A Slippery Blyton Park Track Day

A few onboard laps from a wintery Blyton Park in December 2020. Outside temp was around 4 degrees C.
Car Specs:
Chassis - KW V3 Coilovers, Solid camber adjust topmounts, standard oem bushes and roll bars.
Interior: full 6 point roll cage, fixed bucket seats, 6 point harnesses. Full carpets, front sound deadening and doorcards remain,
Engine: 1.8 8v GTI engine, full stainless exhaust (4-1), Newman 268 Cam. (approx 125-130bhp)
Weight: Approx 950-980kg
Tyres: Nankang NS-2R

Love that fast right turn and how you control the skid.. I have not driven on wet yet on a track day, seems to be a bit nerve wrecking.. ja ja

Its nothing to be worried about, just ease yourself into it 👌🏼 if you go to a track with plenty of run off area its a really good place to learn and explore limits safely. Good luck!!

I don't know if you met heal and toe drivers a silver Peugeot 306 Gti and a clio Rs i would love to see if the old mk2 can keep up with them !

Ive never met them, but I have seen their videos! Those boys are wild! Great drivers, I dont think the ‘ol Golf would keep up!

Do you have some short shifting rod installed? And where did you get the longer rod for shifter?

Yes, good spot. All home made, unfortunately. I raised the gearstick in the car using some stainless bar which i tapped to take the gearknob, that was then welded to the original. With the increased length of the gearstick it also increases the throw, so ive remade the selector rod that comes out of the gearbox as well as the relay shaft (this on you can usually buy online) - hope that helps 👍🏼

Nice driving! Do you feel like you lost some down end power when you changed to a 268 cam?

Actually the opposite, as its a mild cam ive gained across the rev range. Really good option for an 8v!

How much height you dropped with the KW coilvers 40mm front/rear?

Id say more than that. Ive just got the car to sit exactly how i want, so when static the top of tyre is inline with the lower part of the arch. The wishbones are just off from level, which isnt ideal for handling but its a toss up between form and function 👍🏼

@@Jims_racing I am curently building mk2 with an abf engine for street / one time a year track and seriously thinking about the eibach pro kit(+sachs advantage gas shocks) , because kw kit cost a lot and the other cheap coilovers like fk ,jom ,ta technix are pretty bad i guess .

@@unstablemind4206 Yeah there is nothing wrong with shocks and springs, you are just limited to fine tuning the the height, which may or may not bother you :)

Awesome driving like always, hope to get my mk2 out this year for some track days so might see you about! How do you get the camera to balance light so well? I've tried a similar setup with my gopro but it seems to focus inside and cause the white balance to go crazy bright outside, cheers.

Thanks mate! Yes hope to see you at a track, come and say hi 👍🏼 errrmm i use a gopro hero3+ mounted to the cage with a cheap ebay cage mount. I think i changed the spot metering in the settings and it makes the exposure much better 👍🏼

@@Jims_racing No worries, awesome cheers for that! I actually use the same gopro. I will definitely, my mk2 has alot of similar parts as yours so would be awesome together. Got 280mm g60's and 6 point cage and I'll be on ar1's soon. I'm running a 16v kr though so would be good to see the differences.
