My kitchen island extension is a bar cart that is usually in place beside my stove, but then moves over to the table for serving food if there's a need. That's all I have room for, and it works really well.

Love my kitchen ceiling beam. It's black against a white background. The pop adds a little drama without overwhelming, and brings the various black elements of my kitchen together.

I have bought (as a temporary feature) a small marble tray where I keep a soap dispenser and a sponge. Can’t wait to dispose it because dirt gets into all seams and I have regularly waist my time on cleaning the tray. Dread to imagine to do it for sink.

@@YayaBolender Marble is porous, therefore it's a terrible material for countertops, let alone a sink. Looks beautiful on picture but would be horrible to maintain. The only situation where it may be okay is in some mansions with 2 kitchens - hidden one for actual cooking and one in the open space for making tea and coffee. Actually, even in this case it wouldn't really work because coffee, tea, wine etc. would stain the marble...
@newwine1887
@newwine1887 4 ай бұрын
There has to be an artificial material out there that looks like marble. I agree! Kitchens are messy and busy for a normal family. That beautiful integrated sink looks great when first installed but over time it must look horrible. Then what? You have to replace the entire counter!

This was a great video-I love these ideas-especially the counter hutch idea. I’ve heard so many say that open shelving, although attractive, is a nightmare to keep clean. I feel like the hutch with glass doors solves this problem. You can display your pretty things, but without the constant cleaning. I definitely want to incorporate this into my kitchen remodel.

I am already icorporating hutch cabinets, pulling the base cabs firwRd to make the countertops 30" instead of 25" deep and raising them an inch, and having swing out lightweight wood with drop down legs to give more prep space to my small galley kitchen. Also motion detecting lighting to lower cabinets converted to drawers and pullouts.

Can’t wait to see the changes to your kitchen! So many things to love these days. I think for me, it would be several things that prob fall into the category of layering. All of the details combined to create the WOW. First the little ceiling fixtures instead of recessed. Different cabinet door profiles that work together as well as combining stain and paint. I’m really in love with the same counter stone and backsplash material and mixing counter edges. You have me thinking about the stone sinks now. Great content as always !

Living in Europe, I found it interesting to see you highlight your perspective on kitchen details from this side of the pond. Natural stone, wood, curves, beautiful faucets that are not stainless steel juxtaposed against sleeker finishes and cabinetry seem to be trending here as well. I am glad to have found your channel.

Definitely need an elegant, timeless glass element to give your kitchen some sparkle. Since my kitchen is small, I went with floating shelves where I placed fancy storage containers for things like nuts, seeds and garlic. It cleared up counter space and still left the kitchen with an open airy vibe. My upper cabinets were partially blocking views out the kitchen window. Not only are the decorative jars functional, but they add just the right amount of sparkle without looking like clutter.

I notice how shallow the eating area is where you are sitting. It appears impossible for you to turn around and sit with your legs under the overhang, which seems like poor planning to me. So although there’s 3 bar stools, how many people can actually sit there comfortably? And at 13:37, you mentioned “chromone bolts”? What are they? I’ve never heard of them before. Lastly, how difficult will the rock walls or backsplash be to keep clean on a daily basis? It looks great but when you’re cooking and grease and dust get on it, isn’t it easier to clean a smooth surface than a rough textured surface? Some things sound better than the day to day reality. Of course, I guess if you can afford it you probably have a cleaning staff to take care of the cleaning so it doesn’t matter. But for a 76 year old grandmother like me, I want something that I’m not going to have to scrub my knuckles raw on every time I cook. So I think I’ll pass on this idea. Looks pretty, though.

All these kitchen ideas are beautiful and really come down to personal style, budget and space. The only thing I would comment on is from a functional point of view, the bevelled edges of a countertop should be smooth. Grease dust etc. would be so hard to clean if there are so many vertical and horizontal lines. Thanks for the inspiration. 🥰🇨🇦

Wonderful video- and so well done with the images. I really would have a hard time to say which of the elements I prefer. I suppose I do like the idea of the layers in general (so multiple textures- whether two kinds of paint for cabinets , two different countertop materials etc). I love very much the creative countertop edges. I am planning to use this element in my kitchen renovation (and just finished doing this for my coffee table renovation- had a slate slab cut and included detailed edge which I would like to use in kitchen). I have a kitchen that is open to the living room and dining area (loft like)- and this great space has windows from counter level to ceiling across the whole way around the room- so no possibility of upper cabinets anywhere (think continuous windows wrapping all the way around room. It also has huge stone cut squares that act as a ledge under the windows all the way around (actually these windows wrap around the entire top floor of house). This leaves me only one wall in kitchen area that is partitioned and so can have cabinets. Because the views around the rest of the room are breathtaking- I could not have a built- in cabinet wall to store fridge/stove etc. I needed to have something magnificent on the 'one' wall without windows. So I did buy an antique hutch with metal mesh cupboards- almost 3 meters tall. So it made designing the place to house fridge and stove tricky...but well worth figuring out how to push that constraint! That said- it seems that my kitchen has all the layer elements coming together naturally- huge wood beams in ceiling- stone walls & ledges- and so when I incorporate more of the details on your list- I am hoping it will be quite something! :)

3:15, i could do a wall and sort of kitchen like this. My house is totally made from such stones in 1870. Ardennes, Belgium. But i will prordo that in my to make bathroom what is now still a bedroom. Last month i beoke through my 20"/50cm stone wall to make a dooropening to my garden. What a big job was that. My kitchen is from about 1982 and not so appealing... My 5 bedrooms still have the doors and handles from 1870. Also some plinths (plint / plinten in Dutch) are original. They have wooden notches to be put into the wall plast,er as they were when i took them off. I will reuse them ofcourse. I think that the window sill in my entry hall is actually a stone wash sink. My neighbor across the street ( overbuur in Dutch) also still has the original stone sink on such a window spot in her entry hall. She said it was used to wash the vegetables and so. In the authum the historical village man come to visit my house to write about it in the village magazine. They write about every house its history, old and new. History is interesting. Regards from a father and his son from the Ardennes ( Battle of the Bulge area).

@@ashleychilders yes, it absolutely is. By the way, I made some type mistakes and did not reread my text. Like today it was 31°Celsius (88F) outside but inside it is still normal with 20°C. The outside is white like all the houses in the village. The roof is 90 year old slate in very big tiles. There are no red roofpannes allowed and no other colors then white, brown, grey and natural stone are allowed to color your house. House white, around the windows brown or black or anthracite ( in the old days farmhouses had green around their windows. I found that color under the brown), grey roof, stone outside wall or brown wood planks on the outside. Across the field the very modern house is in these colors. So it fits very good in the village. Yes, I try to bring back the old flair but I also like modern furniture. Such a white fence would fit my front garden. The front façade has 4 windows on a row where bedrooms are. The winter project will be the small bedroom. It will be an office and I reuse the original plinths and ofcourse the original door and door frame. The bedroom for guests (logeerkamer) is in a more English cottage style. Not finished because I did not find some right furniture. The attic is 100% from 1870. Big beams and no insulation, original flooring with at some places tin/metal cheating patches are nailed to the planks against mice. The village historical guy will visit my house and write about it in the village magazine. But because of the American bombardment from St. Vith on 24 th December 1944, no build drawings or anything is left ( from many houses). Best regards

My kitchen is small . How can add more storage?

The idea of a glass door pantry can be charming, but there are times when the pantry area can get a little cluttered and it would drive me crazy to be able to see that, (which is my my walk-in closet areas have closed doors, albeit they clad in beautiful handprinted and embroidered wall paper fabric). In my new home renovation, I have utilised part of a corridor leading to the kitchen area as a small walk-in 'China cabinet/pantry where I will store my good china, linens, cutlery, vases, some appliances etc. with open shelving that sits above sets of drawers. Having closed cupboards in this area would make the corridor too dark, so I opted for glass doors with a tiny warm metal mesh-like structure from Rimadesio (Milan) that lets in light but not too transparent. I can leave a soft light on in the cupboard area which casts a soft glow to the corridor. You would be surprised at how this modern glass front adapts to clean lined designs as well as something more classic. A hutch with glass doors I adore, but a pantry area that is always on show, not so much.

Not a fan of range hoods, especially in smaller kitchens. They are just too weighty, and don't really add anything as a decor element.

Everything in your kitchen seems like a trend. Since you will be adding a hutch are you gonna do more of timeless piece? All the pics you showed are beautiful. I guess the takeaway is to do timeless from the get go otherwise we will always be dreaming with the next big thing.

My kitchen is pretty classic. Subway tiles, plaster hood, classic marble countertops, warm gray cabinetry. All those items are timeless. But we’ve lived in our home for 7 years now and I just want a little refresh. Nothing major. Just adding the hutch shelving, repainting the cabinetry, add new handmade tile that I’ve fallen in love with and possibly doing new plumbing fixtures (depending on budget). We spend so much time in this room that I’m just ready for a little change. 🤎🤎

For sure a stone mason! Our stone mason does all the stonework on the exterior and interior of the homes we design+build. Good luck!

Yep, I knew it. It wouldn't be long and people would be getting rid of those floating shelves. 😂 There's a reason cabinets with doors were invented. It's to keep the dust off of your stuff.

These kitchens are harmonious and beautiful, yet becoming so predictable and therefore boring and unoriginal. Social Media teaches us, and trains our eyes, which is great, but at the same time removes freshness and discovery from our lives. This design, unfortunately, is for people who have the money to buy anything they want. So they buy anything to make sure they are not like the rest of us. A middle American wouldn't be able to afford even half of that kitchen, and the top 1% removes materials from the environment to purchase another trendy thing every 10 years. People do whatever you want in your homes so that you are happy. You don't have to be like the rest or like the 1%. Utilize harmonious designs, natural materials (if you can afford them), use colors you enjoy, and pay attention to details, but don't follow these trends. No matter how beautiful these kitchens are, they will become dated, just like the expensive kitchens and bathrooms of the early 2000s and 2010s. Your 1990s kitchen can be updated, invest in things that you don't already have like wallpaper, art, wooden table, safer appliances, but geez don't rip out your kitchens just to look like these kitchens, which will become outdated too.
