A Success or Failure? - Warhammer The Old World

The Warhammer Old World is back and in this video we are going to look into the first week of the Old World Launch. We will look at some of the negatives that they have had had with the old world release, whether it is pre orders not arriving, local gaming store stock of Bretonnia and Tomb Kings being non existent.
We will also look into the Warhammer The Old World positives such as the overall reception of the game and the sales for the factions that appear in the Old World such as Bretonnia, Tomb Kings, Beast Men, etc.

I know lots of people that want to play and most people seem hyped for it. But out of all my friends nobody plays bretonnia or tomb kings so currently we're all waiting for models for our chosen factions

8th Ed was different though, a huge mistake pushing more models, bigger units while raising prices and lowering the contents in the boxes.. Seems like they have learned and brought it back more towards 6th Ed.

Didn't manage to get my books before they sold out, going to need to get back to painting my backlog High Elves asap eventhough I'm also working on some Tomb Kings chariots right now to see what might be different about Chariots before I touch my Tiranocs and Lion Chariot. Also need a pile of 25mm bases since I have so many mini's that need rebasing. @_@

@@knightofthetabletop Yeah I have 2 Island of Blood sets, an old Batallion (8 silver helms, 16 archers, 16 spearmen, bolt thrower), a spare bolt thrower, some extra reavers, 10 man metal silver helms unit and more; I made a list on Old World Builder. Just need to get to painting that up but since the Tiranoc Chariots are metal and pretty old and finnicky I decidded a unit Tomb Kings Chariots would make for good practice! Thing is, I never got around to playing the game back in the day I just collected the mini's cuz they're cool. I heard the new 'normal' game size is 2000 pts and I wonder is having 2 dragons is overkill at that size. I'd love to put my Imrik and Dragon Mage of Caledor to good use though. ^^;

I don't know how much we can conclude from this 'post-release hiatus' - all that's out is stuff that's out of stock, two of the less popular armies and not even full ranges for those yet. People always rush for the rules and boxes when the game first comes out, and I can see this being a Cursed City situation when the game is mostly ignored once it comes back. Launch boxes tend to behave like 'FOMO boxes' when first released even though they do eventually come back in stock. It's encouraging if the Beastmen are flying off shelves and my local GW staff were also optimistic about prospects. But at the same time I haven't been able to find opponents yet, even at GW, and nearly all the Slaves to Darkness range is in stock. I suspect Beastmen are just a less popular army and that GW doesn't restock older models all that quickly, so even a minor uptick in demand can prompt them to sell out. Quite a lot of Skaven are out of stock too. Meanwhile Mortek Crawlers are still in stock, and you'd have thought at least a few Tomb Kings players would be picking them up either because the Screaming Skull Catapult hasn't yet been rereleased or to avoid dealing with a resin version.

As someone who owns a 3D printer and who is just gonna buy the rulebook, I'm stoked with this release. I have a bunch of friends wanting armies. The few of us with printers are happy to oblige. Those of us with OLD armies are busting them out to show them off. Gonna be a blast diving back into the Warhammer Fantasy world.

@@knightofthetabletop At first it was Wood Elves since they're my oldest love in WHFB. Trouble is I cannot find a creator who has done sculpts that I really love. I've printed some test minis but I'm not sold. I've got some beastmen printing right now from Beastarium which are looking far more satisfying. I'll probably settle on them since they have a good mix of monsters, big units, elite units, chariots and weird nonsense. I do really want to run a shaman and monster heavy army. What about you?

@@tripp9278 beastmen and bretonnia for me - just because i really wanted to do them near the end of fantasy but the support for them just wasn’t there. Their books were dated compared to many others etc.

@@knightofthetabletop I would be pleased with 5 Attacks (like Vampire Counts had all the time) and more Vampiric powers. But while we got nerfed into the ground, "human" bretonnian dukes have s5 w5 a5...like drinking from the grail gives you enough steroid rations for the rest of your life (a human with strength 5🤦🏼)

I would honestly say give the game a go - I have been very pleasantly surprised. I get it was rubbish what they did those years ago but it’s time to embrace what we have.

I'm not sure who this is for besides former WHFB players who still have their armies. The game is too expensive, the armies require too many models to build and paint, and they are just repackaging ugly ancient sculpts for today's cost.

Well, it also releases beautiful old sculpts that were not around anymore. As for expensive, not really no. You get 70% of a large army in the start box. How does that differ much from 40k?
