My personal take is that it was less about Loki himself and more about… well, freedom. Lola clearly doesn’t have massively high standards when it comes to men, but I think she hated the idea of someone else, even her mother, making that decision FOR HER. That’s why she set out to sea. Both Fenrir and jormungadr(the world serpent) are both of Loki's children. Fenrir would thus make the most sense since Fenrir got too powerful for the gods to handle and had to eventually subdue him with unbreakable chains and a sword through his mouth until Ragnarok inevitably happens once he and Loki are freed! The sword in the tree may be removed like it was from Fenrir to symbolize Ragnarok as the sword is likely holding elbaf together!

They marked an X on their left forearm and covered it with a bandage. While they were leaving Alabasta, they couldn't say anything to Vivi as she was saying goodbye, since the Marines were watching. They raised their left hands marked with the X, which then became a symbol that meant they were friends no matter what and Vivi could come back to the Straw Hats whenever she wanted. Which is why Franky, Brook, and Jinbe didn't know about it, and Robin only has a vague memory of it.

In one norse legend (basically loki's final one), he was bound to a bolder with a venomous snake above him dripping poison upon his face, while his wife was holding a bowl trying to prevent the poison from hitting loki. And whenever she emptied the bowl the poison would hit loki causing him to writhe in pain causing the earth to shake. And it is said he will be freed during Ragnarok. So I think loki depiction follows more closely to this legend.

Elbaf is giving me major Skypiea vibes with its mythical, otherworldly atmosphere. It feels so different from the rest of the storylines in One Piece, and I’m sure this arc will be something special. I have enjoyed recent chapters a lot and yes, it’s filled with weakly contrived plot points (the crew separation, the giants and strawhats missing each other on the bridge, etc.) but it sets up so many major things I’m shaking with excitement.

Fun fact, in norse myth, after the murder of the god Baldur, which was said to be the inciting incident of Ragnarok, Loki was chained to a boulder with his son's (Narfi) intestines. Personally, I think this is more referencing the Loki imprisonment instead of the Fenrir one. Also I love that he is chained up in a snowy envoiorment, reminiscent of fimbulwinter, the precurser to ragnarok, (or its symbolic of Helheim being at the bottle of the world tree, could be anything, the one thing I know for certain, When Ragnarok begins and the Galarhorn is blow, all chains shall loosen, freeing all, including the titanic sun god)

Luffy meeting Loki is such a great moment, especially when u consider how it happened, Luffy a Yonko, a big fish in the one piece world, felt an amazing strength that cause him to shiver, and he had to meet it, because at this point luffy and us the readers should be aware of all the powerhouses in this world but no one was and it kinda gives the world more wonder in a terrifying way.

Sure, there's a similarity to Fenrir of norse mythology, but I think the resemble to Loki is more striking: His punishment for killing Baldr was being tied to rock and have snake venom dripped in his eyes until the end of the world. Between the chains and gauze around the eyes, I think that's more likely to be design inspiration.

Outside of inflation, the real reason the giants didn’t have a high bounty is because they were out of sight/out of mind. Bounties in One Piece go up when you cause news worthy events. Bigger the event, the bigger the bounty. 7 year old Nico Robin’s bounty is a prime example of that.

Something I noticed with Elbaph’s tree is we only see two layers and one with a giant sword spanning almost the entire showing tree. They did say it has to be thousands of years old. With the sinking of the world I bet there are multiple layers below the sea and old giant villages. Probably the ancient giants like you said. And would make sense if the base just keeps getting wider which it seems it does.

Honestly I think Dorry and Broggys depiction holds up quite well in terms of powerscaling they were tricked and underhandedly defeated and then in a still very injured state fully deleted a giant fish with what was the strongest single attack we've seen until maybe big mom. Similarly Crocodile had 3 very big disadvantages against luffy (maybe a 4th bonus one) being Water, underestimating luffy and being confined (you could also argue his motivation and will were allready corroding and weakening him).

7:32 God, as a writer, I don't want to _think_ about the VASTLY different walking/running speeds of the giants VS regular humans that Oda has to consider, especially if, like the usual, they're running on a limited timer due to a crisis again. What is 15 minutes of a giant walking compared to a human? Must be 3 hours of walking or something. I bet a lot of the crew will be riding/carried by a giant, or possibly thrown to address this. Anyway, that bridge scene is terrifying. Crossing a rope bridge is already scary enough! It's also interesting that Usopp (or was it Nami) was terrified of the gigantic wolves below, when falling from that height is a problem for most people. They leveled up that they don't consider heights a threat anymore.

Loki has a completely unique look. To me, he seems like a combination of Kaido, Katakuri, and Doflamingo. He has the crazy facial expression of Doflamingo, the tall and slender physique of Katakuri, but with a muscular build that's almost like Kaido's. It's just an incredibly beautiful design-truly a masterpiece. Oda has once again left me speechless in that moment when I read it.

This depiction of Loki also ties really well into the original Norse mythology tale of Loki. There, it's said that for his transgressions, Loki was bound to a rock for eternity and a snake placed above him continuously dripped poison into his eyes. This caused Loki to writhe with so much force that he caused what we now call earthquakes! The One Piece Loki is bound in a similar way and perhaps the bandaged eyes symbolize the poison that dripped into them. In any case, a bombshell reveal with two of the hardest back-to-back double spreads in One Piece history. Elbaf is going to be huge in many ways and I'm all here for it!

I'm curious to see just how much norse myth inspired figures and/or objects we will actually see in Elbaph. Being chained up, there is a strong probability the chains holding loki could be Lædingr or Drómi, which are canonically strong bindings but are eventually broken. They could also be Gleipnir which are the ones that hold out until Ragnarok but that would be less interesting imo. I also think its a bit noteworthy to mention that there are TWO Loki present in the original poetic myths. There is the Æsir Loki, and there is the Giant Útgarda-Loki. Both are mischievous masters of illusion and trickery but they differ in purpose. The Æsir is more on the chaotic whimsy side of things like stealing your hair because its funny and killing you beloved cousin and hiding as a salmon kind of stuff. Útgarda-Loki is more likely to make you race against a gust of wind disguised as a guy or ask you to bring him his cat which is actually Jormungandr in disguise kinda hijinks, but with the end goal being to motivate you to your limits. Ill be intrigued to see which loki this one is going to be. PS. I have no idea what the sword's deal is.
