First off, Happy Anniversary!! Second, dumping in the morning with a cup of coffee!? You need to enjoy the moment. Just before sunset layout a blanket next to the sewer hose. Bring out some snacks, adult beverages, and play some music (Don't go chasing waterfalls, my favorite). Nothing more relaxing then the sound of a good dump. You might want to add a link to the Hughes Autoformers PWD50-EPO Power Watchdog Smart Bluetooth Surge Protector Plus EPO with Auto Shutoff - 50 Amp Portable Version. It is one of the best rated on the market. I like that I can monitor the power with my phone. Plus if you get a big surge, you don't have to replace the unit, just add another $36 module. Safe Travels!

You can always check with multi-meter neutral to the ground to see if you have continuity that will tell you if you have an open ground. You can also check from the outside of the disconnect to the ground plug to see if there is continuity. You bought a good meter, Klein tools are some of the best.

Finally a video where someone actually had a problem with their 50amp connection. I always hear people talk about having surge protector and I even mentioned one time on a huge KZbinr's video about him not having a surge protector and I pretty got the brush off with his answer because as he said "I've been doing this for years and have never once needed it. It's a waste of money." To me that's not very smart advice because if your power supply gets zapped by a surge of electricity your entire electrical system can get fried. I'm happy you were able to experience the issue first hand and show why it's a good idea to have the surge protector. I'm coming home soon. The election here went in the wrong direction and it's time to say Adios to Peru. I'll probably be leaving end of August. Hugs from Logan and me. Thanks again for the fun and informative videos.

I greatly admire that you are also first responders, which makes you heroes. So glad you have struck a balance in your lives and that you are really living life so well. My husband and I spent a year out on the road in our 5th wheel and thoroughly enjoyed it. We hope to be able to do it again. We toured the perimeter of the USA, starting from our home base in Oregon, to Idaho to visit our son, and across the upper states (loved Glacier NP and the upper peninsula of Michigan - want to go back) and into Canada (the maritimes). Spent quite a bit of time in Maine, down the east coast, and wintered in Florida. We did that in a 2002 McKenzie Monaco Medallion 5th wheel (wonderful) from May 2014 to May 2015. We now have a 2017 Highland Ridge Open Range Light 5th wheel. We drove to Wisconsin to get it in October 2017. We love your adventures.

I heard from another couple that actually lost their electrical due to not having a surge protector, right after beginning our journey began. I’m so glad we bought one, as we have been in Florida for 6 months now, and experience thunderstorms almost daily(especially now that it’s warmer). Thanks for sharing, as I’d rather get advice from others, than from making the mistake firsthand. One more tip regarding FL summer weather esp. We also watched people’s awnings get torn to shreds, while they are away from their sites. I always retract it when leaving ours now, as these storms pop up out of nowhere, and create strong winds. It’s a terrible thing to watch and not be able to help stop the damage. We bought tie downs with springs at the base, that are working great for breezy days, and sites near the beach, etc.Happy travels in FL to you!

We started with a 2000w predator inverter generator, runs great (only $550). Then installed Battle Born Batteries, what a game changer! Then 300 watts of deployable solar. We are able to run everything including a 12v refrigerator. We are now upgrading to 1400 watts on the roof and a 3000 watt multiplus II. You can then boondock more and the system will pay for itself in a short period of time.

I have a 2016 solitude and I wanted an onan generator installed. Approximate cost for 5500LP generator $4500, plus $1500 for parts, then approximately $2000 to $3000 for labor. This was to expensive in my opinion so I ended up buying 2 onan 4500 portable generators cost for both $ 2300 plus $100 for parallel connection for 50 amp ability. So 9000w instead of 5500w. I decided to mount both generators in bed of truck between cab and 5th wheel hitch. Height matched my bed rails. Temporary locked them down until I get a hard bed cover installed to secure them. I’m extremely happy I went this way over the onan being installed directly in 5th wheel compartment. Easier to service generators, plus can operate on 1 if other needs work. Something you might want to look into as an option

Not criticizing, but with your setup if/when you go somewhere in your truck the trailer is left without power? Also be aware of possible damage to your truck wheel bearings with your generators running due to a phenomenon called brinneling. Back when new cars were shipped by rail they would sometimes arrive with bad front wheel bearings due to the vibration on the stationary bearings.
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын
Love hearing this Darrell!! You are living life to the fullest and doing it the right way 😊👍🏼We are so happy for you!! Love us some broadway shows as well!! Stay in touch friend, keep these great comments coming!!!

@@jimcollins8097 Your correct that without the truck close to Rv the generators become useless, but the generators are for emergency use (power outages) or for boondocking. Not intended for full time (24/7/365). Even regular generator set up on RV’s are not intended for full time use. As for now vibrating issues, my Diesel engine is like 50 times more then these 2 generators combined. My point was for me I found a cheaper/better/more powerful option then the norm. For the cost difference I could replace the wheel bearings many times over if the vibration were to cause them to fail. Again these generators I purchased weigh only 120 lbs each and any vibration are very minor from what I experience. Thanks for the information tho👍. Never hurts to be aware of possible issues

We experienced a lot with power issues when were boondocking. We have a 2001 Holiday Rambler 34' fifth wheel that has a 240volt 50 amp system. We were told a 5500 watt portable generator would be enough. What we found that was not accurate. The 5500 rated generator would trip off if over 3000 watts. Watts = volts x amps. So we up graded to a 7500 watt generator. Now these portable generators are good for 12 hours of continuous use before they need to shutdown and rest, according to the manufacturer. So we purchased a second generator for 24 hour use. It was nice to have duel fuel generators because propane can stored in larger storage capacity tanks but you can get gasoline anywhere anytime. We had found propane burns about 1 pound per hour where gasoline is closer to 0.75 gallon per hour due to the difference in fuel BTU ratings. Hope that helps.

I always plug in my surge protector to test the pedestal before I unhook from my truck. That way if I need to move I don’t have to hitch back up again. I’m also getting a generator (an inverter generator) for a few reasons. One of them is because I live in “hurricane Florida” and I want to be able to leave if a big hurricane comes and be able to set up camp anywhere. Many campgrounds fill up quick when a storm like that comes in so I may get stuck without electric. Nope! I don’t camp without electric. 🤣😂

On your aux fans for your fridge, I also added fans for our dometic. I put the fans at the top blowing out. I also installed a baffle to direct the air drawn in at the bottom across the fins. Doing it this way works with natural convection (heat rises), while blowing in at the top is working against natural convection. The baffle stops air from just churning inside the compartment.

Our first towable RV was a Predator toy hauler ('05 HD Ultra Classic) and we used a 2000W SILENT Honda generator in the truck bed for dry camp power. It worked well to keep us cool and refer cold. Worked well for us for two years. Westinghouse has a less expensive, more powerful gen that we took as backup in our '94 Coachmen Destiny (38' Class A) for our 5 week trip with our granddaughters. Used that for Wally or rest stop nights for a few hours of quieter power before bed time.

Quick RV tip: Always check the top of your slides before pulling them in when you get ready to move and there is no need to climb on the roof. Put your phone on a selfie stick and video across the tops to check for leaves, pine straw and debris. If there is anything that needs to be cleaned use an extension pipe on a battery powered leaf blower to remove it. If you have trash on the top of the slides when you pull them in, it will force it into the seals causing damage and leaks.

Happy Anniversary! Since space is a premium for you being full time, I would recommend an A/C soft start from Micro Air and a 2000 watt inverter generator. That would at least power most of the rig and one A/C. When I bought my camper I had the Furrion backup camera installed. I knew if I didn't get it right away, I would always talk myself out of the cost (~$500). Having had it for a few years now, I couldn't imagine not having it.
@HappilyEverHanks3 жыл бұрын

@@HappilyEverHanks one underrated feature of the camera is that it also has a microphone and the audio comes through the display, so you don't have to holler at each other if giving some direction. I know a lot of people use phones, but there is usually a delay associated with that communication. Solar is cool - I don't have any yet, but plan to add some eventually.. But you need to have a lot of solar and a lot of batteries if you ever want to use the a/c in places like Florida. It's almost not practical especially being full timers. A generator will at least get you by until your issue is resolved.

First of all, you two make me smile with your antics and quirky observations on RV life. 🥰 We are primarily snowbirds now and own a lot in FL, but we used to do a bit of boondocking and own a Honda 2000W generator that worked great (and is quiet) as long as you don’t need ac. Literally I think the generator is 15 years old and still works great with a bit of maintenance and we travel with it for those times of “unexpected” incidents. It is probably the minimum for you to consider, although with your size rig, (and that moody cat) a generator big enough to give you 1 ac would be nice. If you are going to keep doing that FL 90+ degree thing, then maybe look at the whole hog solar money outlay. After all, a couple of nurses probably know all the dangers of human (and feline) heat stroke. 😎

We have a Solitude and currently have 600A of lithium installed and are looking at enlarging that and also adding solar. If we're planning on boondocking then we carry a 4500W dual fuel generator. Good call on the power connection! But I agree, I am always concerned that when the tech shows up they may say, “it is all fine”. I don’t trust that, if the inline surge protector is throwing an error then there is a problem, but a way to double check is to put a dog bone on the cable and connect to the 15 amp and see if you get the same error. Love your video of the river, we carry kayaks with us on our truck rack but I like the idea of floating and being able to just lay back and relax, what was an amazing place. Happy anniversary BTW!

Awww thank so much!! Yes, we totally agree with you on that point. We are concerned that we may run into this one day, but that is what the surge protector is there for. No room for human error! So if we do ever run into that, we will probably just end up finding a different spot to stay. At the end of the day it’s our home on wheels and we wanna do everything to protect it 🙂👍🏼 Hopefully we can all meet up for some paddling soon, would love to get on the river with you guys!! 😃

Great video!! I feel ya with the surge protector. We camped this past weekend and we were ok Friday night and Saturday am and then all the sudden we lost power. We thought it was our fuses. Took us an hour to diagnose what was going on. Our Progressive surge protector was throwing an E 6. We removed the surge protector and connected straight to the pedestal and then we were ok. Not sure what was going on! But thank God it wasn't the camper.

Oh what? Our card says E-6 is low voltage (line 2) whatever that means lol...nurse brain here! At least that's what our card says! Thank goodness for the KZbin and the Google to help with everything! Safe travels! Thanks for watching! 😃~Renee & Kyle

I have one and mine came with it’s own pump. They are great. If you ever in Phoenix go to No Snow in Mesa. They are a great place to get a new paddle board. Don’t forget to keep pfd handy.
