The issue I originally had with gear 5 was how it built up to be like the typical shonen endgame power up, were it turned out the main character was destined to be the saviour. But the moment I saw Luffys silhouette on the moon with the line “it’s the worlds most ridiculous power” I was sold.

When you were saying G5 in the beginning of the video I thought you were talking about Smoker's Marine branch and I was confused. But I think one of the most unintentionally funny parts of OP is when Zunesha shows up and is like "Oh my god I've waited 800 years for your return. I've been walking so long and finally I can fulfill my purpose. I'm so overjoyed" Momo: "Not yet" Zunesha: "Okay byeee"
@IceAokiji3032 ай бұрын
To the people who think Gear 5 is an ass-pull: There's this one guy who goes by The Drawk Show online. He got his mom, who is a teacher, to read One Piece. Mama Drawk clocked Luffy's sun imagery as early as East Blue (want to say Arlong Park), and specifically called him being a sun god in Little Garden. She did think it'd manifest in some way _not_ related to his devil fruit, so not 100% on point, but still a frightening amount of foresight. Or perhaps a lot of foreshadowing and someone with good media analysis skills! Hard to take it as an asspull when someone can start predicting it that far in advance.

How did she get luffy being a sun god at little garden? Cause she read ahead?
@IceAokiji303Ай бұрын
@@nathandanczak7822 You'd have to watch through to see her full reasoning, but: It's the excess of sun imagery associated with Luffy the whole way through, the way the Little Garden giants talk about their own god, and a bunch of other small details that got her thinking "gods are in some way literal in this world, Luffy's eventually going to be a god, and with all the sun imagery he's probably a sun god". Funny enough her original thought of "they talk about the god of Elbaf as if he's a living being on their island" that got her on this track is probably _not_ accurate and just reading too much into specific phrasing, so she likely made a wrong prediction that prompted her to make a correct one half on accident. She also in the same predicted "Devil Fruits can't make people gods" and "Usopp will never be a god", so there's a lot of misses in with the hits too. (Actually thinking more, I don't remember if she connected the "Luffy's a god of some kind" and "Luffy is the sun" theories yet at that point or whether they remained separate thoughts for a bit, but definitely soon after.)
@alucard34718 күн бұрын
I think the big issue isnt that it want foreshadowed or didnt make sense, but that the finals stretch was rushed. Oda gave us small hints throughout the story, ans then dropped a bonb by naming nika, stating in the same breath that Luffy's fruit is weird and wanted by the government, which immediately tossed to thw garbage bin all the nuance amd small bits of foreshadoing peppered throughout the story. If the name drop for nika was done with more tact, i think many of the issues would have been resolved. But to me, it feels like oda realized too late that he didn't make it obvious enough to the audience what is going on, so he tried to infodump us to make it coherent, and in the process made the reveal less impactful than it could have been.

I don't know if this comment will be read, but since you mention loving the "Story about Stories" aspect of Wano, I cannot stop myself from recommending "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" to you -- preferably the webnovel or e-book (there are some slight differences between both, but nothing that changes the story too dramatically), rather than the webtoon, but the webtoon does do its job of adapting it well enough, though some nuance is lost, especially since, in my opinion, it's a story that works best in the purely written form, as a novel. If you do come across this comment, even if there's no interest from people or you in covering your journey through it on this channel, I sincerely hope you read it, since I consider it an amazing love letter to AND deconstruction of stories and tropes. I've enjoyed watching your One Piece journey, since it is also one of my favorite stories, and I'm excitedly awaiting your Egghead review.

I think we’ll get more of Kaido’s backstory when Oda delves into the Rocks’ pirates and God Valley. There are pieces which inform Kaido’s worldview which may have spoiled other elements of the story had they been revealed in Wano. As a result, I believe Oda made the choice to save that information for later. I imagine the choices which lead to the collapse of the Rocks’ Pirates at God Valley will help to recontextualize Big Mom, Kaido, and Whitebeard.

Recently found out that the Kinemon fake-out deaths are actually a joke about Kabuki theatre in which deaths are frequently hammed up and exaggerated with characters often “dying” multiple times. Just a suggestion to "how to handle the weekly review problem". I think an appropriate way that would fit your channel (imo) could be that you upload a video here and there when you have the feeling there is/or there are chappter(s) that have content to talk about and dive into themes. that could be a weekly basis sometimes but also several weeks or months, depending on the chapters content. Anyway, i think we all respect how YOU decide to deal with that kind of content in the future, i would also like to see the VODs from twitch - since i'm from germany i don't have time to participate your livestreams. To listen to your jorney through One Pice was and still is really fun for me. Will you check out "The One Piece" (Remake) of the anime in the future or is that something you don't care about?

#AJPiece The reason I’m more OK with the idea of Tama’s power is because it’s directly referencing the Momotaro story, where a boy feeds dango to some animals and they become his friends. Then he goes to challenge an Oni. I don’t know if mods will delete this as this is a bit of Post-Wano SBS but I think this is important to Wano’s future. (Mods delete if necessary) Regarding Tama, in a flashback regarding her near the end of Wano, we see her at her parents’ graves. On the graves people who knew Japanese said the graves looked like they said Kurozumi, which would mean Tama is a Kurozumi (which was already theorized as she has purple hair like Orochi). Someone asked this in an SBS and Oda indeed confirmed that Tama is a Kurozumi, which I think is meant to serve as breaking the Kurozumi hatred cycle. If the people of Wano know she’s just a kid who has nothing to do with Orochi and just genuinely wants to make people happy, and is only using her powers for good, then this in the future could mark a turn for the people of Wano when it comes to forgetting the grudges of the past. Even Oda said this at the end of that answer, “I hope the people of Wano can accept her when they find out.”

Personally how i see the Carrot situation is an amalgam of bits and pieces regarding Pedro the Minks and their relationship to the Kozuki Yes she might not be a leader yet but she has something the others don't and she can grow into one in the future She started her journey to see the wonders of the world and in that short she spent with the crew, grew to learn and inherit Pedro's Will '' Everyone has their time to shine '' And Pedro being avenged by Neko while Carrot was powerless(tho due to unluckiness with the moon being shrouded). It's frustrating, and that frustration can be a jump forward to growth. Momo decided to postpone the opening of the borders and he is kinda similar to Carrot in the sense that they're still young and unsure of the position they're in Tho Momo is the one wanting to become Shogun he also doesn't have the option to waste what his parents wished for him and for Wano When smn like Carrot received it with reticence. Before being reminded of Pedro's will to help Luffy someday Both clans having a century years old bond as their goal aims towards opening Wano's borders and help the one who'll be the next Joyboy In that sense i feel like both sides 1re learning to grow and become reliable ppl in the near future.

Luffy was not predestined to become a simbol of liberation, rather he was entrusted with that journey becouse of his ambition, and he had to reach this point with his own strength. Shank's sacrifices (and his grampa's trainning) only helped Luffy to get to the statting line of a race that so many others have lost, so we should not get hangged up on words like "destiny" when so many people have worked to give this kid an opportunity.

To me Wano is the first arc that doesn't live up to its full potential. There was a lot of set up for things that ultimately didn't amount to much. The Big Mom pirates, Marco's role (specially how he kinda just shows up, same with Jinbei), the dinamic of the flying six going after the all stars, Drake, the numbers, the shape shifting fox, etc. Also to this day I find it odd the way Oda killed off Kaido and Big Mom (Luffy never even really landed a hit on her)

The problem with G5 and the Nika fruit is they undermine a lot of Luffys journey because of how he was always fated to become the reincarnation of a literal god, at complete odds with the pirate ideal of carving your destiny with your own hands like Roger, Whitebeard, Ace and Kaidou did for example. Not to mention its like suddenly Haki, training and abilities dont matter in fights because he can also just bend reality to his whims in every single one now.
@Aleczandxr2 ай бұрын
It doesn’t undermine a thing about Luffy. I’m not sure why in shonen people all of a sudden think that some sort of destiny completely undercuts the value and agency of all of the characters actions. Compatibilism exists.

Is it fun to intentionally misread the material? He’s not a god, he’s not a reincarnation, he’s not invincible, he can’t bend reality. Also, if we agree that Luffy and Joyboy shared an awakened Nika fruit then why do you think there’s no tension anymore? Joyboy failed, he left an apology for failing, Luffy can fail too.
@titoleon31012 ай бұрын
@@Aleczandxr Because its lazy, cheap and tired by this point, the old faithful a shonen author pulls when they dont know how to justify giving his mc more powers to beat the big bad. @@TehZergRush The Joyboy parallels were fine until they became linked to the Nika thing, because now its like Luffy was always fated to succeed him by mere coincidence instead of earning that inheritance through who he is and what he does. He didnt need it. It goes against his character itself.

Sorry but no, I’m not interested in doing that. This review structure is unsustainable for me and after One Piece I’m not doing it for any other series in a consistent manner in this way. If you want my thoughts and reviews on the Bleach arcs you can follow me on Twitch where I read and give them every week, and you can check out my previous VODs on Patreon if you’re interested in previous thoughts. We’re currently still only just past halfway through the series so nows a great time to jump in!

I didn't like Wano, and think it has many major and minor issues that casual fans generally ignore because they want to like One Piece, and give Oda too much credit. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. ☕

Such a backhanded comment lmao. “The reason people don’t share my opinion is because they’re dishonest” like alright bro your input is not as important as u think it is 😭
@PhantomGreyfire2 ай бұрын
@@Kanemakii I worded that a bit poorly, I didn't mean to imply that all people who like Wano are being dishonest about their opinions, I don't think most are. And certainly not AJ. That said, my comment wasn't a complement at all, backhanded or otherwise. It was more of a lamentation of the fact that I didn't like Wano even though I wanted to, that was sad for me, so I was happy to see that there are at least people like AJ who genuinely enjoy Wano as a whole. It was a more general comment about how different people value different elements of a story to different degrees, and how a predisposition to wanting to like a story (perhaps because one has liked it for a long time) can sometimes make it easier not to notice flaws in that story.

@@PhantomGreyfire ah i get it, glooks for clearing that up. i still disagree but i understand where u coming from

I was about to comment that this comes off extremely backhanded and borderline condescending but thanks for explaining further in the replies LOL
