The newest video in my editor reacts to series. This week I'm watching and reacting to Game of Thrones for the first time.
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros' northern border.
Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) generated controversy. The final season received significant criticism for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.

8:49 Despite its deplorable state, Harrenhal is still very important, the riverlands are located in the middle of Westeros, bordering the north, the Vale, the westerlands, the Iron Islands and the Crown lands where King's Landing is located, in a war the riverlands are the key to victory, and Harrenhal despite its status and the largest castle in the riverlands in addition to being able to guard an army and is located in a strategically perfect place, whether to attack, defend or retreat

3:30 Giving independence to the seven kingdoms would be a big mistake, before Aegon the Conqueror arrived in Westeros there were Seven Kingdoms fighting and disputing over borders and small victories, destroying progress in a cycle of endless war, certainly the Targaryen Dynasty had its ups and downs, but apart from the bloody events the kingdom prospered, times of peace came, Even during the reign of the Mad King there was peace, despite his insanity causing terror throughout the Kingdom. The real and bloody confrontation of his reign was Robert's Rebellion, Just as the confrontation of Roberth's reign was the Greyjoy Rebellion, now imagine if everyone returned to independence, seven kings fighting for selfish ideas, a united kingdom is problematic, but seven divided would be even more.

1:01:50 "Only smothering or starvation will put it out." It's implied that the wildfire in the Battle of the Blackwater starved... that is, it raged until it had nothing solid left to consume.

Dragon Glass is better known IRL as Obsidian. It is a natural form of glass created by extreme heat. In the real world, that pretty much means volcanoes, but in Westeros, that means dragon fire.

When you get to season 5 histories and lore stop at 52:46 from there to the end of it is all how House of the Dragon plays out. So you don't want to spoil it.

the thing was if robert baratheon let the 7 kingdoms become their own and not under his rule it would go back to chaos where there was always war between the kingdoms, it would of been even harder to stop the iron born, under targeryon there were brief periods of peace the longest was 80 years, and the conflicts were usually between the targeryons and outside the the 7 kingdoms fighting pirates, but once the dragons died there was more civil wars and rebellions until eventually their end

Spliting up the country isn't as simple as your making out to be. The North makes up most of the country, the Reach is the farm lands, est. If Robert were to let them all just split apart it would cause other issues and war.

Plus, it is excessively rare in history for any government/dynasty to voluntarily surrender land or power. Even in systems with partiable inheritance, typically one or two generations (or less) down the line, someone is trying to reunite their ancestor's larger territory. It's kind of why the Ottomans had that 'last man in the harem standing" system--to mitigate internal coups.

2:10, the show doesn't mention it, but Thoros of Myr was a pretty regular character in the first book, taking part in the melee at the Hand's tourney(which Robert was convinced not to take part in and it was hinted by Varys that Robert would have been killed at Cersei's orders there, trying to deem it an accident). His flaming sword is just a sword dipped in wildfire and set on fire(at least, at this point...) You are wise, it might have been smarter for him to return some of them to power. But the Tyrell's weren't kings, they were stewards for House Gardener before it was torched at the Field of Fire. The Tully's were never kings(and the last king of the Riverlands died without heirs against the Ironborn). The Lannisters were way too ambitious, the Greyjoys whole culture using the "old way"is just murder, raiding and rape and it took over a hundred years to get the Dornish to join the Seven Kingdoms(and they had regularly border wars with the Stormlands and the Reach). It was better that they unite under Robert or someone else(Robert of the books insists he didn't want it and he said that either Jon or Ned should have taken it. He had the best claim, given he had Targaryen blood(Orys, the first of the Baratheon's, was suggested to be a bastard brother to the Conqueror and Roberts own grandmother was a Targaryen), but as Renly says in the books, Robert won the war with strength at arms, which was Renly's plan). Robert never warred for the Throne. He warred for Lyanna. In the books, it's not exactly confirmed, but Ser Amory Lorch(who is left as castellan after Tywin leaves)dies soon after being betrayed and the one who betrays him, a sellsword named Vargo Hoat, dies not long after and many think its Harren's curse. Won't go further than book 2 though, as thats about where you've reached! Harrenhal was the one that Tywin had taken over and Arya was a prisoner within. 26:31 Yes, its suggested that because dragons returned to the world, magic that was dead or weak has now returned. They mention glass candles in the part with the warlocks(they're made from obsidian/dragonglass(which cannot be lit on fire)and they're usually used as a test for the Maesters to show that even they don't know everything by having them try and light them, only to fail.) The wildfire production of Kings Landing is said to be made far easier than they did once(there was apparently some left over from the Mad Kings time, but Tyrion is staggered by how much is being produced, with the head Pyromancer saying in the times of dragons, the magic was far more powerful.) 26:39 "Three heads?" The three headed dragon is the sigil of House Targaryen(symbolizing Aegon and his two sisters). She has three dragons. 29:01 Sadly, we don't get much of Pentos again(remember, Dany and Viserys were guests of Magister Illyrio, who returns in the books, but not the show). In the books, he sends Dany three ships to bring her back to Pentos, but they had her kill Xaro and take his wealth instead here. There's a character named "the Tattered Prince"who is a Pentoshi mercenary who was nearly voted as Prince of Pentos, but refused it(as he didn't like the bad luck of dying if the weather went wrong), with him planning to take Pentos with an army. The story of the Night King(and the lady from the Others) is said to be a myth by GRRM, so don't put too much stock in that.

Well... about Jon, not exactly. The Free Folks considers the Starks as their blood relatives because of an old and absolutely nice and not at all creepy story about a free folk bard and a Stark princess. Quite the romantic story for the wildlings, but the Starks remember it a little bit differently...

im pretty sure magic became weaken when the last dragon died, and became stronger when the dragons were again born into the world, even the alchemist were surprised because wildfire was many more times more powerful even though they had always used the same recipe, they even mention that it was only this strong when the last dragon was alive
