It’s interesting to think that if House Stark got the Targareyen Bride they were promised then not only would they be related to House Baratheon but all of the Stark descendants would have a similar claim to the Iron Throne

@CommanderOfRussia1

Meh, Orys Baratheon was literally The Conquerors bastard brother so Baratheons would always have a decent claim, but a Targaryen bride would give the offspring of said bride a claim but nobody after them.
@adam_clown
@adam_clown 3 жыл бұрын
@@CommanderOfRussia1 But isn’t that how Robert Baratheon was able to “Legally” claim the Throne though? I believe his Great Grandmother of some sorts like that, was a Targaryen, so he had a claim from being a descendant of one. That is why he wanted to Kill EVERY Targaryen, not only cause he hates them, but because each one had a rightful claim to the Iron Throne before him.
@CommanderOfRussia1
@CommanderOfRussia1 3 жыл бұрын
@@adam_clown Wasn’t a very good claim though, he just needed a legal reason to rebel. It’s funny how he started the war saying he would kill every Targaryen, but used his Targaryen grandmother as his claim to the throne. He didn’t plan on sitting the throne when he first rose up in rebellion I don’t think, but after the two year war it was easiest. As to killing Targaryens because of their claim, well any king would do the same to secure his house’s rule. Robert was a badass fighter none can doubt, but beyond that he was really an idiot.

One thing to correct is 17:38 Willam Stark fell in battle but his brother Artos took command and personally slayed Raymund. Later, when the Watch arrived late, he had them clean the battlefield and burn the bodies as punishment for being late and the Lord Commander has since been known as Sleepy Jack for letting the Wildlings through in the first place

"The Northmen are rumored to have killed 3000 warriors ina day." Taken straight from spanish chronicles during the conquest of the americas. They said the Aztecs would sacrifice up to 5000 people a day there or about. They ridiculously up played the sacrifices by aztecs but still the point is, G,R,R,M knows his history and often mimics it in his tales. Think of the layout of england, Hadrens Wall to the north kept the wild pictish folk from invading the romans that moved in to the south. The romans could never quite conquer the north so they left it alone and built a wall to keep the demons covered in tattoos in the north. Alot like the wildlings. But fastforward british history to Saxon invasions and you have the first men, norman invasion and you have the Andales, the ironborn could easily be viking raiders, or irish lololol. haha. I love the history twists G.R.R.M writes.
@Lotelato
@Lotelato 6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't the Andals be the Saxons though and the first men the celts? The celts aren't native to Britain so the crossing over makes sense for the first men and the whole thing about a bunch of kingdoms being established until only seven remained is similar to the actual Saxon invasion.
@simonkemfors
@simonkemfors 6 жыл бұрын
I think the first men are supposed to be equivalent to the britons (celts), Andals are supposed to be Ango-Saxons (+ the ever forgotten Jutes), and the Targaryens being the normans. I do agree with you on the ironborn being somewhat similar to thew vikings though. To me it sort of seems like both the North and the Iron Islands share a lot in common with the Scandinavians

First of all, these videos are great! I haven't checked the timelines between this and your video on the Andals but I have a legit question or two if you ever see this! I was under the impression that it was the Andals who were slaughtering the Children in a much worse way than the First Men. The man turned by the Children against the weirwood tree in the spiral of stones had blonde hair - why would anyone indigenous to the north have blonde hair? I guess my question is, was the Night King an Andal or a Northerner? Seems strange that the Children would hate the Northerners after they adopted worship of the Weirwood trees - surely the people who were "cutting down the trees and slaughtering the Children" as said by the Child to Bran in the show were Andals and not Northerners? But then how did the Andals get that far as they never succeeded in taking the North? And was the Long Night before the Andal invasion? Anything you can say to clear this up would be great as I have a feeling the new writers for the show may never give us this kind of closure (GRR Martin didn't want a typical good vs evil story but maybe Hollywood does?)
@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 5 жыл бұрын
The show is a bit different from the books, but I will try to clarify from a book POV. The First Men were the first ones to fight a war against the Children. They killed them, took their lands and burned their trees. After 2000 years of fighting they signed a peace. The books haven't mentioned how the White Walkers were created, but if the show is accurate, then it is most likely that the children created them when they were fighting the First Men, because after they signed their peace came the Long Night, when the First Men and Children teamed together to fight them. Up to this point no Andals were in Westeros as far as we know. Many years after the White Walkers were defeated, the Andals invaded and started a war with both the children and first men. They were so ruthless the Children practically went extinct. But from the known timeline the White Walkers already existed at this point, so they most likely were made from First Men. I suggest checking out my timeline when you can, it clarifies the order of everything. :)
