I am in no sense a professional reader, voice actor, or what have you. I began this audiobook project some years ago when some friends of mine jokingly said they'd read A Song of Ice and Fire (my favorite fantasy series) if I personally recorded the whole series in audiobook form and sent it to them. Having now made my way almost through the first two books in the series, I decided to join the small community of people who post their own amateur audibook readings to youtube, and share my efforts.
I have no intention of profiting off of the work that is copyrighted to George RR Martin. This upload is a tribute to a series I deeply love, and I strongly encourage you to purchase these books. You won't regret it.
Also I should give full credit to my cat, Claudio, for the frequent background meows and purring sounds you hear throughout.

“My faddah is Lahd Selwyn of Taaahth” 🤣 I literally LOL’d when I heard that. But once again, even though I would never in a million years have imagined *that* accent for Brienne, it actually works quite well. The way you do her voice, it’s easy to see how someone might write Brienne off as a dumb jock. I continue to be impressed by the way you manage to put a fresh, distinctive spin on the text. Different from how I read in my head, different from the GOT actors, different from Dotrice’s reading. Your take on a lot of the lesser characters seems a bit cartoonish and over-the-top, but I actually really like that! You have so much talent!

Bostonian might've made more sense where there are some rather wealthy areas where people maintain thick old-school Boston accents which nobody seems to have from as little as 10-15 miles away. I don't think that's the case in NYC/NJ

Ha! Claudio was a complete RASCAL during this recording, but this microphone I got a couple weeks ago seems to be more sensitive to the direction of the sound than the iPhone I used to be recording this on. So he had to make a real effort, climbing all over, knocking things to the floor, to get near the mic and say hello to all my leal men and loyal retainers listening in. Jaime is also a favorite of mine! One of my top 5 POV characters, alongside Cersei, Theon, Sansa, and Brienne.

@@DavidReadsASoIaF Based on how loud and persistent he was, I figured it must be nearing his dinnertime! My top 5 POVs are the same! Except that Daenerys bumps Theon, though I do love his chapters. Just my personal opinion-- but I think that Brienne would sound more similar to your Catelyn voice. Especially since she's frequently noted as sounding "high born" (and boston is kinda the opposite of that lol)

Thank you! I was more thinking "big palooka from Brooklyn" but I have to own up to the fact that it's not a very precise accent. My normal approach of doing feminine voices (slightly quieter and higher pitched or screechy old lady/monty python guy in drag) just didn't seem right for Brienne.

@@DavidReadsASoIaF I might try some of your other videos sometime. I only listened to a minute or so because I want realism and grit from ASOIAF, which is a mere personal preference. But in that small sample it is already obvious that you can give a story more characterisation than most of the flat-tone audiobook readers on YT.

When I watched G O T, I thought that catlyn was annoying but the more I listened to this book the more I realised just how selfish and self serving she was. She literally caused the death of her husband (by encouraging him to go to kings landing) She kidnapped the Imp thus starting the war, She then gave away her sons captive without thinking about anyone else! TBF she should have had her head cut off for that!

more things to add .. Ned gave her clear instructions to prepare for war..he isn't good at politicking but Cersei would've slapped his son on baelors if northern army was seen moving south. she persuaded Robb to give command of the second army to roose Bolton instead of great John .{ It could've been karstarks or manderley If not umber ...roose put stark loyalists in dangerous positions to get rid of them ) she raised sansa like tully . John would've been great help Robb in war of 5 kings
