the two screws for us!

I find evaporust doesn't do much for schmoo. It workls great for rust, but schmoo? Not so much...

@@BobFowlerWorkshop I totally agree! I use acetone to rid the schmoo BEFORE Evaporust so that Evaporust will reach all surfaces. But, your polishing is out of this world! More thorough than joint implants. 😂. Clearly, it contributes to effortlessly gliding parts. I’m sold!

it's interesting how a little bit of grime build up under the sping near the screw can keep you from being able to get enough tension.
@BobFowlerWorkshop
@BobFowlerWorkshop 10 ай бұрын
It's not just enough tension, it's consistent tension as well. If you look at the bobbin case cleaning I did for Pat's 237, in her case, the tension was so wonky, it went from to light to too high, all in the same pull!
@boephco

@BobFowlerWorkshop noticed that in the past, too. No wonder so many people struggle with tension.

From yuck to new. It's really worth getting the white compound for this rather than sticking to the red that comes with the kits. It makes it a much better finish, I'm very happy to have found it thanks to you Bob. Just idly wondered, are you cleaning the screws too? They'd be a right sod to do.

I touch up those screws once they're in place. Not going to try to do that off the case!

Do you still use the scotch-brite-type brushes for cleaning? Some people will dismiss the importance of cleaning and polishing thread paths, while at the same time complaining about not being able to "solve" their thread tension and breakage problems.
@BobFowlerWorkshop

Yes, but mostly for parts that are covered with heavy crud that don't necessarily get polished.

You've probably said before, but what is the white pound you're using? Name or source. Thank you

Bob, would you ever put all those nasty parts in the ultrasonic cleaner? Do you have to polish them after their bath?
@BobFowlerWorkshop
@BobFowlerWorkshop 2 ай бұрын
I do have a couple of ultrasonic cleaners, and yes, I sometimes give them that treatment. The shiny parts still need to be polished afterwards though...
