A SUPER BLAST TO THE PAST W S&H GREEN/BLUE CHIP STAMPS! Looking thru the catalogs from the 1960s!
When I was a young girl, my family collected S&H Green Stamps as well as Blue Chip Stamps whenever we shopped. We couldn't wait to fill up the books and redeem them for cool things from the catalogs!
Take a look at this blast to the past with me, showing you what was available for us to dream about getting!
Hugs from me to you!
Very warmly,
Jeannie

My mom collected enough stamps to buy each of her eight children a set of that Oneida flatware. We each got a set at our weddings. I remember her keeping the stamps in the drawer by the telephone. Thank you for this video

This is so interesting. In South Africa some shops still do this for things like pot and pan sets as a prize. The satisfaction of getting enough stickers is addictive. I would go gaga for a whole book of stamps, I think it deserves a comeback😊

Yes, they do that here in Serbia and I'm addicted 😅 I, too, like one of the old ladies people described here, keep my loyalty stamps in a drawer near the door, and love the feeling of sticking them in that booklet. I got good quality wine glasses, classy beach towels, Pyrex oven ware, and some Swiss backpacking equipment. I'm loving it.

My S & H Story. We were in the redemption center and I saw a tin TOY rollercoaster . I wanted it BADLY . It was very large and even tho this happened to me in the early 1970s, this roller coaster looked like it was from the 1950s . It was VERY colorful and pictured kids w/ cotton candy and had that "old theme park" motif ! (THINK: the graphics from the 1962 board game Candy Land by Milton Bradley !!) So my mother was all "No you can't have that - it has very sharp edges and some kids CUT themselves on it!". Now mind you ; I was no a deprived kid or anything like that and I did want this toy on a whim. So we left and I had totally forgotten about it. Fast Forward about 40 years . I am now an adult TOY COLLECTOR in the 1990s (!) an I see this (now VINTAGE) toy for sale -- about $50.00 (it's actually a commonly saved and heirloomed toy-- not rare by any means) . So I bought it and - when I got it home and set it up- oh my -- it DID have some VERY sharp edges !! These were "Made in Japan". And this was when "toy safety" was just starting to come about . LOL. So mom was right! But it looks so so nice and happy . You can see what these look like if you do a GOOGLE search "vintage tin toy roller coaster j. Chein ". There are several versions but look for the one that has that "Candy Land" look !

Thanks for trip down memory lane. My job as a kid back in the 60' was filling the booklets. I can't recall if they were S&H or Blue Chip. The redemption center was big with U shape counter staffed by around 30 plus young women. That was back in the day when business use to employ lots of people. Like supermarkets use to have 8/10 checkouts each with a bagboy.

I thought it was hilarious when they used that thing. I never understood how it was suppose to burn fat. My mom got one and I used it when i was a little older. I mostly grew up with Piggly Wiggly and they had their own book as did Publix. I of course do not remember using them, but I do remember during a spring cleaning and finding a bunch of them and throwing them away. My grandfather was born in 1907, so he went through the Great Depression and that man kept everything. I guess you could say, my mother and my grandfather were like organized hoarders. Thankfully I am a minimalist and I have next to no problem, throwing crap away or giving it away. You’re actually bringing out some memories for me that I haven’t thought of or couldn’t remember honestly. 😅 OK I need to try to go to sleep since I have surgery early in the morning. Travel safe.❤

When I was a little girl, on Saturday morning, I would fill out her stamp books and we would go to the S & H store and redeem the books, the store had everything, from dishes, to cookware, furniture, beddings, it was great, it was something I did with my mom as a child, great memories, thanks for posting this, I enjoyed watching.

We collected sooo many S&H greens stamps... a drawer full. But, we had two grocery stores, Grand Union and A&P who had their own kind of "loyalty" program where you could buy things really cheap if you bought a certain dollar amount. We bought the entire Encyclopedia Britannica set (think of Google in a hardbound book) .99 cents per book, one book at a time...whew it took forever and was our family's best treasures...We used those books for all of our book report research.... lol.....

We had that set (or some sort of it) as well. It’s all any kid had for research. They were great. Wish I still had them…

My husband has a story about his mother. They had traveled to “town” from their farm to the S&H store where he and his three siblings were going to be able to pick out some things with a stack of books held by a rubber band. At some point his mother realized she did not have the stack of books, so she went to the front of the store and stood on a table where she loudly announced that no one was leaving the store until her books were found! My husband was mortified as you can imagine. Someone finally came forward and said are these yours? She had found them on a shelf where I’m sure his mother had laid them and forgotten. 😮😂

This is so interesting, I love this! I just found your channel but am already so into your little snapshots from various points in time. My parents immigrated here from Vietnam in the 80’s and I was born here in the early 90’s so most US culture from before then is totally foreign to me! I love seeing these nuances & details from actual day to day life that you show in many your videos. It’s really fascinating and you’re so soothing to watch / listen to. It really feels like we’re sitting at the kitchen table together as you show-and-tell these gems! Such a unique channel concept overall. I can’t quite explain the feeling it gives me but I appreciate it a lot, it’s very comforting, almost like a nostalgia for something I never even had. Thank you!

I was born in the early 80s and I vividly remember going with my mother to a green stamp store. Mom kept our stamps in an old McCoy cookie jar on top of the fridge. She bought a cream and harvest gold electric skillet with her books once & it still works!! She makes her roasts and hamburger steaks in there to this day. 😊
