Great video Nick..I have a tip for you,, While fish will generally eat baits,, Their trouble is finding it..Use you normal baits BUT,, Also add a 1ich piece of bacon as well,, The oils released help the fish to find your bait & provides a better chance at it being eaten..Give it a try brother.

It's really cool that you have so much fun catching the kind of fish you catch. I live in Wisconsin and fish here where we get annoyed when we hook carp and other rough fish. But truth be told, it is kind of fun to land a 5 lb carp on an ultra light rod. I would never go looking for them, but that's because I'm lucky enough to live close to water that has lots of what we think of as good eating fish as well as trophy muskies and pike. More power to you, but you should consider a trip up to Canada or the Boundary waters in Minnesota. It's a blast.

Catching fish is better than none. Spraying some cooking oil onto the guides will usually prevent them from freezing up.

Try finding some calmer pools in the winter especially with some depth. Moving water is great in warmer weather but usually not as great in the cold. Love the videos and style man keep doing what you love.

Iced up rod guides is something I hadn't ever thought about and am thankful you mentioned it. I've fished with snow on the ground and sometimes with ice still at the bank, but never in air temps below freezing. Packing for a trip that will definitely include below freezing fishing days, and now I'm going off to find my little butane powered heat gun to make sure that's in my tackle bag.

I'm glad to see your new video. I haven't gotten any notifications that you had uploaded until today 5 months later. I should have just come to your channel. I see you've been uploading nearly every 2 weeks. KZbin hasn't notified me. I'm still a fan. A long time fan. I was fishing recently in a river near me. I used an unusual crazy bait. Egg roll wrappers! Lol. I folded it into an inch in size. It stayed on a single hook, weighted on the end with 12 inches off the bottom set-up. Typical bread bait but egg roll wrappers because they are more durable than the typical bread dough baits. The egg roll wrappers last much longer and work in the exact same way.

Dude you can bury those carp in your garden, if you have a garden spot at your place that is... Plus I really think you should start using more fresh caught bait heads on your hooks. Don't know what it is about the head, but I'm seeing plenty of folks having success and I myself have started having success. Bonus is with the skull, that hook holds the bait much better also. I've been catching huge catfish using skipjack.... I sometimes fish an area that has lots of snags on the bottom and I use a huge bobber so that my hook doesn't touch the bottom and that setup works fine. Also, I use braided line so that the fish don't break my line.

Fishing in the cold can actually be some of the best. I used to prefer and do a lot of trout and bass fishing in winter. Which many of my best catches came from the mid November through March time frame
