The main idea of this project is show how I would make some changes to a sports bucket seat. As you can see the metallic frame has not been altered, not at all. I only have made some changes on the central foamed cushions to get a different look. The countour or shape of the seat remains the same.
By doing some drawings on rough over the backrest foam and bottom seat foam at least you could conceive and foresee how the final job would be.
It is not only important the design but how the parts would be fastened to the seat frame to give the desired shape and that should be done beforehand. For that purpose I have added some metallic fasteners.
Basically, this first video shows a first step that consists in having ready the seat for the next step that would be to prepare the molds following the marked lines (black and blue) that resemble/imitate the three well known kind of sewings: 'standard blind sewing', 'over sewing/flat felled seam', and 'double stitches/french seams'.
In advance, I would tell you the bucket seat will be thoroughly covered in automotive leather (plain and perforated).

Solamente le puedo decir que las técnicas básicas de tapicería son las mismas que se aplican a lo mas simple y a lo que parezca mas complicado. Anímese a poner su taller. Todo es lo mismo, no hay mucha ciencia que aprender. Todo esta inventado hace muchos años. No es nada. ¡Bienvenido al canal! De mañana a pasado estaremos publicando el video 2 que mostrará la hechura de los cojines centrales tanto de la base como el respaldo. Van a ser tapizados en cuero/piel color tinto perforado y liso para los costados. El video ya debería estar publicado de nos ser porque andaba un poco ocupado resolviendo unos asuntos particulares...una disculpa.

Seguro que este vídeo va a ser muy interesante y útil para todos los que quieren tapizar este tipo de asientos! :-) Justo ahora estoy preparando un vídeo sobre un asiento muy parecido, en mi caso de la marca APC, que también he tapizado en piel, y me costó bastante esfuerzo debido a esas formas tan complicadas... cuando usted ha quitado la tapicería he visto que varía un poco la forma en que se sujetan las diferentes piezas al armazón, pero su asiento y el mío son en esencia prácticamente iguales. A ver si tengo un rato y acabo la edición del vídeo, y lo subo a youtube, para que así vea usted el resultado de mi asiento. Esto ha sido, como dicen en estados unidos, "perfect timing"! :-)

Si es un poco complicado sacar los moldes de este tipo de asientos considerando las formas redondeadas e irregulares. Podríamos decir que si es necesario agregar ciertos 'insertos' que ayudarían a moldear ciertas partes con mas facilidad y evitar pliegues o arrugas en esas zonas.

Sí, en mi caso me limité a hacer en piel las mismas formas que el asiento original, pero si hubiese tenido que hacer la tapicería sin tener una plantilla, lo habría tenido bastante más complicado para evitar las arrugas! :-)

Dob Cesar, Used hace muy buen trabajo. Una pregunta, usted mencioba que para modificar los asientos debe hacer mas incertos. Cuanto usted marca el aciento para Cortes. Como determina el nuevo modelo? Se puede modificar al gusto, solo insertando nueva esponja?

Esimado Mac, cuando menciono 'insertos' me refiero al moldeado del asiento para obtener su funda o forro. Quiero decir que sería imposible lograrlo de una sola pieza y muy difícil en dos piezas como mínimo, debido a que la superficie es muy irregular. Entonces nos veremos obligados a hacerle cortes y varias piezas que luego ensamblamos con las costuras. En el caso del video, estamos trabajando sobre la espuma que ya está lista y lo que estamos modificando es simplemente es una forma diferente de hacer las piezas para obtener una nueva funda. A esta misma espuma se le puede aumentar o quitar para obtener una nueva forma. El marco de tubo metálico y añadiduras, tiene mucho que ver también. Esta estructura metálica vendría a ser el 'alma' del modelo que va a sostener al 'cuerpo' de espuma/esponja.

Otra pregunta Cesar, si dibujo las piezas en el foam. Tal cual, acomodando a la forma (modoficada), tolerancia de costura. Se puede modificar el tipo de costura con poco margen de error. Si usted le aplica French sewn a las partes de centro. Es mucha la tolerancia? Tiene que compensar por cada costura y el grosor de la esponja?

¿Mas o menos que tipo de modificaciones desea hacer en este tipo de asientos? Hay modificaciones simples que se hacen al asiento sin modificar su estructura metálica o el cuerpo de espuma. El tapicero lo que haría es trabajar sobre el mismo 'cuerpo de espuma moldeado' y hacerle diferentes figuras que pueden ser rombos, líneas verticales, horizontales, etc. cada quien a su idea. Usando el mismo 'esqueleto metálico' se podría hacer ligeras modificaciones al 'cuerpo de espuma'. Esta 'espuma moldeada' ha sido inyectada en un molde para darle esa forma. Si nosotros quisiéramos hacer un nuevo modelo parecido/modificado, implicaría fabricar nuevos moldes y tener la máquina inyectora. Lo que yo hago en el video es el uso de un método artesanal para hacerle ciertas modificaciones al diseño original y en cierto modo, mejorar la apariencia final. Esperemos que así sea. Si está en mis posibilidades, con mucho gusto le puedo dar algunas ideas.

Si dibuja las piezas sobre la espuma está bien. Lo que tendría que hacer es reproducir cada pieza para obtener el molde (puede usar cartulina o vinil para moldear) La tolerancia se agregará a cada molde y es la misma para todas las clases de costuras. La tolerancia puede ser de 1/2 pulgada ó 1 cm . Si las piezas se acolchonan con espuma delgada de 3 mm o 5 mm no sería notorio el cambio que si lo hiciera con hule espuma de 1/2 pulg. de grosor. Para este diseño voy a usar espuma de 5 mm. Este 'lining' es importante para 'borrar' irregularidades de la superficie de espuma moldeada y sirve para darle mas forma a nuestro 'funda/cover'.

Hello Pawel, I will show some of these procedures in a next video. In fact, at first sight this design looks a little complicated. I could say there is a mixture of flat parts and rounded (concave/convex) parts. We should start out modelling from the flat parts to the rounded ones where some creases would be formed. The flat part would remain flat with no problem and the part with the folds sould be cut off to give shape to that area. As you can see at the beginning of this video (original cover) there are many inserts which were made on purpose to disguise the folds which would have been formed if not for them. I have done the same but I have put inserts in a different position to get a different design. Always the inserts are smaller. I could say the inserts help to give shape to irregular surfaces. If not for them I would have had to stretch/force the material to get the desired shape.

Hi thank you very much for your information Cechaflo , I'll wait for you next video to lear more of it. I started to rebuild covers of my old car. There are plenty of rounded parts, which I didn't know how to cut them properly. I thought to take the old fabric off and make measurments of it, but after I did it I noticed that parts I cut were to big. After I made a stitches there were a lot of extra material, which didn't fit to the surface of the chair. I tryied to self yourself by using baste/tack method to get rid off extra material, but unfortunatelly without satisfatied sucess. Chair looks better than before, because of new fabric, but shape is not as should look like.

I think it would not have been necessary to buy an expensive seat for one time upholstery demonstration. I only wanted the body (frame and foam) of the seat, its cover was discarded. After finishing this project in leather, the seat would one more collectible item in my shop. BTW this seat cost me 150 USDollars in Auto Zone.
