I found your channel after discovering the GT Street Performer and I was seeking review videos on that bike because I was considering buying one. What brought me to wanting to buy one was another bike I just bought, a Thruster 79 Special. You might not have heard of the brand since they were more of an east coast thing back in the late 70's/early 80's. Anyway, the brand is now owned by Kent who makes a lot of the bikes for Walmart. The 79 Special is a 29 inch big BMX with gears and is very clearly a cheap copy of the SE Fast Ripper. Walmart is currently selling them for $259, so I bought one. I went ahead and ordered the GT, so I am excited about that. I am 6'1", so I think it will fit me better with its long head tube and taller bars. City Grounds has the blue and green one for $499. That is a fantastic price on that bike so I’m stoked you got one! Yeah we kinda remember maybe one or two kids back in the day who had Thrusters but it wasn’t a very known brand like Mongoose or GT. @@cruisinginthe808 I have a video on my channel about my initial impressions of the 79 Special. It's a decent bike once you get it setup properly. There were a couple of issues I had to sort out. It rides very smooth and feels solid. I ran into a guy riding a SE Killer Quad down my street the other day and he was digging it. He was shocked when I told him the cost. I don't think anybody would be disappointed with what you get for $259.

Narrow wide on any single speed is just going to make it louder. Narrow wide is for clutched derailleurs like SRAM Eagle.

You need to look in and do a chain video chains come in two sides as 1/8 and 3/32 also that bike needs a blue seat

CROMOLY all the way! Titanium is out of the question unless you're planning on spending $7K and going all the way. If so, it WILL be strong and light. Good brakes, front as well as rear. Shop for a seat that fits "you". Double wall rims are a must, and maybe 48 spoke rims for rigidity.

That is a good question. Like John said, chromoly steel would be the strongest for sure and not break the bank. I’d go for maybe a 29” bike that is bigger. You could also put on some bigger tires like 2.7s. The Monster Quad comes to mind but the frames might be aluminum on the big SE bikes. Any chance you have a local bike shop near you to talk to and maybe see some bikes in person? I love that you’re wanting to get on a bike again. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!! 🤙🏼

No one’s confused here bud, I’ve called them sprockets myself from back in the day. But it’s also referred to a chainring as well.

Chainring being too fat is designed for 1/8" singlespeed chains. Geared type chains run narrow and will hang on the teeth of the chainring. Narrow/wide chainrings were designed for 1x geared systems in order to eliminate chain drop. Not a big deal to swap out a chainring and be in the groove. On another note, the bike is a street punk as well as street performer!! Jus' sayin'!!! My bike is a punkass... Bikes are spoiled rotten. We shower them with gifts routinely!! Whyya think bikes love us??
