Renee at the end of this is a new policy you can impose on Kyle. It was late in the day when a fully loaded minivan pulled into the only remaining campsite. As soon as it stopped, the doors flew open and four children jumped out. They began to unload gear and worked feverishly to set up the tent. Next, the boys ran to gather firewood while the girls and their mother set up the camp kitchen area. The camper in the space next to them marvelled to the children’s father, “I’ve never seen such teamwork nor a camp that was ready so quickly. I’m impressed.” The father turned to the neighbour and nodded sagely. “I have a system,” he said. “No one goes to the bathroom before the camp is set up.”

WINDOWS…. Don’t forget to close and secure all windows! Our first trip in our 3rd RV, we packed up to come home and thought all windows were secure. But our bedroom flip out from the bottom, full glass panel window with the emergency latch was not properly secured, so somewhere along I-25 the wind ripped the window off the RV. This was prior to the pandemic and it still took 2 months to get a window and have it installed. 😩 Love you guys, your humor, and all of your silly antics! Thanks Hanks! ♥️😃👍

We tend to leave in the morning (after breakfast), so in order to reduce the breakdown activities that day, I have pre-departure day activities that include gas up vehicle, verify truck fluids, all tire pressures and condition checks, all lug nuts torqued to spec. In addition, before turning in for the night, we pack away exterior campsite equipment (chairs, tables, griddle, mats, etc) avoiding packing dew or rain wet equipment on the day. Remainder pretty much as you executed…

As an 82 young person, I love seeing you both enjoy life in your RV. My husband and I traveled for two years when he retired at 70. I drove for the entire time but my husband didn’t want to stay any place more than 1 day. He refused to stay in RV parks so I became very creative in finding places to stay. I kept journals of our life on the road which our 5 children enjoy reading! The real challenge was that my husband had a massive stroke previous and was trying to recover

Initial tire lug nut torque is a must. Truck lug nuts too. You must re-torque again anytime the lug nuts are removed and then reinstalled. It's recommended but not a requirement EVERY time you move the rig however. I would also recommend a TPMS. It WILL save your bacon and catch tire psi and temp problems before they occur. Expensive, sure, but LOTS cheaper than a torn up wheel-well undercaraige.

Love the stuff to the bed: I use that for our tablets, C-paps, (yes we are old), and assorted stuff from our dresser. Would NOT recommend walking on the slide outs because the construction on anyone’s particular trailer brand might not be good enough for that. And if it is, still don’t. 🤪 And we always carry some water (10-20 gal?) because I can’t tell you how many places we pulled into and they have a broken waterline or we are going to end up Boondocking when we didn’t plan it.

Something I would recommend, but it's completely up to you, is getting a TPMS for your 5th wheel. It will give you continuous monitoring of your tire pressure and temperature so you know if there's a problem prior to a blowout. It will also alert you to a blowout as soon as it happens. A friend of mine had a blowout on his 5th wheel and wasn't aware for a little bit. It damaged the underside of his 5th wheel. I love mine.

We are the couple that splits inside and out. My wife can't go to sleep with dish's in the sink, apparently they call her or something. Therefore there is not much to put away in the morning to leave and she also keeps our 4 year old busy inside while I hook up etc. The one thing I would say that is very different is that we will travel with a full potable tank if we are planning on bee lining it somewhere because we will tend to stay at truck stops or rest stops, never disconnect while staying at a place like this. The biggest benefit there is both the cost and no one cares if your genny is running to power the AC. When you mentioned accounting for water weight you didn't mention the weight of it. The weight of water is 8.34 lbs per gallon, our trailer works that out to be right at 900lbs.

Hey Hanks, Love your energy and comedic style of educating your viewers. I am a long haul trucker and hearing you mention tire wear got my attention and noticed that while hooking up your 5th wheel had no grease on it. Not sure if you are using a teflon disc but it can cause tire wear if your pivot point has extra friction not allowing the RV to easily center itself behind your truck. Keep up the good work and be safe out there.

We normally do long stays 2 weeks or more so we will have easy ups, a mat, and chairs, along with some yard art and/or lights strung about. We do most of our outside the day before, like take down easy up, clean the grill and pack it away, pick up the decorations we set out, lights and chimes, lawn art etc, when we are finished for the night we put the chairs away, so all there is left to do is drain the tanks if we have hook ups and disconnect water and power. We have a TPMS so I know what our PSI is and if I need to add air, but normally we don’t. The day we leave, we get up early have our coffee, Laura had already packed away her sewing stuff the night before (machine, and other gadgets she did a short video in fast motion it was fun to watch) after coffee, I will take the bedroom or the main area, and put away stuff, turn off WiFi/booster, bring down antenna, and set bathroom for travel, lock all doors, and bring in the bedroom slide, then we tackle the main area together like strapping down chairs, bring the bike inside clear and safely store kitchen and fridge contents so we don’t t have a mess at our next destination. When you are in one place you may start with a full fridge but by the time you move your fridge contents will be less and stuff can shift so we rearrange so there is minimal shifting while traveling. We are normally moving by 9-10 am as checkout is noon at Texas SP. but we accomplish much together but separate, so we are not tripping over each other. Our goal is to do as much pre packing and securing the day/night before so we don’t have too much to do the next morning. I don’t like dealing with wet outside stuff because it rained or heavy dew and everything is damp and it has to sit in the sun if there is any so it can dry. We have been known to pack things up a few days before we leave if rain is expected and it will be overcast for the following days. We don’t have a checklist, we have been doing it for so long that it’s ingrained. We do have some notes in our control box like antenna down? Doors secure a/c off so it does not auto start when we plug in at the next stop. You can walk on your slides but would not recommend it if you have slide toppers, we have the toppers to minimize water and debris from coming into the RV, but it also makes it difficult to clean the top seal and or replace e them as you have to remove the topper to do that. It does shade the slides and keep heat off of them, so it’s a personal decision to have them or not.

We've actually got the packing up of the RV down, but watched because you two are so much fun! When you threw Carl on the bed, my hubby said "Either she is very strong, or he is very small!" 🤣 My son-in-law also combines words (ie - food = fake wood). When we gave him and my daughter a video tour of our RV, he noticed my fake succulent, and called it.... yep. LOL!! Tip from me: Throw your shower bottles into a bin on top of some shelf liner on your shower floor. That way they won't be sliding around and possibly breaking. 👍 Be safe!

We recently discovered your channel, and we have been playing catch-up on your videos. We noticed in this video how you put everything on your counters away before you travel. We do not RV full time, but we have camped often for the past 30 years. A trick we have used, that so far has not failed us, is to cut pieces of non slip, non-adhesive, shelf and drawer liner and put those under your appliances etc. We have our ice maker, coffee pot, and a small crock that holds our large utensils secured this way. For the coffee pot and ice maker we have a drying mat on top of the shelf liner and they never move. Just something you can try if your want.

While he is flushing the tanks I'm working from the nose ( bedroom ) locking down the tv, drawers, doors and securing items. Last thing I do is sweep the floors, then wet Swiffer them with Mrs Meyer's. I carry the keys around my neck. I'm in charge of locking everything up as he finishes with each compartment.

We follow the same process. Clean the inside together.... wipe down and stow kitchen, make bed and clear out cloths and things that go home, wipe down bathroom (Clean toilet), vacuum. Then The wife takes over the inside while i load the truck and breakdown the outside. We use a table to put everything on before moving it to the truck. Once she closes up the inside (Slides in and then put things that stay on the trailer inside) she shuts down the power while I hook-up the truck, disconnect power, remove chalks, scissor brakes. Last step is go through our inside and outside checklist together. Stairs up (Same as Wheels up in plane talk). Let's Roll!!! After we pull off the pad we do one last walk around.

We had a nasty thunderstorm roll in this week and our neighbor did not retract their awning. I literally watched it run up and off and smash on their roof. If you have bad weather coming in, put that awning away or anchor it. I use ratchet straps and anchor it to something strong and keep it as low as you can!

First off, You guys are great, awesome, hilarious and all that JAZZZZZZZZ! Great video on the tear down procedure. For All RVers its always important to have a checklist, by checking it once and checking it twice. I have seen other RVers not have a checklist and wing it. Not a good idea where a disaster of some sort could happen. TIP: Regarding standing on your roof to sweep slides. If you are not confident or you can’t walk on your roof based on manufacturing guidelines. Buy yourself a blower to blow debris off the top of slides. You should always carry a small ladder so you can reach the top of your slide if you can take it with you. My ladder straps to my ladder on my motor home.

Sandra Westley from the UK we never shower on the day we are moving, we make sure we shower the night before, wash and dry hair the night before, pack everything the night before. Leave out clean underwear with your travel clothes. Pack away all foods that don’t make up breakfast, we make coffee for on the way in case we find services packed, we also make sandwiches for lunch. We Hoover and tidy the night before, that way nothing is rushed. We disconnect pipes for waste and just use a bucket for washing up water, we don’t have tanks for waste water, we have pipes that hook into the drain provided on pitch. We have a cassette toilet which we empty every 2 days, and use biodegradable fluids. Like we move tomorrow and heavy rain is forecast so we don’t want to be outside sorting things out for very long.

Love your videos, another reminder is to make sure that the Microwave vent is locked on the outside of the camper. Just learned this after many many years if camping (that there was even such a thing). I had to make a magnetic sticker to put on the microwave to open the outside vent before using, but then also to lock it on the outside when when leaving, so air going down the road does not break the flap because we forgot to close the tabs.

I have a few things to discuss. 1. Throwing the hose into the camper in the beginning made me slap my knee and laugh till I cried. (The entire beginning was hilarious) 2. My cat sunny flings hair ties and water bottle caps EVERYWHERE. It’s like stepping on a Lego multiple times a day. C. I am very glad you let Carl the monkey make an appearance. I pictured him so different for some reason. 85. I plan on getting an rv to live stationary in. I am sooo afraid of heights and don’t know how I am going to get up on the roof to sweep it and check seals 🦭 etc. I had an anxiety attack when you were up there sweeping like a crazy person. Love the video. Do you guys have Facebook or Instagram? Not that I’m obsessed or anything……but do you? 😳
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
Love this!!! So glad you enjoy the humor 😊😊 Give Sunny lots of loves for us 😻 As far as the heights thing, you can purchase slide toppers in which you wouldn’t need to get on top of the roof 👍🏼 Yes! We have a Facebook and Instagram!! Facebook - happilyeverhanks Instagram - @happily_ever_hanks

#ThanksHanks I do not like the walking on the SLIDES, but worse yet, is the over-reaching when sweeping the slide, so the quick walking on the slides is safer. Also, I noticed pine needles and pine cones on the roof, so sweep the roof first as it doesn't take much wind and/or motion for those to slip down onto the slides. Love you both, you make me laugh, which is so healing!

We just have a baby teardrop with only 12v electrical systems and a slide out gas stove. But still, the process is a lot different. Securing stuff seems to be a critical part of it. Especially the windows and vent. We travel on mostly dirt roads, so this could be a fatal error for our adventures. I need to plan ahead if I want coffee or tea for the road as the stove needs to cool down before sliding it back in. We got lucky early on and came upon a campsite where they left behind their leveling blocks. Saved me from having to buy some. It was a good reminder for us to always pull away and then stop for one last check of the site in case we left something behind. Thanks for your tips though. I always learn something that can help even for just a tiny teardrop.

When we had a slide motor repaired, the repair tech told us we could step onto the slide. It makes sense. You get on the slide from the inside when you are sitting on the couch, etc.

I check tire psi with slides IN. Get some knee pads and crawl under the slides. You can do this the day before moving so your not rushed. You'r also not in the sun because of the slide overhang. You can even check the tire psi in the rain because of the slide overhang.

#ThanksHanks Awwww Logan got a shout out! We have a running gag here in Lima, every place Logan and I go, whether it's the coffee shop, snack shop, pet store, or the local hardware store, everyone greets Logan with "Hola Logan!" I wait for about 20 seconds and say to them "And me? Nothing!" Then they are like ""Oh Mac, hello! How are you?". It's all good. I know my place. Great information on this video. I've seen so many set up and tear down videos but after a few minutes I want to fall asleep. Y'all make them really fun. As far as stepping on the slide I would question anyone's reasoning for doing so. Yes, as someone said you are putting your weight when you are sitting in the slide but I would look at it as leverage, you maybe adding too much weight at the top creating a greater stress on the mechanisms. Then again someone who is smaller may have no issues but someone that weighs over 300 probably shouldn't get on there. The beginning of the video had me in stitches. Wow! You two must really be nurses. Dad Joke #743

I really enjoy your videos, one thing I'd like to add that I do when tearing down is I drain my fresh water hose and screw the ends together. That keeps the little bit of water in the hose from getting in the storage area and when I get to my destination, I connect the hose to the fresh water source and let it run for a few minutes to flush out anything that might grow in there between trips. Keep those videos coming!
