A Small Warco Wm180 Lathe - Part #3 - In The Workshop. A small and extremely inexpensive package arrives. Are the contents any good I wonder as it was so cheap and can it be successfully fitted to the Lathe?
A comparison between this and the original part.

I recently bought a inexpensive tool holder set (off the net) clearly advertised and even labeled on the tools themselves as 3/8". I quickly discovered they wouldn't fit my tool holders as they actually measure .395" which is about .005" over 10mm. I quickly setup my mill and buzzed them down to what their supposed to be. They actually work quite well now.

That looks like a really good small lathe. A great addition to the workshop.

I also bought such a set. It's now sitting on the top shelf, gathering dust, and has been replaced with a fabricated metal one...:-(

It's nice when inexpensive tools work as good, or better than expected for the price.

I have one of these aluminum qctp they are Junk Keith. i sent you an email from ottawa regarding your broken stuart twinn in the junk bin. You showed it again in a video. I emailed to see if you would sell it to me, but never got a response from you. Hope your well Keith. Nice Chinese Lathe, i never thought the day would come that you would buy a chinese lathe let alone a aluminum quick change tool post. listen these aluminum posts are no good the tool holders DO NOT have the strength the ajusting screw warps you will see and also the aluminum lever to tighten will bend easy and the thread it threads into the post gives way. the original four square post is best. Regards Daniel Ottawa. ps did you get my email??

Yes I know. That is why I bought it. It was more than cheap enough to experiment with, having said that, I have used it for Turning and even parting off a piece of Brass. I have 3 other lathes all fitted with proper quick change tool posts so for serious work, I use those. This little Chinese Warco lathe is specifically for small jobs in my smaller workshop which is attached to the house. Sorry, I don't remember any Email (I get hundreds of them every week) about the broken Stuart D10 which isn't mine anyway.

@@keithappleton Hi Keith, Yes i know you get hundreds of emails, and i truly appreciate your responding to mine. I am going to buy a new lathe jn short order, this lack of a lathe has stopped me from building. I wish to say that, your the greatest steam engine builder on all KZbin i have noted that a number of builder's on youtube turn model steam engine building in a complication of many complicated set ups not required. they have all these fancy electronics which are not required who needs a dro, some of these builders arw clearly using rocket science in their approaches. I am of the mind that to many set ups means increased possibility of errors. listen i am going to build four units from a set of drawings in cold rolled steal , i would make molds and do my own castings but the price of iron is extremely high here and its hard to find , for example a solid piece of say 2 inch OD cast iron by 2 feet long would cost around 400 $ canadian, also bronze here is about 100$ for 6 inch by 2 inch OD, on to copper pipe 12 inches by say 5 inches of copper pipe for a boiler is about 400$. I am limited in the kinds of metal i can use regarding cost. Brass is not to expensive. I thought about using 12 L 14 for the cylinder and standards as it has lead in it, but i researched with mixed reviews on this some say no it rusts very fast some say yes as others have used it for the steam cylinder like aluminum bronze 12 L 14 mills wonderfully but it has lead in it!! I was waiting for my estate and planning to buy several stuart kits about five or six kits from them, i indicated to them that one kit would be for you a set of castings as a gift from me for all you have taught me, but i have not as yet received my estate. I had plans to buy a 12 by 36 inch lathe from Busy Bee Canada. my problem with the old lathe i have is that it cannot drill one inch holes for the cylinder as the cylinder bore is over one inch , but i have solved this problem a metal company here can sell me 2 1/4 od round stock with a 1 inch hole down the centre its 250 $ for 24 inches this i way i just need to use a boring bar for tge final bore dimention of 1 -1/4 i tried a solid round bar i could only bore to 14 mm with a drill fixed into the mt2 tailstock, when i tried 16 mm the tailstock and lathe vibrated badly so i started after this with a boring bar which after a straight four hours i was in acoma and i had only bored to 3/4 i needed 1 1/8 for this particular engine plan. i also have a set of plans for a double cylinder of 1 inch bore again in cold rolled steel. better stop here please keep in touch also o yes i am going to build four units of the single cylinder unit at the same time, I am going to send the third unit as a gift and you maybe can a video on it and tell me how i did building it. I owe you alot keith your my one and only teacher and i thank you so much for your great gifts. Those that critisize you are those whom are jealous because they all are stupid and require a DRO where you do not. I wish you and your family a merry christmas and i look forward to sending you one of my units as a gift maybe you will do a video. I have not joined your patreon channel yet i will very soon. cheers Daniel ottawa:
