Similar weather here in the PNW with a bit more snow......we just travelled to the British Virgin Islands. I highly recommend the visit!!! Sunshine, warm weather and warm water....priceless during winter. I'm typically a skier, after this trip I'm up for more beach and rum! LOL Glad you got away!

Love the el golfo ride along the coast Then coffee and cake in nice cafe in PB Love lanzarote for riding ,nearly up there with Majorca but it’s bloody windy 😟 and yep some of the roads are like riding in a skip Nice vid Juliet .can’t fault a bit of winter sun 🌞

Juliet, the loop around the LZ-703 to Los Hervideros was only closed to cars when we were there in Oct. Part of the road has collapsed but it was easily passable on a bike. The views along the coast and around the salt pans are stunning, well worth the ride back again! ;-)

Thanks for the video Juliet, nice to see some good cycling weather! 👍 That “herringbone” parking they have all over Spain is bloody dangerous. It’d be a thousand times safer if they just changed the angle of the parking bays to point forward, so cars drive slightly past the bay, then (by law if necessary) reverse in, not out! As the cars are LHD, the driver would then only have to glance over their left shoulder for a nice clear view of approaching traffic when leaving …instead of just bracing themselves before reversing completely blindly into oncoming traffic! 🙈 Ride safe! 🚴

Lanzarote is great for all things outdoor, I go twice a year, mountain biking, hiking, sea kayaking, running, swimming. El Golfo is nice, there is a rugged coastal walk which goes through the lava fields and finishes at a remote black sand beach with crashing waves. Love it 😊

I was in Lanzarote back in Nov and had the same perdicament with the road closed sign. I decided to risk it and dissocvered that is was only closed to motor traffic. I just lifter the bike over a small barrier. It was a beautiful quiet coatal road as well.

El Hiero. The smallest Island. Lovely hills. Well worth a visit. A very small airport means you will have to transfer on Tenerife.

Bike up to "El mirador del Rio" . Nice climb, superbe views and architecture from César Manrique. Al his work has defined Lanzarote and sets its apart from the other islands (He's the reason that you almost don't have any high buildings on the island).

Hi Jouliet. Go to Tenerife, its amazing. You have there everything from the desert to rain forest, not to mention the the highest Mt in Spain. I used to live there and was a bike mechanic For Free Motion. By the way the bike is SP Tarmac SL7 Pro. Happy roads.

Cycled part of this route from playa blanca last July. The road was closed then, there is a massive hole right beside the road but you could get passed it, although there was barriers and signs warning you not to.

Like a hot version of Iceland. Roads are nice over there albeit a bit corrugated in parts. I had a close one with a car backing out near the beach front a little while ago then a car overtook a car and nearly hit me. Digging the backing tune.

Just got home from a week in Lanzarote. Must have walked right past your apartment. Definitely try and get to Mirador del Rio if you can. The views are incredible. It’s a bloody long climb though. I did it in the car🙄, but saw a group riding up and one of the guys had only got one leg. I wanted to stop and tell him how awesome he was, but I don’t think he would have appreciated the interruption! Well done on missing that car too.

That was a less windy day as well.. Get some good sandstorms and palm benders now and then.. Loads of people out on rented stuff cars mopeds scooters etc not knowing what they are doing really so u have to be on your guard for sure :)

I went to el golfo on the bike, also did that road closed, you can get past. Carrying the bike. The road had a sinkhole, bit dodgy.

Los hervideros is a really nice place. If you have the chance try again, there is a big hole in the road, but you can pass it. My favorite road on the island, dont miss it.

Im very jealous! Know the area well, been going for 35 plus years, yet to cycle it! You could have gone down the closed road, cyclists were a week ago. Northerly route around the top is very scenic, some steep climbs, but would be worth it! Next time perhaps!

Tenerife fantastic for road cycling. Highest point (Teide Peak) in Spain is on Tenerife and it has the longest continuous climb as well to near the top.

Wind nearly always blows East to West there and comes off the Sahara hot and sandy sometimes. If you stay on the East coast, you are nearly always going to have a headwind on the way home......

Oh yeah, that Lanzarote wind. The trip up to Orzela is really good, then obv Mirador Del Rio. But I think the south west is really cool, the coast road at El Golfo is nice. Try the Femes climb, it almost killed new but I was hungover. I think you’d smash it.
