They’re a great deal, huh? I’ve had mine setup now for a year now on a 2011 Mac Pro, I upgraded it with a ton of RAM, two 1tb SSD’s dual booting MacOS and Windows 10 with two six core CPU’s (total of 12 cores) and some video card that works with Mac’s, I forgot what kind but a decent card that’s been flashed to work on a Mac Pro. Looks and works amazing! 😎 edit- You can see it here, my cat didn’t want me putting Windows on it, LOL: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqfXnap7jtBgbsk

Pye Ltd. I can see... it does look very thick, when first turned on, that’s when it looks like something from 2010, the wallpaper on the monitor in the thumbnail does show an iMac Pro’s wallpaper, and that’s when I considered it futuristic, apple hasn’t been changing their iMac designs and I’ve only been on the internet for about 2 or 3 years.

I bought one retail from the local Apple Store back when my previous display died. I have no issues with a whine in the power supply. I have used it for fine color correction, as well as digital darkroom and design work, using Final Cut Pro, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Powering it is my Mac Pro 4,1 dual quad-core Intel Nehalem. I do intend to upgrade graphics and boot drive. I’m a little worried about upgrading the CPUs to dual 6-core.

Coil whine as you increase the brightness above 50%? That sounds ideal for me, as all the monitors in my house whine if you put them anywhere below 100%.

you should have got the thunderbolt display instead of the cinema display :( I'm still rocking my duel thunderbolt monitors connected to my MacBook pro with external mouse and keyboard... and nothing beats them! Been waiting for a refresh for years. Every year more rumors of monitors, every year nothing is announced and every year I'm more and more impressed with just how well these guys hold up build wise and still are better than what any other modern monitor companies are putting out there.

Welcome to the Cinema Display family! I feel that people don't understand that buying a vintage apple product is like buying an old British sports car. Its not always about being practical or sensible Its a whole design ethos being completed as a unit, Mac Pro + Cinema Display, the way Apple intended for the whole "pro" workstation experience to be like 8 years ago. Whats awesome is that it still works, still looks classy AF, and surprisingly holds its value. Congrats!

@@HughJeffreys well I just now hooked the monitor up to my iMac (i don't have the mini yet) and did notice that I couldn't control the lightning display brightness so I went to the App Store and downloaded a program to adjust the brightness and it made an amazing difference, what a monitor!!! I'm so happy. Also noticed that both cords coming from the back of the lightning display look as good as brand new, and I've noticed a lot of the ones on sale on eBay are frayed and dirty so this monitor has rarely been used. I got it from somebody who cleared out of a storage room and found it, so It may have been used very little in the last 10 years.

A 27" LED Cinema Display is cheaper by a few hundred. I picked up a Thunderbolt Display a week ago for $150 dollarydoos but that was an absolute steal. They usually go for $700-800AUD while a 27" LED Cinema Display is usually $500-600. So it really depends on how much you value ethernet, FireWire and TB passthrough ports. Both displays only have USB 2.0
