So there's two things I wanna say, basically how I interpreted two particular events: the first is Sanji's chivalry and the second is Sanji's actions towards Luffy. In relation to the first, Sanji's chivalry doesn't stem from Zeff teaching it to him, I believe it has to do with what Zeff says towards the end - not wanting Sanji to turn out to be someone he hates. Now arguably the worst part of Sanji's past was that Judge was so ashamed of him that he cast him out and wanted nothing to do with him, this is what stuck with Sanji the most and has since traumatized him. The idea of his second father figure coming to hate him would be too much for Sanji as it'll just be history repeating itself. So, a traumatized Sanji took his words to heart and has taken them to a certain extreme, refusing to hit women at EVERY juncture, even during Enies Lobby, all stemming from the trauma caused by Judge's rejection of him. The second point has to do with Sanji's intent in attacking Luffy. I think it comes down to what Nami tries to say to Luffy: no matter his reasons, he can't go as far as insulting and attacking Luffy. Sanj's real method was to cross certain lines that would alienate him from the crew and turn him into a villain in their eyes; different from Nami who simply lied about her feelings for them, or Robin who kept secrets, or Usopp who genuinely disagreed with Luffy. Sanji attempted to cross all boundaries and make even Luffy, of all people, regard him as someone not worth saving. All this to drive them away from here. As you'll see in later episodes, there is a bit more to this. My 2 cents on these matters.

Robin worked to stain the crew with the murder and that almost got them killed. Usopp knew that the ship coukdnt go further, he just wanted to not be a burden and "get disposed" like merry. In the end, it seems that their "sin" its not having enough faith in Luffy and the crew. Ughh.. Trying to understand this is frustrating. What is Oda trying to tell us? Zoro said that "Teamwork isnt relying on your friends. Teamwork it's about doing all you can do and even more than that, and then you tell your friend 'now do the same or i will kick your ass'" Are they supposed to rely on each other? Are they supposed to take all the weight on their shoulders? When you think about it Robin and Sanji situations are really fucking tight spots... Can you blame them? How are they supposed to trust their Captain with so much? How much fucking trust can you really have on someone?

For Sanji he's scared to get the straw hats involved. He doesn't want them to die because of him, and he feels like he needs to do this on his own. He doesn't want to bother them with his pain, with his family, with big mom. Sanji knows that Luffy wouldn't just let him go, so he's trying to act like the bad guy, to get rid of them, and hopefully save them in the end. Of course, Sanji still forgot how stubborn Luffy is, so it still didn't work. A lot of people have called it selfishness, but I disagree. I'd call it selflessness to a fault, trying to do everything for the others and not letting them help him.

Why did Sanji acted like he did: Zeff was a hostage and would die if Sanji would fight back, against his Family and the Situation itself. This alone puts Sanji in a dead end. Zeff was on the other side of the world, it's impossible to save him. Then he also have his explosive bracelets - which actualy should not be a Problem, Sanji have Armament Haki so he should be able to protect himself from the Explosion. But i guess, it is meant to be symbolically, that his Hands are ''tied up'' and he can't do anything. Why did Sanji not just tell Luffy? Sanji knows Luffy and Luffy is someone who would never let a friend down. If Sanji would have told him about the Situation he was in, Luffy would try to help him - but this would cost Luffy and the rest of his nakamas their lifes. Because to solve Sanji's Problem, they would have to beat the Germa AND the Big Mom pirates, including Big Mom herself, to prevent Zeff from getting killed. I think i don't have to explain why there is no way they could do that^^. Especially with only half the Strawhats there. So, the only way Sanji could save Zeff AND his Friends, was to send them (Luffy and the others) away from him. Sanji would follow Germa's orders, but in return non of his Friends or his Father (Zeff) would die. That is why Sanji told them to leave, but because Luffy didn't listen to him, Sanji tried to send him away with force, what also didn't work. But who would not beat up a friend - so they don't run into a death trap?

Big Mom's target was never Sanji, it always had been the Germa 66 itself; after the whole fuckery of the Tea Party, she has shown to be quite bloodthirsty for revenge against Morgan, Judge and Luffy; Sanji just isn't on her mind right now, cause she never cared about him anyway. This is like expecting Akainu to track down and kill Makino and Dadan because they helped Luffy and Ace grow up... This is some true brotherhood between Sanji and Luffy, it shows you that he is the only true brother that Sanji actually has and not those scumbags who were laughing at him. Both of them did their best to save the other going beyond their limits. I loved these two more than ever after this arc, you can already see that their relationship as friends went to a whole another level during this episode, but I need to write this: I truly hate Judge and Big Mom for corner, depress and force Sanji to do this to his crewmates... 44:00 Sanji just wanted to protect his nakama by making them go away. He literally didn't wanted them to help him because he knew they were against Big Mom and Germa 66 at the same time, and he assumes they have no chance of saving him. He assumes that they will lose the fight, or worse. So that's why he doesn't want help from them, that's why he pretends to be bad, so they leave. Nami bought it, she actually believed in the "bad Sanji" and if it were for her.. i think she would have left. Buf Luffy could read through all that.

Just a little info on future stuff (without spoilers of course). Starting from Luffy VS Sanji, the animation and art will have a noticeable upgrade. The reason is the new director that came at the time, and DB Super ending which allowed more animators to come back working on One Piece. Also there will be more scenes to fill the holes left in the manga.

That's One Piece for you. One episode it makes you laugh at the stuffed Luffy fighting Cracker and the next breaks your heart at the Sanji vs Luffy fight. Not much of a fight since Luffy refused to attack Sanji and took his attacks head on. It broke my heart when Luffy said "Without you, I can't become the pirate king" and Sanji started to cry. Luffy's voice actress is the GOAT. So many feels. Also when Luffy said "No matter how much you kick me, the one who hurts the most is you." Sanji did that to save the Strawhats and the Baratie from certain death. This is what Sanji thought was the best course of action. They had assassins ready to kill everyone at the Baratie at a moment's notice, if Sanji did anything to fight back at Germa or Big Mom. And Sanji knows that Luffy would try to fight Big Mom if he had too, but Sanji knows that realistically Luffy would certainly die in that fight. So the only thing to do was hurt Luffy and Nami as much as he could, convince them to leave him there and head back; he attacked them emotionally (with words that hurt him more than them). Brook explains it really well in this arc: "Sanji-san is extremely kind. He would sacrifice himself for his friends." Sanji's plan to drive the Strawhats away ensures that he himself is "imprisoned" by the Big Mom pirates for the rest of his life, never fulfilling his own dream or going on any more adventures. But he chooses this over risking his friends and family.

Nami's slap towards Sanji made me tear up actually, more because Sanji is just trying his best on cutting absolutely his ties with the crew to save them from getting killed by Big Mom and Germa, and not only that, but to save as well his father figure "Zeff" and the "Baratie", knowing how he loves women and even more Nami made me empathize incredibly with him to the point I teared up during her slap. Using violence was the most probable way of sending them away since Sanji already experienced this situation with Robin and saw that words alone wouldn't be enough to convience his crewmates, you just have to see how Nami actually ended up believing him, his plan succeded halfway. Sanji really didn't deserve at all the slap, but since Nami bought his actions and couldn't read between the lines she didn't realize what Sanji was trying to do, which is ironic since she did something pretty similar in Arlong Park, but at the same time I can't blame her because on that moment she was moved by raw emotions nad it's not easy to see your own captain being beat up. Luffy was the only one who felt that his kicks were filled of pain, guilt and sadness. He's the only one who stand up as a brother to embrace his pain. If I have to write who were the true heroes of this chapter those are Luffy and Sanji, becuase both of them were doing everything they could until the end to save the other, If that's not brotherhood I don't know what it is, but meanwhile you have a broken and crying Sanji being laughed at by his biological brothers... Props to Oda for understanding to perfection his own characters. I'm a Zoro fan, but this arc made me see how rich and ambiguous is Sanji's character to the point that I'm almost about put Sanji above Zoro in my case and re-watching it wiht you Allona is making me love him and this arc even more, I'm not gonna lie. It sucks, but this was the smartest thing to do for Sanji. They're right outside Big Mom's house, _and_ Luffy just fought Cracker. He's tired as hell and smack in the middle of enemy territory. If it looked like Sanji wanted to come back, he'd have his hands blown off and everyone from Germa 66 to Whole Cake Island on all their asses.

Luffy asked Sanji to join the crew right after Sanji finished talking about starvation to Gin and Luffy was also only one who fought against Don krieg pirates with Sanji he saw Sanji sacrificing his life for Zeff and Baratie. He asked him to join becus of his heart Luffy definitely knows Sanji better than Nami.
