Maybe he did see something other than Thanos: the Emergence. By allowing half of humanity to be dusted and then bringing them back 5 years later, it delayed the emergence and allowed the Eternals to see why Earth should be spared, which then saves Earth from total destruction.

I think it’s true. In Agents of Shield, a show about the guy that loki killed in the battle of New York (phil coulson) changes the timeline of the MCU by stopping Glenn Talbot, a super powered, mentally unstable general, from destroying the earth. It is also revealed that Talbot defeated thanos in a good amount of alternate timelines, but in the MCU timeline this was stopped. He may have been the threat that Strange saw.

Yeah the future of the MCU would've been darker if they didn't stop Talbot. The survivors of Earth being enslaved by the Kree with no one to stand up for them. Also Thanos still would have all 6 Infinity Stone cause once Earth died the Mind & Time Stones would just be left floating in Space. So in that logic, Shield saved the World from being destroyed so that the later Events of Infinity War could happen. (The fight in Wakanda specifically) Cause at the end of the episode it ends right before Thanos Snaps his fingers.

I’ve always thought it was because of Iron Man. He was the one who saved everybody. In the comics, Thanos grabs him and tears him apart. Thanos held Tony in a specific way before getting hit by Stormbreaker (I think). The only reason they won was because Tony wasn’t torn apart. But maybe I’m wrong.
