I still run this exact same model, with Monitor Audio RS8 and a M&K MX350 (original USA model) and it is a joy to listen to. So much power and it still looks beautiful. Nice video.

Great posting! I bought one new back in 1998 on a Air Force base exchange in the UK. I have not used it in 15 years. I bought a cheaper Yamaha receiver with HDMI inputs that made it easier to hook up my equipment. I just took it out of the closet and hooked it back up to my Sony TV with a toslink cable yesterday. Wow! I forgot how great sounding this amp is! I have it hooked up to Definitive Technology tower speakers, center speaker and rear surrounds. Amazing with movies! I am calling a Stereo repair place today to take it in to fix the display that keeps going off and give it a tune up. I know the display fix is just to solder the board but it is beyond my capability with my fingers that hardly bend. Man I just love this A1 amp!

It's a great device, I always leave images and videos to the TV, and the 5.1 DTS audio to the DSP-A1, the question of audio devices with HDMI is just to maintain or burn out.... as for the Your problem with the display going dark (a few characters) is simple to solve, you need to re-solder the diaplay terminals to the board.

One of the best DSP for stereo listening. Better to hear with no effect mode. The music flavor is absolutely smooth which never gives listening fatigue. Never mind if it is DSP - A1 or A2 if you are a stereo enthusiast listening no effect mode.

Yes friend, DSP-A1 one of the best of this Yamaha crop, as well as others that I have RX-V795, RX-V995 and RX-V2095 to hear audio from sources in "stereo" use only "effect Off", they are wonderful!!!

@@CarlosStephano You need to overlook your audio connection. I suggest buying a DAC to convert digital to analog signal or use Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. Most of them don't know that there is a good DAC inside this adapter (type in google - Xray of Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter to see the micro DAC which is a fair way to convert digital to analog) or Apple AirPort Express can be used as a high-performance streamer / DAC to play-out from a Mac or iOS device either over WiFi (both digital and analog). If it's a digital connection using mini Toslink cable from the airport then Yamaha DSP will convert to analog and if an analog connection to DSP then the airport will do the digital conversion to analog.

안녕하세요 DSP A1을 소유중인 한국 유저입니다. 이번에 구매한 것까지 총 2대 보유중입니다. 정말 소리가 좋은 앰프입니다. 첫번째 앰프는 좌우 바란스를 고치다 터트리고 그 소리를 잊지 못해 찾아다니다, 최근 중고장터에서 후면 단자 보호캡과 리모컨까지 있는 특A급 매물을 찾아 기분이 좋네요. 집에 가서 연결하면 그때 그 소리를 다시 들려주겠지요? 지금 저는 군대에 있어 휴가가 너무나도 기다려집니다. 얼른 나가서 들으러 가야겠어요.

Use TV as TV and Stereo as stereo, image for TV, audio for stereo, use RCA or Optical

I used a optical fiber optic cable from my Sony TV to the DVD optic on the A1 and it works great.

Olá Stéphano. Esse DSP A1 na minha opinião é superior aos Aventage em termos de áudio, mas não obviamente em features. Considero essa época da Yamaha o auge do áudio da marca. Depois desse vieram o A2, Z7, Z9 e Z11, verdadeiros monster audio onde o A1 foi o pioneiro. Muitos galam do 3090 anterior à ele, mas ainda era Dolby Surround, sem comparação com o DTS do A1.

Boa noite meu amigo. Tudo bem.. dos multi canais além do Yamaha DSP-A1 os da série 5 são um show a parte, tanto em robustez como em qualidade ou seja 595, 795, 995, 2095. Quanto às caixas acústicas wharfedale são excelentes.

Hi, thanks for sharing this video. Do you think this amp is good for using only for 2ch stereo, i want to buy the dsp-a2 modell but i only use 2ch stereo for listening music?

Thanks for the comment, I'll give you some advice: if it's just for stereo and you're going to use old vintage boxes, better use vintage devices too, if you're going to have modern modern boxes the Yamaha DSP-A1 will do very well.

Its good, for 2 channnel listening it will depend on what kind of speakers your driving. I have one and use it more for a pre-amp. My NAD2200, Yamaha MX1, MX1000, Emotiva BasX300 aound way better than this. Its a sentimental piece for me as the looks and the HT was killer in the mid 90s.

It is absolutely fantastic for listening to 2ch stereo. (That is the ONLY thing that I use it for). Works great on old speakers, as well as new ones.
