The gold medal winning Russian duet of Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina not only impressed the world with their incredible technique but also offered a beautiful homage to the King of Pop Michael Jackson in their "They Don't Care About Us" technical routine at the London 2012 Synchronised Swimming competition.

I've never understood why this sport has been so maligned as not a "real" Olympic sport. This is SERIOUS athletic ability. This is gymnastics, ballet and swimming all rolled into one. Stunning. Gorgeous. I'm in awe.

@@cawewe and Gina... I had experienced years worth of synchronized swimming in my past. For someone that was a competitive swimmer and track (along with other sports)... synchronized swimming is very VERY taxing on the whole body. To be co-ordinated, the counting happens when the head goes under the water. everything is on a count. a heartbeat. .and the perfect partner that gets you. that is VERY IMPORTANT! I watch professional Ballet and I actually CRINGE! they are NEVER perfectly in time, yet we have talent like THIS! IN A MEDIUM (H20)that has so much more density and resistance than air, the different force and energy needed to make the moves required so much more training. people just dont understand that.

@@lorrainecc99 I understand that. the counting, the gracefulness, etc. I was just getting at the fact it's quite deceptively an athletically demanding sport on the individual. Having to hold your breath for a long time while putting serious demands on your muscles, ... you wind up getting GREAT LUNGS! haha

i am a syncrhonized swimmer, and it means so much that people understand it's difficulty instead of saying "oh, it's just like water dancing" or "that's not even a sport" or "is that kinda like water ballet?" or "it's easier with no gravity!" I don’t think people realize how difficult synchronized swimming is. I did it for 4 years and I ended up quitting. It was incredibly grueling. I was in the best shape of my life when I was in the sport. I went on to play water polo and still think it was slightly easier than this. It’s not just water dancing...
