The dad is no slouch either. Kind, gentle and present. These two parents have an emotional IQ through the roof. I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Amazing upload.

Aislynn is trying to smile. She's holding eye contact. And she's listening. Without a doubt she would know her mom, dad and sister by their voices, non-verbal cues, smells feel. She's not brain dead; she's just working at a lower capacity. Such a terrible diagnose to have but there is hope. The mom was right about neuroplasticity especially relevant in children. I hope they get help with Aislynn's ongoing needs and therapy. It's good they're mindful of their own needs. The sister is a sweetheart. Blessings from afar.

Wow, it's not common to see two parents with such a high level of emotional intelligence and maturity. Just the fact that they could open up and speak freely about the negative emotions they face (and, let's be real, we all face as parents of special needs children or as a person with special needs themself) shows how secure and grounded they are. Sending them hugs from Argentina!

My son that's in my profile picture has Severe Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. They said he would never walk, talk, or smile. My wife had Uterine rupture at birth and he was out of her uterus with no cord attached for around 40 minutes. So all that time with no oxygen. He had to be brought back, and thats when they told us he'd never walk, talk or smile. He would be a newborn development for life and had a 60 percent chance of passing before the age of 2. He is doing SO well for his level of injury.

She's so pretty. She's IN THERE ! I'm not a Dr. but anyone who has a eye's & a soul can see that this little girl IS in there ! You can see that she's responding. You can see that she's doing everything that she can to focus and communicate, even to the point of mouthing word's that won't come out. I Believe that with massive, intensive non stop therapy there will come a time when you tell people her story & how she was so ill at 1 point in her life she almost died, people won't believe you ! Best of Luck. May God watch over & provide for you Always.

there's something really heartbreaking and also really beautiful about that answer near the tail end about how much aislynn understands; you want to know that she knows how loved she is and what's going on, but you can't know, and you can't assume either, and you love regardless

I have a nephew who is blind, nonverbal and has no voluntary movement. He can’t communicate at all. But I’ve always believed he has learned to understand what people are saying, to some extent. He’s 25 and everyone talks to him. There’s no way to KNOW but that’s all the more reason to keep talking and being there for him.

Absolutely. Ultimately, that unconditional love you should have as a parent is what matters. It's not about whether or not your child has the ability to truly "recognize" you as their parent. She knows that's her baby, and that's all the reason needed to give Aislynn all the love and care she deserves. She seems like a wonderful woman, and her family is lucky to have her!
@UsagiPonPon

I know you can’t be sure, Aislynn probably doesn’t recognizes her as her mom (or maybe yes! Who knows), but what makes me feel sure about, while watching her interact, is that she can difference between people, she know who is this amazing woman that’s always by her side comforting her, and that to me is like her definition of mom. It’s a little bit like dementia, people forget their loved ones but there is something a pattern, emotions, sounds, smells that deep down makes you never forget completely. There is always a print we leave on people, it can be perceived differently but it is there.

I have a nephew who at 25 has far less function than this, owing to a premature birth, birth defects and a birth injury. His parents have been and will always be completely devoted to his happiness and wellbeing . He’s been a part of every family outing, get together, vacation, trips to the store, going out to parks and gardens. SBSK has resonated with me over the years because it resonates so much with what I’ve seen demonstrated in my nephew’s life. For example I always assume he can understand me (he can hear but not speak or communicate otherwise, no voluntary movement) and just talk to him like anyone. And talk TO him not about him. The main thing you can get out of him is knowing when he’s happy (parents around, music playing, people singing) and when he’s upset (lonely or uncomfortable). And I think just trying to maintain that happy face, his happy (though blind) eyes, is enough.

How heartbreaking. As a type 1 diabetic I have had my blood sugar drop while sleeping and while it usually wakes me up, it is a horrible feeling. One time it dropped so low that if I hadn't had my family around and had emergency glucose pens, I would have died because all I could do was scream for help. Couldn't even sit up. I can't imagine that as a little baby and unable to know or verbally express what's happening or how you feel. It must have been such a shock having a normal day go to the polar opposite. You can tell her parents really love and care for her. ❤

I have worked with people who are in comas. I spent lots of time at night. And I’d do range of motion. I’d read her cards people sent to her. I’d sing ask her questions. Then one day I’d volunteer for a double and was helping people eat. I chatted away and Alma would slowly turn toward my voice as someone who is catatonic . When our eyes met she’d turn away. But as she heard me talk she’d slowly turn to the sound of my voice. It shocked me that my talking should affect her so. So I am sure that you daughter recognizes her family especially her mother. She imprinted on your voice before she was born and that can’t be taken away, of that I am sure! ❤❤❤ thanks! Such a lovely story. I hope you have many children!

This family is cool AF. I love the mom and dad's parenting style, laughter, smiles, and natural (not forced) positivity. Your kids will become well adjusted adults if you keep the positive and encouraging vibes coming their way. Also, mom, huge ups at 21:39 when you share you simply want them to be happy. That is a great goal, and its a goal I have built my life around as someone who is differently able and has a rare medical condition that is not clearly defined or with a clear treatment pathway. I hope you read this because I am inspired by your grateful attitude and the positive environment you purposefully choose to create for your kids. We need parents like you and humans like you, as life is sometimes unpredictable and many situations are outside of our control. We have to proceed living a good life even as we encounter challenges and extend ourselves and others grace when a typical goal for other people is outside of our (or others') capability. I cannot always walk, so if I cannot because of my body and a physical limitation, I roll. I see that you all "get" this in a very real way and celebrate the little wins with your girls - which is 💯 they way to live well and happily. Celebrate every success 🙌 🎉. Wishing this family all of the best in the future.

Aislynn is such a sweetie, I want to give her the biggest hug. Wish I could be friends with this whole family, they are incredible. I didn’t start crying until sister started talking. Her desire to comfort Aislynn is so beautiful. I’m so glad the parents are prioritizing their mental health. Big love to this family ❤

What an amazing family! ❤ There are many ways in which children can recognise their mom. It's not only on a neurological level. They have a deep imprint and cellular memory. I wouldn't worry about that mom. I'm 100% sure that your girl knows who you are 😊
