That looked fun and great views. Love a cold crisp day with blue skies. During lockdown when our favourite cafes were closed myself and my riding buddy would take a flask of coffee with us and a sausage roll from Greggs and sit on the outdoor seating outside our favourite cafes, it was good fun, although awkward trying to find a toilet stop afterwards.

I had forgotten about the places I used to ride when I was a kid. I still used to drive around the area all the time but it wasn't until I started cycling again in my 40s I really remembered how far from home I used to cycle back then. It's been nice to see most of the little roads and paths still exist, just a lot more overgrown and with more fenced off areas, oh and a big 4 lane "dual" carriageway going straight through the middle of one of the little roads.

I cycled from Yorkshire to Chamonix in 2023. I took a little tent, mat and sleeping bag but I decided not to take a stove. It's heavy, takes up a lot of space, takes a lot of time to cook and everything ends up smelling of fuel. It's also difficult to do the dishes sometimes. Instead I ate at cafes or bought food in supermarkets and took it with me. I never had a problem and I could easily get by with one hot meal a day because it was summer and I didn't need hot food. I would suggest that it's worth trialing your set up and thinking about not bothering with cooking kit if there are enough places around for you to buy food as you go. Great vids, looking forwards to seeing your next adventures!

Ah Ben, FWIW, I’d much rather watch this kind of video than a bike build. You’re barking up my tree here. I’m a cycle tourer at heart, and mid-morning on every tour day, my partner and I stop for “second breakfast” (though I am decidedly unhobbitlike in stature). Brekkie2 also involves what we’ve come to call the “tea ceremony,” which is basically just making tea in-you guessed it-a JetBoil. Best bit of tour kit ever. Strap mine to a Topeak Versacage, so it doesn’t take up space in a bag. We use it to cook meals too (couscous is easiest, but rice works-we’ve even made “JetBoil risotto”). As for setup, mine varies depending on the kind of touring. With my partner, it’s rack and panniers on my old-school touring bike. But I do light bikepacking with a buddy of mine on my gravel bike, and I use Ortlieb bikepacking gear for that: 9L handlebar pack for the tent, top-tube frame-pack for snacks/tools/batteries etc., and a QR 13L seat-pack for sleeping bag, mattress and extra clothes. Happy to send you a pic of my setup if you like. Looking forward to the Camino series (I assume?). :)

So true. No “head unit”, but also no spares, tools or any other thing that we wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without now! And a flat a million miles away from home (even if it was only really 3!) meant a dink home on your mate’s handlebars, dragging your bike along next to you. Extra good story for the ride afterwards 😂

Thanks for the video!!! I'm glad you'll keep making videos like this even if bike builds are more popular ❤ you said tent and sleeping bag, you already have a sleeping mat? If not, I love the Sea to Summit Ether Light XT. NOT the lightest nor smallest (still reasonable), but it is very confortable and as a light sleeper, comfort is my priority. In case the weather will be super warm in Spain at night and you could do with only a sheet, Thermarest has a silk sleeping bag liner that is light and tiny. I'm excited about your upcoming trip!! Thank for sharing your adventures with us ❤

Great vid guys! Bikepacking sounds great! I have only done it a couple of times and thinking of streamlining my kit. Bought a Alpkit Soloist tent which is superlite and a sleeping bag from somewhere (can't remember) but i know they can be bought small and compact. Also.i bought a blow up mat for the sleeping bag,again from Alpkit. They are definitely worth a look! 👍

Good luck on the Camino. Be aware that wild camping is illegal in Spain, so either use albergues or hotels overnight. I walked the Camino Inglés last spring, it's the most emotive adventure. I'm thinking of cycling the Camino del Norte, which would simply entail a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander, then start cycling - no flying needed 🙂
@benjaminlechappers18 сағат бұрын

I did do a trip riding from London to Mallorca, alternating camping with Airbnb's - very lightweight hooped bivy Alpkit Elan. Not ideal if you are claustrophobic but quick to set up and giving a little extra headroom as opposed to a conventional bivy.
