You did a good thing there, when my collie died I vowed to take her to one of the high peaks that we had shared and send her off in the wind, she was the fiercest most dominant cantankerous dog I’d ever met, she could reduce any other dog to a wobbly wreck just with the ‘collie stare’ but she was my friend, and I miss her every day. Once you’ve had one that dog shaped void at your heel takes some filling. I got to the top of one of our favourite peaks and prepared to say farewell. I couldn’t get the casket open no matter how hard I tried. Cantankerous old dog had done it again! So I took her home again.

Thank you so much for taking us on this very special hike with you. What a beautiful and inspiring place to scatter Odie’s ashes 🌸 I shall attempt that same climb when I’m next in the area! I love the Lake District and I love that Odie’s ashes are in my home country - I will always associate the Lake District with lovely Odie now! 😊 🐕 You’re allowed to keep saying ‘we’ as long as you like 😉 - it’s not incorrect; you have a little bit of Odie in your necklace and all of Odie in your heart, so really you’ll always be ‘we’ and never truly alone.😘 I’m really glad to hear you’re not rushing to sell Pam. After a bereavement, it’s very common to want to draw a line in your life and change everything and almost start anew. It’s our minds’ perfectly natural way of trying to distance ourselves from the pain of what’s just happened. While it’s always a positive step to think of new goals and plan new adventures, try not to be too hasty in getting rid of things that remind you of Odie, or things that you feel are no longer useful now that he’s no longer around. After a great loss, we all tend to want to get rid of things that subconsciously we associate with the departed due to fear that keeping them will upset us or hold us back from moving on (I’m not saying at all that this is what you’re doing with Pam, this is just some general advice that may or may not be useful!). Oftentimes, after a bereavement, people regret the changes they’ve made or the things they’ve sold, given or thrown away because their state of mind has changed and their feelings aren’t so raw. While it’s natural to want to make new plans, especially ones you’d perhaps thought of previously but were unable to do due to having a dog, try delaying any final decisions or getting rid of things you won’t be able to get back for as long as possible. Changing your life too drastically or trying to keep busy with new things in order to distract yourself from the grief unfortunately rarely works, because it messes with the grieving process, causing pain to return with twice the force at a later date. So remember to take things easy - you are still grieving for a very important being in your life who left you very suddenly and big decisions that you make right now might not be the same ones you would make if you weren’t in pain or subconsciously trying to escape it. By all means make plans but try leaving them as open as possible for as long as possible, or try to factor in a ‘return button’ in case they don’t work out or you find that they’re not what you really wanted after all. Because as time begins to heal, you may well find that you want or don’t want very different things than you do right now. I guess all I’m trying to say is that, although you seem on the surface at least to be doing incredibly well, (and hopefully you actually feel that way too), do remember that you’ve just gone through this huge deal - this massive loss - so you’re still in a period of grief and readjustment, and therefore not quite your usual self. As far as possible, try not to make any big or important decisions that might be linked to Odie’s passing - or at least try avoiding ones that you won’t be able to reverse and could come to regret when the grief has eased a bit. I know you were talking about selling Pam before Odie even got sick, so I’m sure you have your reasons for that, but giving up on van life altogether, as far as I recall, wasn’t something you were thinking about back then (or perhaps you were but didn’t mention it!), so it might be a good idea not to completely slam the door on van life just yet and give yourself a little more time. Or at least maybe leave certain things in place so that you could easily return to it at a later date. All these are only suggestions, obviously, I am certainly not trying to tell you what to do! 😄 I’m simply speaking from my own (and others’) experience of bereavement - especially during those first few months - when it feels really tempting to do something completely different that has no connection to the being you’ve just lost. Often only to later realise that you only wanted to do this, stop that, get rid of these, or change things completely because, without actually realising it, you thought it might help ease the pain ... But you’re a wise young lady and have your own mind, so I’m sure you will be aware of this anyway! Hugs!! 😘😘😘 ♥️🐕🌸

Beautiful spot for Odie. I lost my Labrador Dylan 3 years ago on the 20th February 2016. I always thought that when his time came I would be older and stronger but the reality was that I was 28 with 3 children and it was the hardest time of my life. I still shed tears for him. Odie had the best life a dog could ever wish for xx

What a lovely, poetic place to scatter Odie's ashes. You gave him the best life a dog could hope for. Who knows what new adventures await you with Pam? I wish you healing, beauty and - only when you're ready - another faithful companion. We have this slang expression in the States right now - to "feel all the 'feels.'" It means to experience laughter and sadness and whatever else may come. There is beauty in grief because it marks the place where this wonderful little life touched yours. It's okay to "feel all the 'feels.'" You'll get through it. More love, beauty and adventure awaits around the corner. Keep on truckin'!

What a great spot for Odie's Ashes. You can also easily return there if it calls you. Though you carry a bit of him with you always. So, very pleased to hear that your PAM adventures will continue for now. You bring joy to my day when I watch them. I am not able to travel at the moment, so am living through your adventures. Question: Would it be possible for you to add a link for a book when you mention it? An Amazon link for the UK is nice, but if you could also do one for the USA, would be much appreciated. I tend to have to make substantial buys on US Amazon and if I put your item in the cart it might generate a bit of income for you too. But, that book looks like a fascinating read and it is a pity that if we buy it, you will not benefit from the mentioning of it. Thanks for returning to sharing the beauty of the world around you. Safe travels!

Wow, thank you for taking us on the beautiful hike. I knew , jusr before you spoke the words, why you were there. You know , keeping the van. Aren’t you “holding space”, as the phrase goes. It is an energetic phrase. In other words, isn ‘t there a place for whatever the universe wishes to bring you or for whatever you may want or perhaps need next, whatever that may be. It seems that it would be so easy for another 4 legged companion to enter. Or lokingnat it slightly differently, you have more space in your life for something, it may be an activity , or time to pursue an interest. It is your saga. Your golden chapters. Quest and soar from your heart always.

We did the Old Man last year. Lovely walk. I shall say hi to Odie when we go back later in the year. Did you get a look at my hike up Loch Ben on my last upload? You would love it.
