• QUEEN OF THE KING FAMI...
An a cappella demonstration of a song an Atlanta mother was inspired to write the day after she learned of Mrs. King's death in 2006. When she could get no school or church choirs in the city to present the song during the period of mourning, the mother decided to sing her funeral tribute on the covered porch of the Georgia state capitol as people exited the viewing of Mrs. King's body. She sang for at least an hour. A local Fox news channel used the singing to frame a story about the event. Lyrics follow:
THE KINGS' QUEEN: A SONG FOR CORETTA SCOTT KING
(Stanza 1)
Gaze upon the queen
who marched with King
and gave her life
to him only.
Gaze upon the queen
who used to sing
and lived a life
that was holy.
(Chorus)
Coretta Scott King, our queen.
She was a peaceful warrior.
Coretta Scott King, our queen
who wore God's suit of armor.
(Stanza 2)
Gaze upon the life
of this dear wife
and mother who was royal.
Gaze upon the face
of beauty and grace.
She to the cause was loyal.
(Chorus)
Coretta Scott King, our queen.
She was a peaceful warrior.
Coretta Scott King, our queen
who wore God's suit of armor.
(Stanza 3)
Gaze upon the faith
that did not break.
She held fast to her dream.
Gaze upon God's fire
that burned inside
and in her eyes did gleam.
(Chorus)
Coretta Scott King, our queen.
She was a peaceful warrior.
Coretta Scott King, our queen
who wore God's suit of armor.

"When the roles of wife and mother are foremost in a woman's life; when she carries herself as a lady; when she advocates for full civil rights for the members of my race, I am moved to honor her. Honor, as one should a parent, but NOT worship. Worship belongs only to the Most High God. Let us never forget that." -- Janet Walker, writer
