These kinds of simple alterations are pretty much commonplace for women to do, yet you rarely see these tutorials for guys. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks for this, James. I love how you're the first fashion KZbinr out of Harry, Daniel, Tim to name a few who has talked about the merits of charity shops! For this kind of fashion, there are so many gems.

I’ve done this myself, it’s a game changer if you’re on a budget. Would recommend using hemming web as a quick and easy way to stop fraying and neaten up the hem.

Total game changer! Yeah that’s a great idea, thanks for the tip!

did my first crop today, went really well. and the finished product is now prob gonna be an essential piece in my wardrobe rather than collecting dust :) cheers. also what size tanktop/vest did you buy from weekday? XS or S? xs seems to be always out of stock so i thought thats the one everyone is getting for the tighter look
@JamesLeung Жыл бұрын
Nice one!! My cropped shirts are my favourite pieces now as well! I got it in the Small 👍
@EXIST-st4wn Жыл бұрын
If you can afford to I would recommend getting this done at a tailor, will cost around $20 and the hem will look much nicer and won't fray /curl up after washing. I have a few shirts I've done a raw hem to and they ended up looking worse after washing. (Unless you are going for the grungy look which is cool too). Learning to sew is also not as hard as it may seem. I recently picked up a singer heavy duty and have taught myself by altering most of my wardrobe. I understand a machine is not cheap but it will pay itself off in the long run. p.s. love your videos and style
@JamesLeung Жыл бұрын
Great suggestions 👍 as you say I’m going for that grungey look so not too worried about tidy hems. But I can definitely see the long term benefit to learning how to do some basic hems yourself. It’s something I might look at in the future, thanks!

@@JamesLeung would be interesting to see you learn and utilise basic sowing techniques from a beginners perspective. i think it would make a good video. cropping a shirt with a stitch/hemming a pant
@CharlesLeChat Жыл бұрын
Nice video! And if you don't want the rough edges, you can always head to your tailor to shorten them. Done this with sweaters as well, and they can make the hem to stay put.
@JamesLeung Жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s a good point, I’m guessing it’s pretty cheap too! Thanks for watching man.

Im really short (5'5) and wide (fat) but I like to go thrifting a lot. Copped a lot of good buttoned shirts that fit my width but are too long for my torso. Always thought about cutting them to fit my height but im kinda scared of cutting wrong and wasting the quality fabric. Might try this out soon tho, thanks for the guide!

raw hem needs to be sewn up properly. Go to a tailor for cropping if its a nicer piece

is it okay not to stitch the cropped part?
@ahassan76 ай бұрын
as he said, it’ll fray as you wear and wash it if you leave it like this. if you want something to last long you’d want to stitch the hem

How do you prevent a shirt from fraying? I just cropped one of my short sleeved button ups and the bottom is fraying really badly
@JamesLeung7 ай бұрын
You will need to sew a proper hem to stop it fraying. I like the look of the fraying so I didn’t bother with mine
