When the people in charge of the VAR are also as incompetent as the ref, this is the result. The standard of officiating in the “best league in the world” is a disgrace and won’t change until the FA step in, fire Mike Riley & completely overhaul the referee profession.

Yh the ‘VAR’ itself always gets criticized but it’s the refs behind it and lately the officials have been pointed at as the issues we have in the league yet the FA do not help deal with this, look at international tournaments and how well they’ve used var

@@ctrlaltdeligt I agree completely. VAR is just a tool, and a good one at that. The problem lies in the way it's being used. There have been bad guidelines for the refs using it(look at last season's PL) and even when the guidelines are decent the refs still muck it up somehow. I really don't understand how they can get things so wrong so often with a tool this powerful. VAR technology could definitely be improved but it doesn't excuse the fact that the refs miss or intentionally ignore what everyone else sees.

I'm not a pool city or Everton fan.... I literally have no horse in this race. I've criticised our refs a lot but always defended them against corruption allegations. Today for the first time I felt myself questioning their impartiality. that decision is so blatant so obvious that it beggers belief. I cannot believe that multiple refs in that VAR box honestly thought that wasn't a pen as a genuine mistake. its so bad so so bad that it warrants an investigation. either those refs are so incompetent that they shouldn't be working at prem level or serious corruption is at play. either way there has to be consequences for this

Chris Kavanagh literally lives approximately 13 mins from Eitihad Stadium, his brother is a Man City season ticket holder and when Kavanagh is the VAR offical and working with Paul Tierney(another resident of Manchester) the most suspect decisions are made. Remember these are the same 2 refs that officiated the Tottenham vs Liverpool game and denied Jota an obvious pen and failed to give Harry Kane a red. How can there not be a conflict of interest, does the F.A do background checks at all? Corrupt to the core!

I accepted it the day sterling was called offsides on his winning goal in 2013 at the Etihad when he still played for lfc...he was 4 or maybe 5yds onside...not even remotely a close call.. This handball is deff match fixing and or worse bcuz they have replays unlike in 2013 but a player 5yds onside is impossible from the naked eye to call offsides... The defender is so far away from him playing him on when he receives the ball it's impossible to think he's offsides, had it not been a goal but just a simple pass that ref wouldn't of raised his flag, I knew from that day on something was suspect in the epl.

“Could have won” I suppose anything can happen but they had less than 0.5 expected goals and 0 shots on target in the 2nd half. City by contrast had over 2 expected goals and had 9 shots on target in the 2nd half. It was a bad decision but Richarlison looked offside anyway. Rodri intentionally moves his hand towards the ball. That's a yellow card and penalty. The claims of offside are lies. The VAR decision read "No penalty. No handball by Rodri". It never mentioned anything about handball and they never showed the replay. I rewatched the footage and there was no offside lines (red or blue or green) or anything. Just 1 white line and he looked onside. At Arsenal, Bernardo threw himself bc he felt a touch on the shirt and knew he couldn't get to the ball. And the red card??? This is not how you win the league.

I don't know how any official can miss that handball or interpret it as anything other than a deliberate handball. He put his arm out at an angle perpendicular to his direction of run so you can't argue that the momentum of his body movement puts his arm in that position away from his ball which brings it into contact with the ball. He made up in his mind to stick his arm out to intercept the ball and help him bring it under his control. Deliberate handball, night and day, 24/7. No other decision is possible.

They're unbeaten on their last 6 after all the new signings. Everton didn't even play too badly considering half their starting XI was out. The point against City definitely matters, it's a huge confidence boost to get a result against the defending champions and they would have fully deserved it. Nobody's crying, it was a clear penalty not given only because of sheer incompetence if not worse.

Actually it’s weighed in favour of city mostly I mean I’m a spurs fan but even I admit city shouldn’t of been awarded the penalty that helped them win at the emirates and just recently against Tottenham they just a dodgy penalty given to them, had a perfectly good spurs goal ruled out, the fourth or third officials face after spurs scored the winner looked very suspicious almost as if he was not happy as someone who’s meant to be neutral that’s a very suspicious sign and also the referee let the game go until the 99th minute in order to try to help city to equalise so many dodgy decisions that game I can honestly say before the game I thought we would definitely lose but after the game I felt genuinely lucky we won not because we were the worse team but because the officials were completely against us it’s a miracle we managed to beat city while the referees were quite obviously supporting and helping city all game
