The Viennese audiences took him to their hearts like no other tenor .When he finally retired they presented him.with a gold ring -I believe a unique gesture His amazing ringing top D was and remains matchless.as does his lively phrasing .

Unbelievable, I have known him for a long time, but when I hear this singing, I am always again overwhelmed.

What a brilliant, splendid Tenor who knew the "Art of Singing" and demonstrates this in "every" note. No covered Tones-just pure ringing, brilliant tones with gossamer pianissimo.

This is what strikes me as well! Really inspiring to hear singers who don't need to mess with facial postures, and can lean entirely on their breath.

The Flower Song from Carmen is played at the wrong speed-about 1/2 step high.

Much like his voice and this is a signature piece...I'd be happy if this was the common "voice" of tenors. However, I think I still lean toward Wunderlich in mind of the German-ish style of singing.

In these days opera was sung in the language spoken in the country where the opera house was located. In Italy Wagner was sung in italian.
