Interesting the Chief Exec taking a 50% pay cut in response to the downturn in business performance. Couldn’t see that happening in senior management in the UK. Blame someone else, cut the workforce & receive a performance bonus.

It's a crazy situation at the moment. I actually have a follow up to this which I recorded last week, and so I hope that is also informative.

The articles that you referenced failed to mention the disaster that has been China. Nissan's market share has dropped from 5.85% to 3.9% in 4 short years from 2019 - 23, and their sales could drop by a further 25% this year. They have completely withdrawn from the EV segment, as they couldn't compete.

That is perfectly fair, it is more a starting point for discussion rather than a comprehensive video. There will be a follow up in a few weeks' time.

Back in the late 90s Nissan was within days of bankruptcy before Renault came in and the alliance was formed. It seemed like a marriage made in heaven that combine the best of both parties, I’m not so sure about the union with Honda. Putting two players together who are not globally strong but just regionally strong (and given the loss of the lucrative Chinese market business) I’m really not sure how this is going to work without huge production, network and sales representation consolidation.

Thank you, sir! In the follow up video to this which I made a couple of days ago, we go into the histories of Nissan, and their projected partner Honda, in a bit more detail. The alliance with Nissan (and now Mitsubishi) did benefit Renault as well as giving Nissan some stability, but it seems to have run its course, doesn't it?

The automobile industry is going through massive disruptors at the moment including a rapid fall in the size of the global market and the rapid uptake of EVS in the world's biggest market which is China. There's a weird dichotomy going on where in the West there is a reaction against EVs while in the rest of the world they are becoming the primary type of vehicle. There are many other technological disruptors at work as well. I highly recommend the Electric Viking channel on KZbin for a better understanding of what is going on with the EV market versus oil. Nice no-nonsense videos for a pleasant Australian man.

Thank you very much indeed! Yes, we have a follow up video to this coming out soon which I recorded a couple of days ago. You are right about electric cars, there is a big reaction against them in many parts of the Western World.

From an American perspective, Nissan's reputation has taken a beating in recent years, sir. I had a look, and its market share has declined around 3% in the last 10 years, from 8.5% to 5.6%. Doesn't seem a lot, but in this market (15.5 million total units in 2023), this represents about half a million cars/light trucks (SUVs of all sizes and pickups are classed as 'light trucks') per year. That's a lot of revenue, and I suppose it's enough to be a major contributing factor to their current woes. The changes being made by Nissan to its management in North America appear to reflect that.

Yes sir, Nissan is probably viewed quite differently over here compared with America. It seems to be far less successful. As you say, the market share has declined significantly over the last few years. Thank you again for watching, sir!

Well I found this very interesting in truth I think Nissan have been their own enemy they had far to many dealerships here started selling them off and selling cars with big discounts to get them off the lot I belive their partnership with Renault has ended here if you have new inventory on your lot if you have not sold it or moved elsewhere you have to start pying for it Nissan and Honda are considering a merge which would certainly help Nissan out both seem to believe sales are being affected by Chinese car sales in other contries a lot of changes are coming Steletis starting in January are reducing the prices of Jeep and Dodge Ram by 35% this is the retail price of course Joseph we will see what happens long term EVs are not selling well here for one thing finding charging stations is difficult and you can buy a tank of gas cheaper than the cost of charging I have been following the Nissan situation for some time and as it stands the future does no bode well anyway best regards Andy Allen
