For a group trying to stay invisible while manipulating others to war, the Shadows flying around in GIGANTIC SPIDER SHAPED SHIPS makes little sense. They could just as easily use regular ships for recon.

@@PassportBrosBusinessClass Regular ships could be tracked. Their ships are difficult to see, focus on, or track. Also at this point they are in the midst of probing attacks, not just recon.

The character of Warren Keffer was added at the insistence of some network exec who wanted a cocky Starbuck/Han Solo-type pilot on the show. Straczynski created the part but he was in only 6 episodes, only rarely interacted with the main characters, and was killed off as soon as Straczynski felt he had the clout to do so.

But by that same token he did kill the character off in a way that was meaningful to the overall story. Versus what happened to Denise Crosby in TNG...

Frederick Lantze, the character played by Roy Dotrice, is based on former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. Roy Dotrice plays this role extremely well with his character's naive optimism and his stupid policy of appeasement toward the Centauri, which only serves the interests of the Shadows. When I first watched this episode, I watched with frustration how idiotic and ill-conceived his approach was. This showed how skilled of an actor Roy Dotrice was. The parallels between his character and Neville Chamberlain were stunning. A policy of appeasement never works. If you give bullies what they want, they are just going to victimize someone else. They even include a reference to Chamberlain with the line "We will, at last, know peace in our time."
