I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

Just an FYI to U.S. viewers, I have not gotten custom charges from ordering off the Knitting for Olive website from the U.S. after multiple orders varying between ~$80-$250.

I agree 100% about purl stitch hurting if done for an extended period of time. I’m self taught (using both books and KZbin) so I think my knitting style is far from traditional and perhaps that’s the reason it hurts after a while but regardless, people who say “if you don’t enjoy purling you don’t enjoy knitting” need to be quite. This is supposed to be a welcoming craft and community. There isn’t space for that kind of negativity. Ignore them. You get to enjoy your craft how ever you choose. Anyway, I just stumbled upon your channel and I like your energy. Happy knitting and happy new year. :)

Darling girl I watch you not for your perfect words and presentation, but because I adore your sweet personality and inability to take yourself to seriously. That said, I so so hope you bring us along on your trips! My days would be less smilie without getting to catch up with what your up to.

Love your podcast! I hope your experience in Cuba is everything you want it to be. My dad and all my grandparents are from there but had to flee when the dictatorship came into power. It seems like a popular travel destination for Canadians nowadays but many folks don't seem to know as much about the inequalities that exist there today and how tourism dollars fund the dictatorship's military. I really respected how you called out the ethics of referring to grafting as the Kitchener stitch on Instagram and hope I'm able to do the same with this comment and encourage folks to think critically about the ethics of traveling to Cuba.

First, thank you so much of sharing some of your family experience and posting this comment. To be honest, if I only travelled to countries whose governments I agreed with I would never travel. When I do go somewhere with an oppressive government, I try to do everything I can to go out of my way to be gracious with locals. For us, this means bringing some sought after goods, tipping really well, and intentionally going to some local businesses in town. I will be sure to keep doing research to try and be the best I can wherever I go.

@@kuriaknits appreciate your thoughtfulness, Erin! Btw I'm really excited to hear more on your upcoming trip to the Kent area. I studied abroad at Uni Kent in Canterbury and loved it. Such a special place. I'll also be visiting this Sping in April!

Always a pleasure to watch your podcast. I love all your knits. Since you mentioned your LYS which btw that's my local shop as well, I have used her Sandnes Garn mohair and I also tried the Estelle that they carry may not be a kid silk but very nice and budget friendly as well. Take care til next time.

Love KFO. Live in Canada too, ON and only a few stores sell it. I ordered from the KFO website and got customs. Anything over $120 Canadian (purchase price) will get caught at customs now for duties as per our lovely government and new rules. Almost every knitting package for me is over $120 sooo not so many orders for me this year. Beautiful cardigan. Love the yarn palette behind you as well - beautiful colours. Your Mobi is nice too. Have a good day!

We have the same LYS! I was going to mention that Filcolana was coming, but you beat me to it. i got so excited when I noticed that, but my daughter just didn't understand. 🤷‍♀ I am currently working on the Lento sweater.

I have that Sandes Garne book and am also excited to cast on the Gernsey Sweater (it was the whole reason I bought the book)! Also I was wondering this week if Canadians would have to pay customs on KFO so thank you for answering that for me! My LYS has some but their colours are a bit limited and I might put in a larger order in the second half of the year for some sweaters. Have fun in Cuba!!

I second this: I find KnitPicks Aloft (72% mohair, 28% silk) to be quite a bit softer than Drops. It's pretty affordable, especially when it goes on sale.

Hey just a heads up that the stitch pattern you're referring to as "broken rib" is actually garter rib, because the rib gutters are in garter stitch rather than purls. Broken rib is a different stitch pattern, where you offset the ribs by one stitch horizontally in a kind of zigzag, eg. for a 2x2 rib: kkppkkppkkpp (regular) pkkppkkppkkp (moved one right) kkppkkppkkpp (regular) kppkkppkkppk (moved one left) This creates a kind of puffy rib pattern which looks and feels squishy kind of like fisherman's rib or brioche, but with a much simpler and more economical construction. The puffiness is created by the offset rather than additional rows of yarnovers.

If you google "broken rib" it is the first couple results are what I'm referring to. Might be called different things in different places!

We love Cuba! We did a tour to Havana on our last trip...it was a long bus ride, so I don't know if we'd have gone if we'd known that (we were told it wasn't far). I am glad we saw Havana, although it was 40°, so too hot for me to enjoy completely. This weekend I have started a Lento out of very bright Songbird Yarns. I have no business casting on something new...but a girl's allowed a birthday cast-on, right? 😄

For the finger pain issue I have seen in a knitting group that some people will buy the finger covers for gamers - it's basically a little finger glove and reduces the friction on your finger.

I dream of going to Cuba one day as my father and family are from there (Guantanamo specifically) but fled when Castro took over. Since I’m in the US, that’s not possible until things change. I look forward to hearing about your experience!

If you are knitting in the round on interchangeable needles, you only need the right size needle on the end with which you knit (the other one can be a smaller size). Just mentioning it so that you said that you had multiple WIPs with the same size needles.

I always love your podcast episodes! Good company while I knit :-) I just wanted to let you know that the background music makes it harder for me. Maybe it is also possible for you to not add music? A suggestion to consider. That would mean I can watch an episode all in one go in stead of a few minutes at a time over the course of a day or multiple days.
