To clarify! Vessel is a multi-instrumentalist. All songs are written between vessel and the drummer (the only other “official” member of Sleep Token) Vessel also was in fact in a band prior to Sleep Token. That information is easy to obtain via a simple Google search, but I would urge you to avoid that if you want to hold on to the illusion of anonymity and the character that is Vessel. Sufficed to say, Sleep Token is the brain child of a seasoned singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. There is a lot of mystery to it all, but there’s no coincidences when it comes to the choices made instrumentally and how they compliment Vessels voice. This is all done mathematically. One large equation.

I love the drumming, and don't want to downplay it when I say this: Every single instrument in these songs is played to the degree that it needs to be. When one element is the focus, the rest pull back. Vessel isn't just a vocalist, he's an instrument that gets the spotlight because his voice deserves it. It's so intentional, precise, and skillful. It's part of the reason three people can sit back and analyze the vocals of one song for 30 minutes while simultaneously giving the impression that they're doing their best not to linger for too long.

It fits into the narrative of the song: He is in a chokehold, until he realizes that the person is "showing him the way, even if it hurts him". I think what makes his vocals so hauntingly amazing is their realness. It's just in him and he channels it through his voice. But there's another thing I realized: The whole, "cultiness" some say, world building, as I would put it, around this band, that is centered about a very faith filled setting, is a quality that can actually amplify his emotions. As he is himself in his words, but also Vessel, this follower of a deity, entangled in all these emotional entanglements. Emotional amplification through a character that feels it even more than he does himself. But that's just a perspective I have. And thought might be interesting. No guarantees if this is actually the case. Just something I could imagine working.

Will really does have puppy dog energy! Seeing him get the zoomies and crowd killing whilst sat down was so funny, but damn if that ain't my arse when that drop hits! Seeing someone who's a massive icon in his own rights share so much love and admiration publicly, is just wholesome and feels so lost nowadays. This is the most beautiful breakdown of this song I've ever heard and seeing Will just getting buck with excitement just solidifies how incredible some pieces of music are. You're all incredible talents and wonderfully well learned. It's an experience watching these sometimes, but this one really hit! Maybe it's Sleep Token, maybe it's Will and Lorna Shore's influence on me too, maybe it's this weed! Or maybe it's just really lovely and heartwarming to see so many respected individuals collectively paying their respects towards others. It's fantastic!

I think one of the reasons I love Vessel’s voice so much is cause reminds me of how Peter Steele from Type o Negative would accent some words in his softer passages…especially like in Black No. 1 and Love You to Death.

I feel this is why Spiritbox is also very fresh sounding for metal. They are super heavy when they want to be, but Courtney throws in aspects of R&B in her vocal performance. Love both bands.

Yooo, Elizabeth is a Sanderfan! That's awesome. This band are incredible. I know you guys are vocal specialists but a lot of credit has to go to the drumming from Vessel II which does a lot to set the stage for the song composition and performance levels to really shine. Vessel's vocal power and control are nuts though. Another thing he does to impart emotional weight to his singing is to basically keep sounding like he's on the edge of crying, some notes will end with him doing a controlled but impactful break. It's spellbinding. Really enjoyed both reactions, would love to see more, you guys are all very fun to watch and really interesting and insightful. Thanks so much for the video!
