That "On the Buses" theme from the 1971 film is just too catchy....

Great shuffle on the buses Sir, amazing to see how the buses have changed over the years.

Yes sir! You can see that they positioned the 1875 "Knifeboard" Omnibus right next to the 2013 BYD electric bus to mark out just how different they are.

My first time in London was 1996 and I was quite oblivious to the modern double decker London buses, instead being blown away by the Routemasters still in service. I don't know if they had power steering fitted but the drivers seemed to be steering them very physically. A great idea to replace the AEC 9.6 litre engines with modern Scania 9.0 litres, amongst others. Keeping a beautiful design icon of London in place as well as being environmentally sound. The Green buses remind me of the Green Ulsterbus AEC that took me to school in 1971, just as Ulsterbus were phasing in their new blue and white colour scheme on Leyland Leopards and Bristol REs.

Yes, sadly, the Heritage Routes with the Routemasters have now been discontinued, so they are not running regularly in London any more. They did actually have power steering and an automatic gearbox, but still plenty of arm twirling was required. You are right, they fitted them with Scania engines later in life. The green buses are rather nice, aren't they?

@@lloydvehicleconsulting the funny thing was that while my wife and I were walking along Oxford Street the Concorde actually flew over head.

It’s amazing what you find at Brooklands, quite often Morecambe has a display of Buses on the Prom, thank you for an entertaining tour 🛎 🛎 Joseph

It was a very nice museum, actually! Easy to navigate as well.

What an incredible prese of London Buses! Thank you Joseph. This shows the evolution of the bus similar to the evolution of the motorcar! I see similarities to NYC buses. They do use London double Decker buses as tours around certain Manhattan neighborhoods, although I have never ridden on one.

Yes, Routemasters definitely have ended up in America, although I couldn't actually tell you exactly where... Thank you for watching, sir!

The Regent 3 was the iconic RT class with a Pre select gearbox they built over 4.000 of those for London and were repaced by the Routemaster. The AEC Swift was a semi auto bus and was not a success in London.
@lloydvehicleconsulting3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Regent IIIs turn up in all sorts of 1960s and 1970s television series, including The Avengers and The Professionals. Had not seen a Swift before, probably for the reason you mentioned!
