Random story but in 1998 BB gave me a copy of his record before it was out when we met at a clinic his drummer was giving. Later that night/morning his label knocked on our front door at 2am demanding it back. Didn’t have a great way to make copies back then so I ended up having to wait like everyone else after only one listen but always have the memory :)

The Mod Shop nailed it! The gold compliments the silver flake like gold inlays on sterling silver pieces, and ties the tortie pickguard to the rest of it. Nice move letting the other guy have this one, you rock!

I met BB at a small concert in early 1970 during the break. We talked and he offered me a chance to briefly play Lucille, ( Then Lucille number 2 ) His guitar had very low frets as was common in very high quality guitars of the era, and he used very light gauge strings, Ernie Ball super slinkies, just like I used on my Guild Starfire. I wish Gibson would build these the way BB actually set them up, especially the 'vintage' low frets, and deliver with the correct super light gauge strings... Until they make them the way he played them, they are just another guitar with a sticker.

Maybe BB King had to fix the frets later with a Luthier and thus Gibson is setting up the instrument the way they came from the factory with the same strings they sent out, heavier Gibson?

@@caseysmith544 I don't think I've ever kept a set of stock strings on a guitar for more than a day, I like to know what is really on there. and fret design is ultimately players preference. the guitar will have 99% of the specs you're looking for, except the frets. or maybe not, it will be 100% to other players who are used to higher ones.

Correct is a subjective term. And I've never seen or played a Gibson issued with superlight gauges. I've got six guitars, keep 'em with 9s, 10s, and 11s (they do different things) but know of superlight players as well as 12 and 13 types. I figure you put what you want on there. Might try the Reverend Willies in 8, just don't know which guitar. Hmmm been looking at f-hole guitars trying to replace an old Coronado I should have kept. Perhaps that's the one...thinking Casino (hollow). 335s don't resonate with me, I've returned one and also returned a beautiful Gretsch strung light and sounded "thin"

That sounds much better for marketing than Medium Flaked Silver Burst. that's just my description as I was pro spray painter for years, but lets go with yours.

B. B. King told Dan Earlwine in an interview that he never used the fine tuners. The tp6 allowed him to change strings quickly if he broke one in the middle of a song.

Hi Austin. I have an all black gold hard ware from 1995 it’s been amazing guitar. I let some of friends play it they all wanted to buy it. It will never be for sale at any price. It a freaking nice guitar. The action is very low. Has a super fast neck. It has veritone with stereo pick up jacks. You can plug in to two different amps. Great show tonight. I would buy this one in a heartbeat. Thanks Trogly I watch your show every day. Sometimes more than once.

i have a 70th anniversary Lucille signed. i named it the double BB because of the inlayed BB King in the Neck. its such a ridiculous good sounding guitar

My favorite Gibson's are vintage SGs or Specials sanded to the wood and oiled. Have 2, a 68 SG, bat-wing pickguard with P90s and a '59/60 double-cut clone with beautiful factory wine red, dark but transparent, and too thick and glossy for me. Chipped it once when new-ish and the depth of the poly reminded me of a Fender finish when you break thru to the wood -- it's thick. Had a 64 Melody Maker in tobacco sunburst that was incredibly thin finish but I foolishly sold it in the 90s. Love that mahogany!

Trogly you have to pick up the custom shop BB King Live at the Regal ES335 which is in Argentine Grey and has a B7 Bigsby as well as the Varitone whenever you have info on the pre orders, it's the same one pictured on BB's Mr Blues album cover.

With the silverburst look it reminds me a lot of the 335-S Deluxe. Just switch from gold to chrome hardware and give it some Zebra humbuckers and I feel like you’re nearly there (looks wise of course, obviously it’s a completely different construction but still cool)

That burst is not a flake it is an extremely heavy dose of pearlescent added to the paint.

Nice inlays. Not a fan of BB's lack of F-holes or the colours of this one. Trans black of the back and sides is nce though. Nice case. Price is something I'd never touch.

Epiphone has always made great ES style and hollow archtops, but this guitar is definitely a stunning one for your collection. I'd say keep it Trogly, but you're a good guy for letting the other guy get it.

Should I get one of these in competition, I will sell it and then use the money towards my personal built , same like the Lucille but carved wood and not plywood, more like the ES336 with Ebony carved top and AAAA Flame Maple cap on the back....adding a Fishman TuneOMatic Piezo bridge with Seymour Duncan PRails and Seymour Duncan Trippelshot rings, three concentric pots so each pickup has own volume and tone control, 6way rotary switch to replace the three way toggle switch and master volume acting also for a kill switch for the Piezo.....I have this setup on my Epiphone Lucille and she sings so sweet, 54 tones without the need of a pedal board......

i'm guessing the reason that inner layer of maple was flamed is the reason it was refinished. Probably accidentally put the laminate layers in the heat press backwards/reversed and ended up with plain grain on the archtop.

Back in the mid seventies, varitone equipped guitars (345/355) were popular, because one could play straight ahead classic rock, but then use the varitone for funk and disco (top 40) songs. This was so the players wouldn't have to lug around a Gibson AND a Fender.
