Our 1913 house's kitchen also has 4 doors. We redid it with white cabinets and white appliances over 20 years ago. I still love my white appliances. Why conform to stainless steel (ugh)

Whenever you pick colors for a customer or a client, you always always find out what they do like and what they do not like, you can avoid a lot of problems that way.

The problem is that it seems like a lot of these homeowners are deathly afraid of color and they only want white and other neutrals. Girl, if you’re that afraid of color then don’t hire a designer. Just do it yourself if you have so many restrictions! That way, you’ll get exactly what you want.

I absolutely love a white kitchen and the updated retro look. I live in a retro house and prefer to stay with the basic look of the time period, with modern conveniences. Not much can be done with my layout and I like it but this look is my dream.

I love this kitchen! So fresh and happy looking. I went to an all white kitchen, I have since replaced my oven and microwave to stainless. I have Fiestaware dishes which gives a bright pop of color.

When she refers to the white knobs on appliances, I linked it to Patsy and John’s white kitchen in season 4 “Design Inc”. Patsy LOVED white across the board in her home, and she really struggled with whether or not to do white appliances or stainless steel with Tanya Bonus (project manager). Loved she chose white knobs on her stainless steel appliances

I'm sure it would have been pretty, but if the client HATES it, please don't question her choices. I'm glad you relented for her sake; beautiful kitchen.

Absolutely fabulous design even though I probably would have done different color combinations in the flooring and would have closed off the weird little window by one of the doors and added some open shelving where the chalkboard is. I’m in love with that ceiling and the trim and those handles are fabulous. I wish they would have told us if they tried to explore closing off at least one door

I think a client needs to be consulted on every decision and to me before actually purchasing anything and definitely before installing anything a client needs to sign off on it, and I mean literally put their signature on the presentation. at least that’s how I work

I agree with the owner on the floors. The yellow and green would have been cute for 5 minutes but would be ugly very soon. They turned out,,,,, ok. The big fail though is the fridge against the wall. The left door will not be able to be opened all the way, making it difficult to fit things inside. I had this problem on a previous house and it was a real issue.

I would’ve said absolutely not to the floors you can add subtle color but those stripes are too bright for me and it just marries the kitchen to those colors but i love everything else.

Yeah, the problem with Sarah101 is that you actually get absolutely no say as to what goes into your makeover. If I remember correctly, Amanda said in an interview that she voiced her concerns with Tommy, and he calmed her down a bit, explained what they were doing, and she ended up feeling A LITTLE BIT better about the design choices that were made. She did say she ended up loving the kitchen though.

I would not have liked green and yellow either. That's just horrible. I saw a gold vinyl that Sarah used on some barstools that was pretty, but yellow, no. Colors like that need to be used with curtains and pillows and seat cushions so they can easily be replaced. Not the floor. I loved everything about that kitchen, except the score in the backsplash.

Great end result! The floor was fun but I too would have loved the green and yellow so the handles could be yellow! I do have to say if she really spent $50 for a light kit she's over paid by more than half. She must have been afraid to admit one can get great lighting for under $25 each!! I think I would have sacrificed that little non opening window for a but more cupboard/counter. Love the taller cabinetry. That was right on for the age of the home.

Agree ! We all have colors we don't like so the key is to listen to the client's preferences . Having worked in interior design & landscape design , a designer is there to help the client , not override their wishes .
