Let's be real though. Picard would not have put them in the brig, he would have confined them both to quarters.

As barbaric as the Klingons are (at least on comparison to other races), they do make a clear distinction between "honorable death/killing" and outright murder. For two warriors, each trained, equally armed and capable, consenting to a duel over honor is one thing. It is comparable to the times when Europeans, Brits and even Colonial Americans would fight and duel over severe insults, threats and so forth. And most certainly something Celtics did as well, sometimes in lieu of outright warfare. But to kill an unarmed person, poison someone, to attack someone with a weapon and without consent, is not considered honorable at all. That is considered "murder". Even in war, Klingons were known to show mercy and respect. In short, episodes like this showed that, as violent and brutal as some aspects of Klingons are, they still have laws, ethics, morals. They are different but they exist nonetheless. Star Trek excelled at showing how most alien villains were usually villains amongst their own people or simply had a very different outlook on life due to their culture. It took brilliant writing and imagination. It's most enjoyable.

Every decision the brass, and Jellico made in this episode was a set up for failure. I'm not sure if it was intentional, incompetence, or some combination of the two.

You have to admire Garaks modesty. He said "you may have just saved". What he really should have said is "I may have just saved". Sisko was a dithering, moralizing patsy. Garak was the true man of action.

Kurn had Laforge and his team working meaningless double shifts for pointless inspections all just to troll Worf and everyone loves him... Jellico is thrown into a crisis situation, to prevent a war or prepare for one failing that... without any time for a shakedown cruise or even getting to pick his crew. "Like most Captains get to so..hell even Picard got to pick Worf and Crusher for his covert mission"..he prevents the war and gets Picard back but everyone pretends to care about shift rotations just to grind an ax. As if this was a "perfect world " situation. Jellico proves just how much people apply morality to someone just based on if they like them or not ..not actually rooted in anything other than bias.

Data: Geordi, my analysis shows it is possible to do what the Captain is requesting. Jellico: Thanks Data. Geordi, get it done. Geordi: But I don't want to tell other departments they are being shut down on power! They'll get mad and be mad at me! And I need to relax on the holodeck to meet my holo-girlfriend, I can't afford to be working double shifts! How can you do this to me!

The way the Breen talk with everyone else reminds me of one of the many speech-vs-noise exchanges you see in Star Wars, but this sort of thing is quite rare in Star Trek. The only other example I can think of is Voyager's "Warhead" episode with the bleeping device talking to the Doctor.

The more I watch Jelico the more I think what was so unreasonable about what he said or did. Yes he added more duties and shorted the time to get things done. Jelico is where he is, shortly to be an admiral because he gets things done. He was quite happy on the Carlo. His crew was used to his command style. I need everyone to their jobs to the best of thier abilities. Starfleet is not a Carribean sight seeing cruise. It is dangerous and wondrous. Something Q tried to explain. Jelico under Netchev worked a lot of Black Ops. He knows of threats no one on the Enterprise does, first. Jelico didn't complain about the transfer. He set to work. Prepare for a war footing. That's going to be much harder as officers go down and you work multiple shifts. Sick injured but at your post, no sleep. You'll wish you only had double your previous workload. Four shifts are shorter shifts but allows for more trained officers per post in case of injuries. Also fresher. Jelico is much more top down I'm the boss do as you are told. Picard is more a father figure. You aren't children. You weren't shanghaid or pressed into the fleet. You studied and worked like mad to graduate with high enough graded to not only make it to Star fleet but deep space assignments. In this case the flag ship. Maybe start as junior officers, transfer to higher posting aboard a non flagship and return as senior officer. So Jelico was right. Ship up or ship out. Give me everything till you drop so if a war starts we can go home victorious and alive.

So Picard broke under torture. The Federation and Star Fleet were too soft. Now given that he broke to the Cardassians and the Borg, became Borg how the hell did he maintain any kind of security clearance? He should have been given a medical discharge from Star fleet. He needs to be isolated the rest of his life. He knows far too much and will spill his guts when pushed. Why didn't Picard have a cyanide capsule? Death before capture. Perhaps it's because Picard omited the truth in his report. Seems to me Picard reemed out a cadet about lies of omission. Not saying Picard needs to be locked up, but live out his days in a remote uninhabited moon.

Arguably the best episode? Terry Quinn’s a phenomenal actor. He carried Lost when it got stupid. As for Adm Pressman, he’s right - you can’t hand your greatest adversary a tactical advantage. The metaphasic cloak is beautiful, it’s breathtaking - nice to see someone at Starfleet thinking proactively.

The metaphasic cloak. Total game-changer, but goodie-goodie Starfleet has to be the galactic doormat. Why would you allow yourself to be hobbled like how the Treaty of Algeron did? 🙄

The treaty of Algeron was a very illogical course for the Federation to take simply because they could've easily defeated the Romulans. Given the strategic advantage it bestows upon a starship to spy and fight the Federation would have had an advantage by sheer size of inhabitants, starships, technology and access to resources. Logically the Federation would want a cloaking device that's even better. That way you establish a peace with an aggressive species through strength, military weakness only invites violence and invasion. Roddenberry screwed the pooch when writing that storyline. Following the canon timeline by the time we get to the Founders invasion of the alpha quadrant and they also have cloaking tech well then the Federation is looking like they are being led by incompetent leaders.
