Unfortunately loads... Payslips, housing documents, bills, some of my former students' work... Paper clutter drives me crazy and I've been trying to minimise. I love the no-pile rule!! Eliminate all piles accumulated on flat surfaces 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

I keep ID documents, deeds and titles to the house and cars, some other legal documents that I have. I used to keep tax documents and HSA receipts until we got audited and I learned a digital copy of everything was as good as the original. I also used to keep medical reports, test results, etc., but I’m currently working on digitizing those. My ultimate goal is to get rid of the file cabinet altogether.

I just decluttered my file cabinet last night. I do this yearly and had still kept saving receipt, old bills, etc. that were over 5,10 years old 😊😊😊 I was hoarding all these thinking I might need them.

I do keep old photos in a shoebox storage which is kept on a shelf in the closet. These are my own photos from decades past, which I pull down and take shots to then share with my siblings (five other brothers and sisters) in our siblings room for special occasions, birthdays and such, memories of our parents, etc. My siblings get the biggest kick out of this. So, no, I would not want to change a thing with this arrangement.

I’ve been slowly working on getting rid of paper clutter. I’ve been scanning like crazy! My problem now is that a lot of it has just become digital clutter. I’ve also been working on that and reworking my file system, but it’s definitely still a work in progress!

@relliesal, I just kind of giggle to myself when I hear people talking about getting rid of paper clutter by putting it in digital form or, my personal favorite, "THE CLOUD"! What these people don't understand is, with someone who is challenged with paper clutter/organization it all starts in the brain__it's a brain-function/mindset issue, sometimes coupled with 'emotional attatchment' syndromes. I should know, I have that 'problem'. It's not about focusing on the physical clutter as much as it's retraining the brain__discovering the reasoning behind the cluttering is one of the most important things to address. For clarity, someone who feels the 'need' for their home to 'look like no one lives there' has their own 'emotional challenges' to deal with, and shouldn't 'expect' their partner to adhere to their requests in order to appease their own personal discomforts. There's a YT channel where a woman (can't recall her name) defines 4 distinct types of "clutter bugs"__one type has to have everything put away neatly behind closed doors, while another has to see their 'stuff' or else it's 'out of sight, out of mind', etc.! You can probably find out what type you are by searching "which clutterbug are you?" on YT__it's pretty interesting! As a last note, it's similar to understanding that an alcoholic will always be an alcoholic, whether they actively drink or not__unless the emotions and mindset are dealt with. Hope this is helpful. 🙏😇✨💫🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺

My solution and cure for paper clutter is as soon as I receive my mail or paper from wherever I check it over and then I Shred whatever is garbage which most of it is. A paper shredder is better than sliced bread. It's a God send, lol. It is for me. Then I just take it to my recycle area and it's gone.

When i was in the events industry before covid happen, my papers that were involved were mainly art brochures/ festival booklets / key maps of the locations / and the essential guide to managing the event - from start to finish, i am no longer part of the events industry so decluttering brochures and past event notes were a thing in the past for me / but i used to keep them in files that they turned brown, i had a project for a news article during my days in the college - and after leaving it in the table drawer, it became mouldy, i kept it over the years cause it was the first writing that i did which involves some form of recognition, i cant deal with paper clutter so i am always organising in files - so i spend on beautiful files for storage of redundant paper - nowadays i just keep the certificates / and things that i can reference using my past event notes - it took time to filter whats important but i cant deal with too much paper - so my table is rather neat with 2 dividers with files of just the important notes. but i honestly think the events industry used the most number of trees to print booklets/ tickets/ and etc even as an educator now, i just use google docs for powerpoint/ key informations. It helps me with lesser stress on piling up documents.

To save having a shredder I put wads of documents into a bowl of water and after a few days when it's nice and soft tear it up into pieces - like paper mache. It's satisfying ripping up the pages too.

This has been difficult for me, especially when I’ve undergone credentialing processes several times with work, where I actually need to find papers that I probably should’ve shredded years ago. I wish I had a practice of putting things on a hard drive years ago.

The only paper documents I keep are my diplomas, report cards and certain documents that require me to keep as a physical copy. The rest are digital, and I requested those to be digital. I do have some books left after decluttering, but I wanted to keep them, and the rest I donated the rest(300 books) to the local library for other people to enjoy

best practice for my paper clutter: check incoming paper immediately (if you can't, make an inbox) and sort directly in three categories. 1) to keep, gtd right away or set a date for dealing with it, keep it in a safe place you can easily access like a folder or a box, a file system, scan when useful and when you do not have to keep the original, you may put important documents in a water and fireproof box. 2) to hold for a certain time, temporarily needed, keep it in a separate place, a file, a folder, put a date of "expiry" on it, set a monthly date for going through and trash "expired" paper 3) to trash right away, destroy it when sensitive data is on it

I second this. I have 2 old laptops, they crashed with virus stuff, but I can't just put them into my city's electronics recycling bin, right? Wouldn't that be nuts (safety)? I'm considering going to a small computer shop I trust and paying them to make these "throw away save" - if that is even a thing... I have no clue. ❓

I being following your channel and I noticed that my email was full with emails from 2018 to 2023 with emails that are archive. If it wasn’t for this channel, I will still be accumulating all those emails that they don’t need to be in the file. It takes time to delete and unsubscribe to a bunch of emails that I never subscribe. How do I stop all the junk emails is there an, easy way. 🤷♀️.
@debracisneroshhp2827 Жыл бұрын
@martamorto33, I'm guessing the one and only way to eliminate receiving spam/junk mail is to subscribe to a 'private' email service. When I first set up an internet account with AT&T years ago, I NEVER received junk mail. Once they merged with Yahoo that was the end of that! And, of course, these days, with all the '3rd party piggybacking' to emails you sign up for, you can never really get away from junk mail anymore__it's disgusting! 😒

Saying you need the house to be orderly when you come home sounds very 1950s. That line of request would not work with me. It sounded very judgmental and is not the way to enlist cooperation. Just food for thought. I’d like to know is anyone tries that and it backfires. Jan
