Loved it all, the only thing I would mention is the table at the end of the bed. Someone might hit their leg on the front edge of the table as they round the corner to get to their side of the bed. Maybe not, but that is the only minor critique I might mention. LOVE the color palette. And, I love these older videos with Tommy and Sarah together…such great chemistry.

Great example of patterns, textures, lines adding lots of interest to a very subtle, neutral palette. I was hoping it'd still have lavender the owner likes and it does. I see there's ways to get lavender in there in small ways that still have an impact. Very soothing room. Cohesive without being matchy-matchy. I like how much focus was on finding bargains then remaking them. Not my personal style at all but I appreciated watching this all unfold. The owner seemed happy and it still seems soft and romantic like the original was but modernized.

Lovely! Even on those rare occasions when I wouldn't choose Sarah's style for myself, I always enjoy watching the process, appreciate her bargain methods and splurge ideas, and recognize her talent. To me, wallpaper is a big commitment, but I like this one. The foot of the bed table /bench is making my shins cringe. I would have changed the hardware on the dresser, bench and side tables - maybe some crystal or even ceramic, and I find the picture frames to be quite cool in tone for the rest of the room. I was surprised she didn't paint the chair legs ;)

Katef...the original color scheme reminds me of an article I read many years ago, when the Women's Institute in Ireland (maybe '50's?) invited a speaker to tell them how to decorate a BandB ... new concept then. She mentioned the color mauve would look nice, and within a few years, virtually every BandB in Ireland had mauve bedrooms! Cautionary Tale on advice!

I liked the vibe of the original. Was the ribbon on the sheet not lavender, and actually the same color as the previous walls? Glad they chose the photographs. Neutral is a good balance pairing for color, but it's not stand alone or timeless. This is very 2000's . Especially 'branches' wallpaper. Wished the headboard fabric matched the wing chairs (someone's going to correct me on calling them wing). King sized bed👍.

Linen and lavender, what could be better? At it's so fun to go vintage shopping and upcycle the pieces into the room! I just find that the curvy silhouettes are a bit repetitious: headboard, bedside table legs, seating area chair legs (see 18:31). Then the "bench" legs are spindly and may not take the weight of someone sitting down! Art choices are good.

Although many people in larger cities like the hotel room look, just as many of us find it cold and lacking in personality. In a private home there is always some personality, something that speaks of who lives there. This is what I don't like about designers. They think they're always right.

Pretty, but not functional. The light next to the chairs is too low for reading, so they won't be used for anything except putting on one's shoes. There's no storage next to the bed for tissues, meds, etc. that we want to keep nearby but don't want to see. The table at the end of the bed is a shin-breaker and isn't needed to sit on since the room has chairs already. It's just another surface to collect clutter. I do like the show overall and how they show the craftspeople and their capabilities. But prettiness over function? Not so much.
@mkkrupp24623 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting how at one time we can love a certain look. And then a few years later we regard it as unattractive and old fashioned. This is called ‘fashion’. We are thus manipulated by magazines and other media to keep updating and consuming even when we have perfectly good items. Most of us are influenced this way, especially women. So it’s not just the big corporations and elites that are guilty of overusing our planets resources, and contributing to greenhouse gases ( and cluttering up our lives and creating unnecessary landfill and pollution) - it’s all of us. The natural world is paying the price. As will future generations. I’ve been as guilty as anyone but am seeing the truth of it all now. The ‘fun’ of it all is starting to pale as this ‘inconvenient truth’ takes hold.

I feel badly for people who need others to pick “favorite” things for them and then it’s all so boring and reflective of nobody. So this room went from 80s yawn to 2020s yawn and to make it worse it’s referred to as “hotel chic.”
@trouse50463 жыл бұрын
I hear what you’re saying especially in looking at the artwork but the homeowner looked like she was in her 50’s with a grandma looking bedroom. Hotels are so bland and soulless - why would anyone want to make their bedroom look like a hotel room? Surely it's better for it to look like a place someone lives and is comfortable, rather than an impersonal place that hundreds of people sleep in while passing through. And what's with all the pointless extra cushions on the bed? They just get in the way and all have to be removed and put back again every time you use the bed. Such a terrible idea. It sure looks beige, bland, and boring to me
@thehungrygoldfish3 жыл бұрын
The appeal of a "hotel room" look is the calm, peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. You're not going to get a calm, peaceful, relaxing atmosphere with red walls and leopard wallpaper. Keep in mind if you have your entire place to yourself/spouse, you are going to use your other rooms for other things 9like you're not sharing with roommates or family), so your bedroom is pretty much for sleeping. I would say more people would want to be comfortable AND relaxing. You're not going to be in your bedroom 24/7 when you have your entire house for yourself.
@teddy-37653 жыл бұрын
@@thehungrygoldfish Each to their own, I suppose but I'd find it depressing to have to retire to such a bland and soulless place each night. I'd also be ashamed to aspire to part of my home looking as impersonal as a hotel room, no matter how "high class."
@thehungrygoldfish3 жыл бұрын
@@teddy-3765 Then paint the walls a vibrant color and add colorful pillows? Like there's nothing preventing you from doing that. The good thing about having a neutral design is that you can layer on top of it. So keep all the furniture and stuff and just change the accents and voila, a room with personality.
@teddy-37653 жыл бұрын
@@thehungrygoldfish Yes, I know I can do it differently for myself, but what I'm having trouble with understanding is why people would want to do it this way. Why anyone would WANT to make a personal space in their home look like the ultimaste in impersonal spaces - a hotel room. It would be like saying, "I'd like to decorate my living room as if it's a corporate space." Mind you, with the number of people who do just that by decorating in grey, perhaps there are more people who want to live in soulless surroundings than I'd hope or expect the world to contain... which is a sad commenttary on the world in general.

@@teddy-3765 Because no one has the exact same taste as you, hon. Everyone is different. They have different tastes, different lifestyles and different needs and wants from you and everyone else. You might want a vibrant, crazy design in your bedroom, but not everyone does. Some people want a relaxing, calming environment, which this is. Yes, it's boring, to you, but for someone else, it's perfect. Like someone else can say, "Omg, I can't believe someone would want pink walls and leopard wallpaper in their bedroom. Yikes!"
