That price is definitely a non-starter but not gonna lie the build and design looks excellent. Really hope this is something that gradually comes down in price and gets better along the way, that would be a big win for consumers or even just for niche customers who would find this really beneficial. Could see a big use case for those with jobs on their feet but still needing a dedicated keyboard probably better than a Surface can provide.

@@anurag.tensordev4032 The Lenovo is superior in every way barring the single large screen experience that you have when you open a folding device. If someone really needs a large _single_ screen (17"+) for say creative content, then the HP might be a better choice than the Lenovo. Regardless, there are plenty of 17" laptops that can be found for a fraction of the price, so the one advantage the HP Fold has over the Lenovo Yoga Book is small. The Lenovo is a fantastically designed dual-screen laptop. It's a no-brainer to choose it over any competitor in the market or near future.

Sleek but... man for 5k I want some more oomph than an i7 and 16gb of ram. If phone companies can cram 24gb into a phone its inexcusable for a 5k dollar lap-tab.

I feel like the screen should just be a foldable screen and the main PC should be in the keyboard unit. That way, you can keep the foldable screen and just upgrade the keyboard unit whenever something better comes along. Also, it would open for better cooling solution and higher performance CPUs as well.

If they are not constantly connected that is simply impossible. Look at the surface book line. You MUST have everything in the tablet display because people will potentially use the device without the keyboard at all. That means you need to cram everything in the screen except external gpu which this will never have.

Or you can pick up a new or slightly used Gen 1 X1 Fold for less than $1k with a form factor that makes a ton of sense. A 13.3 inch screen that folds down to the size of a book and can be used in clamshell, landscape, or portrait modes. Lenovo got the hardware right on their first outing, but Microsoft wasn't ready for it with the never-released Win 10x. Windows 11 made this device a pleasure to use. I simply cannot wrap my head around what HP is doing here with a $5k list price. Even the Asus Zenbook Fold starts $1,500 less and the Gen 2 Lenovo (should it ever ship) is expected to drop at $2,500.

I don't think price really matters yet. This is such a big leap forward for portable computers- let's get it in the hands of the super users and super wealthy so we can iron out the kinks over a couple generations. Just like how, IMO, the Samsung foldable phones have gotten to a good point after a few iterations. I'm loving that computers are heading in this direction.

Wow I didn't know these existed already. These foldbooks are the future! The large screen real estate suits graphic & engineering designers alike, and also helps live collaborations and presentations, not to mention that most people would appreciate some extra screen space too. There's also potential to eliminate the physical keyboards actually - using the lower half as a touchscreen keyboard could really cut down on the total product weight while still allowing heavy duty work to take place. In fact, there might even be apps developed to enable more efficient touchscreen keyboard layouts. A lower total product weight could help the product survive when it falls from height. Although the price isn't quite right on this one, glad to see foldbooks developing as a new type of laptop. I haven't checked out the specifications though, but a common problem on most devices is system instability/pen lag while trying to write. Hopefully the specs are sufficient to support all the drawing, writing and resource-intensive tasks I hope for it to be able to do without heating up excessively 😂 It would be a shame to get a foldbook and have it crash all the time while writing/drawing on it

Kudos to HP for producing this concept but I think Lenovo's dual-screen Yoga Book 9i is a superior implementation of a folding laptop, not to mention being *much* cheaper. The Lenovo can use tent mode whereas the HP does not have a hinge that will allow it due to its folding screen. Also, the Lenovo is larger at 13.3" for each screen, which makes it very usable in classic clamshell mode. I'm a very long time owner of HP laptops (since 2008 to present) but the price is astronomic for what you're really getting.

This is awesome looking. It's nice to have two design choices: keyboard embedded within the folded unit like this one and the asus and external like the lenovo x1 fold gen 2. Would I pay this much of a premium for the embedded keyboard, though? Probably not, even if I decided that was the better form factor for traveling. [the asus is out of consideration due to the lack of pen support and its general cludginess.] HP should use their own HP Display Control software for windows snapping which comes with the HP Envy 34" All-in-One for its ability to define any window snap zones you want. It's way better than anything that windows has built in even the "enhanced" one that is shown in the short demo. It makes it so much easier to move windows around large monitors and even between monitors.

These foldable laptops may become a little more mainstream once they hit that sub $2000 price tag in some years, but until then they are pretty interesting to see in the works. I'm usually an early adopter for new tech (including owning a foldable phone) but even with that said I can't see too many techies (let alone average consumers) ready to drop a down payment for a car on a laptop.
@ericolens3
@ericolens3 Жыл бұрын
congrats for being an early adopter. do you also provide feedback to the devs that way they can better develop the user experience? (UX) personally i hate the keyboard since it doesnt appear to have the full sized keys but the half sized chicklet keys (found on the 14" and smaller screen devices) also, im concered for the keyboard presses affect the lower part of the screen.
@bluemagoo
@bluemagoo Жыл бұрын
@@ericolens3 Yes I/we do, I'm not sure how much the feedback is taken into consideration but hopefully it helps. And that's actually one of my biggest concerns, especially since the way the keyboard is elevated around the bezel, and it obviously is a folding device. I'm worried that, that pressure aimed around the bezel will expedite the screen itself loosening from the bezel and separating from the hinge which is something that early edition foldables have suffered from in the past. Only time will tell unfortunately.

HP is asking for $5000. Wow. and we thought Apple Vision Pro was expensive

If Qualcomm with its Qualcomm 8cx Gen4 processor with integrated 5G is able to achieve at least Apple M1 performance, while also being low power and VERY importantly fanless, AND Microsoft would be able to iron out all software compatibility issue (like Rosetta 2 on a Mac), then this would be a perfect processor for this kind of device : fanless (silent), slim, always-connected through 5G,…

Its nice, but CRAZY EXPENSIVE, that thing is even more expensive than some more powerful gaming laptops.

ridiculous price point when the lenovo x1 fold is $2,499.

About ten people would buy that. Lenovo YogaBook 9i is half the price and seems much better. What do people at HP smoke when they are deciding prices?

dunno im not quite fond of foldable screen. i prefer lenovo or asus approach for dual screeen. and apple touchbar. shame they discontinue the touchbar. yes its not appealing for most of its user but its really appealing for business user like me

the build quality and design are worth the price....it's not comparable to the Asus and Lenovo devices. its so expensive, but worth it.

Hmmm I am more impressed by the X1 fold. its cheaper than this. But even so I am considering getting the Yoga book 9i instead

Wait - there is a USB-4 now? Come on... we just got everyone to agree to use USB-C! Now we are going to go down this route again?

The Lenovo Book 9i costs $2k and does everything this thing does. What maniac would pay $5k for this??

I have the book 9i and I can say for sure that lenovo did it better than anything I've seen so far. Even the new zenbook duo. The reason is the build quality. I cannot trust these new big laptabs in terms of durability while the 9i is top notch. Another point is content is not geared towards that square of a display so black bars and weird software bugs will be all over the place for years.
