Great job with the calving. Especially with the backwards calve. That always scares me to have to pull those. I think it’s great the skills you have. It must be a blessing to have so many capable people around your farm. And it’s great that the younger family members have cows of their own. I’m sure it makes them feel a part of the operation. Love to see the calves cozy in the shelters . Great crop of calves, good and strong. It’s sure a hard pull when they’re backwards. Great colour in the calves, love shorthorns. Stay warm, hope the cold passes by with no problems.

Hey, welcome to the channel. When the temperature is colder than -13°f, we try to keep the calves in the barn for 3 days or so. If they go out to quick we take the chance of freezing the calves ears. During the day we let those calves moms go out to eat and drink. When it's warmer outside the calves may not even sleep in barn at all. Hope that makes sense

I am really enjoying watching your videos. We have a Hereford beef farm in NW IL. You do so great with the cattle and I'm wondering what you did before 2017, before you farmed?

Before 2017, my brother (Darryl) and I didn't have cows. We ran a larger grain farm. We walked away from some land and decided to diversify into cattle. I started grain farming in 1999, Darryl in 92. This is really the only job I have ever had.

Why don't you make a lean two for the cows that r calving outside so there is a bit of heat not snowing on the new born calves until u get them in side where the eat is xx Love watching ur video every nite . From Anne in bonnie Scotland

Darryl and I have talked about doing that exact thing. At this point, we are trying to bring the cows that we feel are the closest to calving into the barn, where it's dry and warmer. But I don't have a reason why having a lean two is a bad idea.
