A String of Errors Combined to Doom Flight 965 🚨 Air Disasters | Smithsonian Channel

All investigators know that no one thing brings a plane down. In the case of the December 20, 1995 crash of AA 965, the sequence of errors ranged from a missed opportunity to land, a misheard directive from air traffic control, and an erroneous button press by the captain on the flight’s computer.

If anyone is curious to know about what caused this accident: This was a scheduled ✈️ from Miami, Florida to Cali, Colombia. It was caused by a controlled flight into terrain (mountain in Buga, Colombia) caused by navigational error and Pilot Error. Five initially survived, but unfortunately one died from their injuries sometime after.

the sad thing is the crash was still preventable, the speed brakes of the plane were still deployed slowing their climb, had they been retracted, the plane would have climbed to safety
