I was supposed to go home for Christmas to my family the day of the gig so I didn’t originally buy a ticket, but my mum unexpectedly died 2 weeks before the show of cancer. My wife bought me a resale ticket short notice and I went on my own and it was the most healing thing I could have ever done. Vessels pain in a time of adversity was my pain, and the fans singing to support him was a mirror off all those who have supported me in my time of need.

In a world where the media is filled with those few people who choose to take offence at anything they perceive as negative, it is heart-warming to hear that several thousand people, when placed in just such a position, decided to take the positive approach and do whatever they could to make the best of the situation!

Exactly! A friend of mine told me about the Wembley show, and I wasn't at all surprised. Of course, that didn't stop me from tearing up a little bit when I watched footage of the show. Sleep Token has managed to seamlessly blend multiple genres in a way that speaks to a broad group of people. While I joked with the friend who introduced me to them that he was in a cult, it took me about 2 songs to find myself also in that cult. The music they create is genius. It provides the ear with a multitude of frequencies to explore, and that's before the incredible lyrics can even be heard and interpreted. They speak to casual listeners, people with music theory backgrounds, vocalists, poets, sound engineering nerds. They are exactly what music has needed for decades, a fresh new expression that surprises the ear and pulls the heart into itself. When I say worship, I mean I see the spirit of the bard in this group. And I am in awe.

A fair few of us seem to have come back from the gigs in Germany with bad throats and colds. Maybe Vessel picked the same thing up. I noticed he took a drink straight after Chokehold on Saturday which I hadn’t seen him do so soon before and fleetingly thought that was different. It was still phenomenal and although my heart breaks for his bad luck after waiting so long for this date, I’m glad I was there to be part of what you called the uniqueness of that event Steve.

I only started listening to Sleep Token since TMBTE came out but I've listened so much since then that I ended up in the top 1% of listeners on my Spotify wrapped. 😂 I'm actually listening to the older songs more now. There's not a song I don't like. ANYWAY....I watched the Wembley concert online and I know it's not the same but what's really different about this group is that the fans really care about Vessel as a human being. No one got mad or left because they wanted to be there to love and support him...and the rest of the band too, of coarse. That's what sucked me in as well. Vessel may not speak, but his non-verbal language to his fans is loud and clear....and the fact that he's been through hell in his life is obvious in his lyrics and the emotion in his singing. I am sure Vessel felt all the love and support. It was beautiful to see even online. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be there.

We all know he can wail, such a powerful incredible voice. And we are all susceptible to human fragility, his instrument being his voice, cannot be replaced and is THE most fragile… has happened to the best of powerhouses in every genre like Freddy Mercury, Jay Buchanan, Chris Cornell, Myles Kennedy, Axel Rose basically no Legend of a singer has not had HORRIBLE vocal shows. Vessel has every right to be distraught over it, but I hope he knows his fans know what he’s capable of and know that show was actually a blessing in being crowd dependent and it was beautiful and the closest thing to a powerful spiritual experience that I’ve had. It hit me like a bullet train the emotions of singing with the crowd and knowing what vessel was suffering yet he endured and persevered. I’ve the utmost respect and reverence for him for that show.

Being able to vocally carry a vocalist is an amazing experience and something I've been a part of in the past (ironically, in Manchester - not the same venue though). My other half is a massive fan of The Alarm and has been for years. During this particular gig we went to, Mike Peters (their lead vocalist/founder) was really ill and unable to sing, so as we all knew the words, we helped him along and sang to him. That show didn't involve a show-stop, though.

I found Sleep Token in maybe 2021 i think. Jaws was my first stumbling upon and it blew me away. Followed them lightly and then This Place Will Become Your Tomb came out and i became a perma-fan. Take Me Back To Edens first listen through was an amaIng experience to me. Being at this show and singing along would have been epic. And a Euclid closer? Man the whole audience would be half crying the whole time! Someday i hope to see a sleep token show!

While you were there the entire SP discord was watching ready to fight to death for Vess. It’s okay to not be that strong all the time. We will protect this man with the power of a thousand suns.

I've rewatched your Sleep Token reactions time and time again because I really like everything you thought about their stuff - almost like listening to the albums with a friend! this one, too, is super interesting, and your love and appreciation for the band really shines through. thanks for this!! ❤ also, now that almost a full hour of II drumming content is out on Drumeo - will you be taking a look at any (all?) of it? I loved your insight on his previous offerings and I'd love to hear what you think of the new content!

Thanks! I’ve just posted a video where I watch and respond to points he makes during the interview segments. Not included any drumming footage reactions though as I didn’t have time for that today. Perhaps in future if I can wait and not just go ahead and watch it by myself in quick bursts 😅

Vessels vocal performance and range in the majority of tokens tracks. Especially “take me back to Eden”. Where he gives some of his best angelic lows and highs before giving an absolutely demonic throaty scream at the end Is very definitely taxing even for one blessed by sleep. Singing that track multiple times over the course of tour especially with practice effort put in before shows. And the fact that he can actually hit those notes live. I don’t blame him for having trouble singing that day. He is like the Freddy mercury of our generation. Absolutely INCREDIBLE vocalist. His singing hits me like a truck everytime I listen to their tracks and I often can’t help but sing along Very powerful very emotional extremely passionate A true artist at heart and in soul.

I wasn't at this gig. But I'm so happy vessel carried it on to the best of his ability. And the fact they played take me back to eden is incredible. I hope to see them soon, I've only just recently got into them as a friend told me about them knowing I'd love them shortly after take me back came out. AND AS FOR EUCLID! What I believe is that's their swan song to a degree. It's my favourite song they've done, unsurprisingly because it's the finale of their three album story. The way it transforms. I've listened to it none stop this last week because even though I heard it a few months ago, I was sat on a train going home last week and it came on, and it hit me. It's the ultimate finale. Without going on about how much I love this song, they won't play it until the finale of their tour. Maybe it will become a staple after but who knows.

Loved your recap! I was lucky enough to get a spot at barricade and the love was there. Both coming from the band and from the fans around me. A unique experience we will never forget!

I was able to see them in September when they came through the States, and can clearly remember the hype and conjecture surrounding the Wembley show as it approached. Were they going to play *this*, were they going to do *that*? Then the time came, and I heard about what happened. My heart broke for the band, and all the people who went. But, then as I watched clips and videos that were starting to emerge, and listened to the folks that were able to be there... it started to sound like this wonderful and unique experience. Where, instead of the band headlining this ritual, it turned into their fans giving them their own contribution. This show culminated into their fans being to give back an offering of reverence and respect. What a beautiful moment in time.

This was my first Sleep Token concert and it was such a magical experience. Even though we didn’t get to experience Vessel at 100%, the fact that they didn’t cancel and carried on even though they must have been feeling terrible has honestly made me love them even more and I’m so glad that I got to be a part of it. I also wasn’t much of a fan of Health tbh, I really liked some parts of their set but I think their vibe is just ever so slightly too different from Sleep Token for a lot of people there to really get into. Not sure how it was in standing but I was in seated and I was actually pretty disappointed in the crowd during Health’s set - a lot of people were just having conversations and talking over each other and not even trying to get into the music. Like I said I think their vibe was a bit too different but I still stayed respectful of their performance and listened. Must have sucked for the people that really like Health to have had so many people being pretty rude during their set.

Getting the right support act for Sleep Token is so tricky. Like no one really sounds quite like them. It was an interesting choice at least. Not sure I’d have experienced Health live otherwise as not quite my cup of tea but always good to check out other musical flavours from time to time.

I really enjoyed Health, even though I’d only heard them for the first time in Germany with Sleep Token a week or so before. I guess I was standing about 10 rows from the front at Wembley and people around me seemed to be in to it as I remember. I don’t know how to describe it but the wall of noise was so intense at times I thought my heart would burst out of my chest! The lead singer Johnny was walking up and down the merch queue in the afternoon so I got to tell him I enjoyed their music and asked him how they got that sound. He told me they use a lot of electronics 😀. He seemed a really nice guy and also man’s his own merch stand which is pretty cool.

I was there!!! I flew from D.C., went to the pop up shop too at The Black Heart, nice to see where they had the debut. Personally, it was an amazing experience, Vessel still pushed through and sang beautifully towards the rest of the set despite what happened. But it was awesome singing and screaming the lyrics all together in front of him though for the couple songs he couldnt sing much😅. The band still sounded great, ugh specially ii on the drums. I am so happy we got Blood Sport. I thought I'd never get to see that one live. I cried so many happy tears during that concert.

Incredible recap my friend! Was really looking forward to this and to see Drew and Birb’s vlogs from the whole trip. Entire experience seems truly special especially all being about the greatest damn band in the world right now. Absolutely amazing how everything’s gone down even the misfortune of Vessel’s voice being unwell. Even in that moment of adversity sparked something unique and something that’s simply a spectacle. Thanks for this recap homie and so happy for you! Cheers 🍻

I flew from Portugal for the show. I was in the table behind u in the pub😂. I loved the show, and loved to listen all of us singing for vessel, made everything more emotional and human. And yes, would have loved for them to play Euclid, but I am so happy they played Blood Sport as it is one of my fav songs. I think vessel really took the energy from the public and came back. also, the queue for the merch I was there for a whole hour lol 0 regrets

nice review, thank u!!) also I wanted to say that this situation is reaaaly tough. I doubt they could reschedule so big show, or even cancel it, it was just impossible imho. so I really, like really appreciate that people stay for the last of the show, started to singing and then fully supporting the band in social media (not everyone ofc, but like almost everyone). also the main thing - HEALTH is FIRST for everyone. its not ok for people to risk their health so much. especially voice for singers. this is really 'dangerous zone'. so I trully hope that Vessel is ok bcz this is tough sh_t. I know what it's like to not live up to expectations, especially your own, inner expectations for yourself. also had problems with this, since I am also an artist... so again, thanks for review! and ofc - WORSHIP🖤

Saw them back in September in Dallas, and yeah the line just to get in the venue was nuts. Took almost 2 hours to get in the doors. And while the opening band was playing, I got in the merch line and it took about an hour and a half before i was able to get to the table. Actually missed Chokehold and Vore. The whole place was so fucking packed. But it was still an incredible show. Whenever I saw the first video posted about Vessel not being able to sing here, I hurt for him.. imagine finally getting the recognition for the music you've put your heart and soul into and selling out (I believe I read it was about 10-15 minutes) in a place this big, and NOT being able to perform. Still love that he was able to pull off his usual Vessel dance moves though

A few thoughts -- a lot of bands have backing tracks ready to go in the event of something like this. I commend this band for not even entertaining the idea. Respect your crowd. Respect the fans and they'll take care of you. I'm reminded of a mishap at a Slayer show where the PA went out while they were playing War Ensemble. It was obvious that something had happened (all you could hear was the drums), the crowd picked up on it immediately and started screaming the lyrics right on cue so they could finish the song. Amazing. Sounds like Sleep Token are in good company. People are going to remember this for show for the rest of their lives. This is the kind of shit that turns bands into legends. Wish I could have been there.

I was just put on to Sleep Token, literally a week ago. I have never heard anything like them, I am completely hooked. I'm obsessively finding anything and everything pertaining to them. My favorite band ever is Tool, and these guys give me they same feelings they do. Love, love, love them.

I got that heart dropping stomach churning feeling when Sam came on and said Vessel couldnt sing. That was immediately followed by a swell of supoortive and positive emotion from everyone around me in the crowd and it turned out to still be the greatest gig I've ever been to. Mayyyybe a bit less emotional than their previous gigs I've been to as I'm listening to someone screaming the lyrics next to me rather than Vessels beautiful tone but what a show, what a performance, what an effort from Vessels to sing what he did. So stoked to see what's next for the boys.

I’m so glad on everyone at the show’s behalf that Vessel trusted them enough to tell them the truth (even if it was indirectly). It makes me so happy that he did realise he wasn’t well and told everyone he couldn’t carry on with his voice, even if it was one of their biggest shows ever, but I’m also so ecstatic to see and hear that he still tried. I fucking love this band dude, worship🙏🖤

Oh wow! I did not expect for someone not already into Sleep Token to find their way to this video. That’s so cool to hear man. Enjoy the rabbit hole! What kind of music / bands do you currently listen to? I’ll see if I can think of a good gateway song for you…

Traditionally I'm a Tool, Slipknot, Deftones, Killswitch type guy. You mentioned Drew and I remember watching all his Tool reactions and loving the way he did it. Think thats what got his channel really moving. These days though I find the older I get the heavier I'm liking my music. Bleed from Within, Motionless, Gojira, Currents. You get the idea lol.
@SteveOGRock11 ай бұрын
@@rchris77nd oooh, ok nice one. Based on those bands (I also like ALL of them), I reckon start with “The Summoning” and “Vore” both off their latest album. Then dip into “The Offering” from 2 albums ago. If you dig those then I reckon listen to their albums in order from there: Sundowning -> This Place Will Become Your Tomb -> Take Me Back To Eden. They aren’t always heavy, they tend to go heavy when a particular song or moment requires it. Their latest album is, genuinely, the most incredible album I’ve heard in the past 5 years at least. Incredible song writing, musicianship, lyricism, and innovating. Good luck my friend.
