I bought one of the rear toolposts for parting on mine as its more rigid. It would be an easy make but warco didn't want a huge amount for it.

Could you cut a couple flats on the round portion above the knurl to fight a wrench?

That camera is quite a bit better than my old Sony NEX VG20, but it will have to go some to beat the mic on my VG20.

The internal mic on the Canon XF400 is very good, but it is useful to be able to use my 48 volt phantom powered Sennheiser MKH 416 microphone straight into the camera though for recording interviews & general recording of live dialogue. I still prefer my small Sony FDR-AX53 Camcorder for ease of use though:-)))

Ah, the dark art of parting off. Just a thought inspired partly by this video: (I am totally unqualified so probably best to ignore everything I put, but anyway..) I have the WM280 which has a round post under the tool holder and the advice is to wind the parting tool back over this to reduce the overhang for more rigidity. I have a quick change tool post but we amateurs don't really need the speed do we? Anyway, the original tool post is more rigid so how long does it take to change the whole tool post for the original with a decent parting tool already set up in it? Not long, I just tried.... Just another idea for anyone else struggling, hope it helps.

seems like you're fighting against the focal length of your new camera's lense. you shouldn't need to post process the blur out. you can experiment putting the camera a foot or so further away than you typically do and zoom in to frame your shot that way to compensate for reduced range -- you could also zoom in all the way on your detail (on a person you usually focus on the wetness of the eyes) -- then zoom out for your shot framing in full focus. when it's 'set up' you can physically truck the camera back or forward to "learn" the new ideal focal length range for positioning of your lense. for fun probably can swap over your old lense from the old cam to compare, or if you feel like spending money try a fixed and or a macro lense for your close up shots as well. growing pains! great video, thanks again!

It's just my incompetence really, I am usually so busy doing the job to notice what the camera is doing until I get the footage in the editor .......
