The opening to the next episode with Susan dealing with what just happened was one of the most heart wrenching things put in a series

He dies to save the woman he Loves. Marcus knew there was no other way, so he did what he had to do. Poor Ivanova woke up to this, no wonder she reacted the way she did. She never got the chance to show him, physically, how she felt. Worse, this is the one and only time he ever told her he loved her...

heartbreaking...one of the many reasons why this show is still the best science fiction shows ever. His love for her..unrequited and pure

I watched this series for the first time about 5 years ago. I have been re-watching this series recently and I barely remember this even happening, but man, it hit hard this time. I never considered myself an "I love Marcus" kind of person, but as soon as he chose to give up his life for Susan, it hit me. I'm such a sap for that, and the fact that it was unrequited and could never really be made it all the more painful (and gallant.)

This was one of the most heart wrenching moments in this show. Babylon five was ahead of its time . Frankly I wish we had a machine like this use it to heal good people and victims of crimes by giving them the life force of criminals I guarantee the crime rates will go down fast

I LOVED the Marcus character. So sorry that they killed him off. But if they had to - it was perfect the way they did it.

Yeah.....he finds out she's going to die, decides "THIS SHALL NOT BE." and DOES something about it., knowing full well that in an age of miracles and wonders, there might ..just MIGHT be a way. And he didn't freaking hesitate.

Well, at least she hadn't had an irreversible total donation of her viable organs while you were recuperating. Poor Susan had to wake up to that essentially. Cripes man, Marcus couldn't have just cracked some Night Watch nut on the head to use in his place?
@AuroraXA3 жыл бұрын
@@mnomadvfx Had Marcus done that, it would not have meant nearly as much as it did. Taking someone else's life to save someone you love, or giving yourself whole-heartedly for them? No contest there.

Just saw this for the first time on my first true watch right through. I've seen clips of Marcus since I was a kid. I never knew he died. Saw the episode last night and I've been back multiple times today just processing it. It's such an awesome and heartbreaking moment.

"The process is irreversible." Actually, no, it's quite reversible, as that serial killer found out when he tried to siphon life from the mom from "Lost in Space".
@Alknix4 жыл бұрын
He meant that the "life force" taken cannot be replenished naturally - the serial killer did die in that episode from being drained.

Augh, this gave me so many romantic misconceptions as a child. The idea is that to show affection I must do so with a *grand gesture of love.*
@beta_cygni19502 жыл бұрын
But if you watched the series, thats not what he did at all. He was simply there for her. Thats how he showed his love. This wasn't "one big grand gesture". That implies he never showed his love for her before, which he did numerous times through small gestures.

If I had a nickel for every time a dark haired man with a British accent sacrificed his life for the woman he loved by exchanging his life energy into her... I'd have two nickels. But it's weird that it happened twice! Don't flame me for making a Rise of Skywalker joke, I'm not interested in hearing that.

Still a better love story than 'Twilight'...
@mnomadvfx3 жыл бұрын
Well obviously. Not even close. On one hand you have Babylon 5. The ultimate tragic love story of Susan and Marcus. They never truly express their feelings for each other until right at the end. Then one of them is critically injured in a battle, and the other dies to keep the her alive - all while continuing to express his love with his dying breaths. On the other hand you have Twilight. Essentially a very bad fan fiction of a vampire love story. No one the protagonists care about die - not a single person. The protagonist gets her man AND to become a vampire. Even the unexpected bonus of a child, which neatly counters the sole major objection to her becoming a vampire. A child she barely needs to care for no less and grows to term in days. Not to mention the very thing which made her interesting to the vampire in the first place becomes a full on vampire superpower which saves them all at the end..... Oh and did I mention that she doesn't have a trace of the control problem every other vampire in the book has when reborn? It's a full female fantasy wish fulfillment gig. She gets to have her cake, eat it, wish it back into being and eat it again and again. Just never mind the extremely disturbing paedophilia vibes over the Jake/Renesmee thing. Or the extreme emotional dependency, mental instability (schizophrenia) and emotional blackmail issues involved in Bella and Edward's relationship. On both sides. Seriously if Stephanie Meyer has any children I would worry for them. I mean a lot. Really a lot. They do say write what you know. If that's true for Meyer then I'd be thinking of Marion Zimmer Bradley - what she wrote about in her most famous novel and what her children went through in real life.
