We had a wood burning stove when I was growing up and I would 💯 % brick all the way up! After a few good uses you will be thankful. We had a lovely corner wood burner, and I was a slave to the painted wall in behind it trying to keep it looking clean. Over time the wall got discolored from the particles of soot that escaped from the firebox when adding wood to the fire. I agree with Solo, that bricking it to the ceiling is a good idea.

I had the exact same problem! No way you will be able to keep that back wall clean no matter what you do! There is always a certain amount of soot and dirt that comes from a fireplace and even though it may pass inspection from a safety perspective you will hate the look when it becomes discoloured.

My grandparents put in a wood stove with a partial brick wall. The rest of the wall was paneling. My gma often commented she wished they had put brick all the way up. My uncle and aunt live there now, and one of their first projects was bricking the rest of the wall.

Sorry about your accidents 😢 My dad who has stage IV pancreatic cancer just fell a couple weeks ago and hit his head when my mom was out grocery shopping. He was in the hospital a few days with that as well. I'm glad to see from Instagram that it seems the wedding went well. Can't wait to hear more about it. When we built out house we bricked the walls behind the wood stove, it radiates the heat better than the sheetrock and look so good. Our builder promised we wouldn't regret the decision and 20 years later he is wright it works so well and is a focal point in the room. We love it.

When we built in 2017 we had a wood stove in the corner with NO brick or mantle. We had zero issues with soot or anything from the wood stove on the walls. However, we decided a few years later we thought it looked too plain! So we added rock and a mantle so we had an area to decorate and hang stockings LOL! We were so glad we did and wished we had sooner!!!

Prayers for Grandma! My 81 year mother old fell in May and broke her femur in her thigh and her tibia in her calf, face planted and Bruised her e tire face, dislocated her shoulder. She is still not healed! It’s so hard when they go through all that :( praying all comes together and the wedding went off without a hitch! Can’t wait to hear all about it.

We have a same corner wood stove and it is bricked up to ceiling/ And YES it gets dirty even with the brick!! But you cant see it because it’s brick and not white wall. Which the walls next to the brick are a cream and sorry to say that does get dirty too. Wood stove heat is messy with the ash. But I absolutely love the wood heat and it saves so much on our gas bill. So I put up with the soot. Go with the brick!!

Papa’s right. Brick! I would also add another row or two of brick around the hearth to balance the size of the floor area with the wall height. You can always put a basket there with blankets in it. (😂) So glad Grandma is doing better. ❤️Also Judah and Katie’s anniversary will be one day after mine. I was 18 and my husband was 19 and we have been married 49 years now. ❤

Oh, Sarah sometimes you have to laugh at what is going on so you don't cry. It is as the saying goes, when it rains it pours. Thankfully, Grandma is doing better, "Son" got glass out of arm and was able to be stitched up. Hopefully Luca is not allergic to wasp bites. Right now this is all stressful, but when you watch these videos back at a later date, you will be able to laugh. Also, thank goodness for Papa helping you guys design and pick out everything in the new house . What ever would you have done 😉
