In this out of the box talk, lead diversity facilitator Lachelle King highlight’s her particular approach as a self-dubbed story teller on moving away from “traditional” diversity training approaches to intentionally engage her audience into breaking down difficult conversations on racism. Lachelle King is a second year Graduate student at The University of Oklahoma. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, she has been a student at The University since 2014, where she graduated with her Bachelors in Communications in Spring of 2018. Lachelle currently serves as The Graduate Assistant for African American Programs & Services within The Office of Student Life. She is passionate about learning and discussing all things related to Social Structures such as Race, Class, and Gender. Therefore, it is no surprise that she also works as a Lead Facilitator within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at OU. She will be speaking about her particular approach to facilitating conversations on racism, by means of storytelling. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Loved this talk!!! Very great examples of using storytelling to talk about really heavy and difficult topics that are hard for some to think of and/or talk about!

Pouring in knowledge is a problematic metaphor. Better that there is extensive dialogue work and people integrate knowledge and information at their own pace. That is the way of true learning.
