To save all that work they could have just machined the hole in the 2 original parts, fixed up the metal insert, press and the weld the two bits together. Same result, less time, just not so dramatic.

Did not even try to set the broken piece to run true in the lathe and then it got worse as the FAUX "Repair" continued. When reset in the lathe @17.40 there is a good 60 though run out that was not corrected.

Interesting change from some videos. Rather than boring out both halves and creating a threaded insert to join the two halves together with weld, manufacturing a new end piece - I wonder why - perhaps the diameter of the piece at the break point ???
