There it is. THAT'S why I cringe every time I see comment use that quote but I agree with Karen. "Favourite" is such a vague term that varies from person to person that trying to use the quote to admonish any use of a meta mon is foolishness. Are you really going to tell people they can't like Incin, the VGC king and far more importantly, many people's starter through Alola just because it's meta but sing praises about Pachurisu when Se Jun Park has stated it wasn't his favourite, it was the best fit for his team and strat at the time and became his favourite?
@Kuronosa6 ай бұрын
@nousername191 The talk around Pachirisu and that event with Se Jun Park is that, regardless of what the man himself says, people will always see the little electric squirrel and go "Look, he took a bad Pokémon and made it win a World Championship, even using it in his finals battles." And then every VGC player or KZbin video that goes over the fights proceeds to tell the proper reason as to why it was chosen. I mean, sure, I'd love to win a World Championship with Audino, my favorite Pokémon, but the meta is so hostile to Pokémon like it that an Audino winning worlds is never gonna happen.

I have a friend whose favorite mon is Wooper. His nuzlockes (which he does as randomizers) always include what he calls the "Wooper clause": if he runs into a wild Wooper, he *must* catch it, even if it's not the first encounter of the route. But, once he catches it, it *stays* on his team permanently, and if it dies, the run is over, even if the rest of his team survives. He has embraced his favorite, and has woven it into his runs. (This friend also has a similar clause for shinies. The first shiny he runs into during a run gets a specific nickname calling back to one of his OCs, and if that mon dies than the run is over. The difference being that the shiny in question *is* allowed to be boxed.)

Realistically all you'd have to account for to make the stats properly valid would be missed crits, but _not critting_ is a 23/24 chance and at that point it's not like it would alter the final number at all.

How I like to see the quote from a competitive perspective is not to use your favourite Pokémon in terms of looks, but in terms of how they play. Most people will like what works best, but if you enjoy playing against the odds, or enjoy gimmicky strategies, then that’s what you should play.

I love how Jan has really honed his craft with these scripts, and has really improved on the story telling aspect of these nuzlocke recaps. Looking forward to watching him get better and better!

I got to give your writer and editor big props! If i could watch ads like the NORDVPN one spliced into videos but both the ad and the video being content I don't think I'd ever feel the need to skip an ad again!

The thing about Claire's quote is that the world it's said in is NOT pokemon Run and Bun. It's pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. In the universe it's said in it makes perfect sense and is entirely valid. You've just left that world.

Actual masterpiece of a video. if this is what we're to expect after this revamp, I am very excited

I think what Karen's trying to get across is less "your favorites can be viable if you try hard enough" and more "this game's a lot more interesting when people bring themselves to the table."

"winning with your favorites" sounds like it could be a fun (and unique to each player) challenge in itself tbh

No, I can assure you that Karen was talking out of her ass with that one. They even put a guy in ORAS's Battle Resort to tell the player that she was wrong

When you surround yourself in the sphere of hardcore/competitive gameplay, of course Karen seems to be that way but one has to remember, the casual runs of Pokemon games pretty much predicate on this fact. The first time anyone plays a Pokemon game casually, they assuredly got to the E4 with a team of favorite Pokemon, not a carefully selected comp meta team to curbstomp them and the Champion. If the person loses, they don't sulk off and then go get a competitive team- they just try again and again. Sometimes grind if they need to. "Optimization" isn't something a majority of players will *ever* do. Also, Nuzlocke's in the og sense basically predicate on this too. What starts out as a team of random chance becomes your favs for that specific run, if it gets there. The hardcore, min-maxxing side of Nuzlockes is a very very recent phenom.

Well God damn. I clicked this video curious about the thumbnail cause I saw Hawlucha and Toxicroak. I left this video hearing the story of three heroes and getting a glimps into how intense Nuzlockes can be and the inner workings of Nuzlockes. This was an amazing video
